OMG it's the lost Silmaril. The one that Morgoth did not find. Ye Gods! What will this do to Legolas? No, she cannot let Aragorn have it. Ai, congratulations. Now I'm in a tizzy about this story. *Must read*. I hope you have some sort of lawyer???

At last, a chapter. Two actually. But what have you done? Bryn! You killed off the kid! No!!!!!

Okay, well, I suppose you had your reasons. Bummer though. I liked the kid.

Gosh this(these) chapter(s) moved quickly. I almost had trouble following everything that happened, and for a minute there I was wondering why the pirates didn't just take the Silmaril from Legolas. But then they did, so I was appeased. And then I began to wonder why Legolas didn't fight harder. But he did, and again I was appeased. But then the Mortsdil quelled his spirit somehow, and I grew totally confused. What did he say that stopped Legolas from struggling? Was it something about Gimli? Where is Gimli? Still being keel-hauled? Can he survive that? And is the death of Bergil meant as a sacrifice to Morgoth? Is Legolas being handed over already? But what about Gimli? Shouldn't someone be doing something about Gimli? Who's going to rescue Gimli? Or Legolas even? Morgoth is not such an easy contender you see.

Okay, Bryn, I know you are eager to get on with your other stuff, but you can't just leave us hanging there like that. You are going to provide more soon, aren't you? Aren't you?

Nooo! Not Bergil! How could you let him end like that!

But even a King was not capable of dismissing Death.

That was heartbreaking, really!

But, though I'd rather see Bergil return to Minas Tirith his former light-hearted self, I can understand that things like his death are sometimes a necessary part of a story, painful as it is. For Aragorn, Bergil's death must evoke dark memories of Halbarad's untimely passing, especially since Bergil reminded him so much of his former friend. Which makes it all the more painful. Furthermore, I cannot get quite rid of the feeling, that Bergil's blood served to 'feed' Mortsdil, or rather Morgoth through him. And the prospect that the good guys face are rather grim: Gimli is, as far as I remember, being keel-hauled, Legolas is taken captive, I doubt that Aragorn and Bitaliel are free to leave that cursed beach other than in Mortsdil's company, and, worst of all, Mortsdil has the Silmaril.

Your depiction of Gimli truly moved me. What a warrior is the short son of Mahal! I love when writers invest Gimli with the dignity and pride he deserves. His friendship with the elf is one of my favorite aspects of the book.

The description of Legolas in the literal grasp of the sea was fascinating. Well done!

I shall now go re-read the "Ents of Wrath" to cheer up. (A friend and I have started to refer people to that story for "depression therapy". I giggle whenever I think about it.)

"But even a King was not capable of dismissing Death."

You have killed Bergil. I am in awe. Methinks, you will hear about this one, Bryn. The only braver thing I have read is someone who killed off Frodo. (For my birthday, she is going to off Bilbo! Shhh! Never liked Bilbo. Bothered my liege and caused me headaches.) Seriously, the scene was effectively written. I knew I was in deep trouble by just the simple allusion to the look of horror in Legolas' eyes. Aragorn's fear was also quite effective. And, I think Bergil just might have mused about how odd people's faces looked while they were in the throes of death. Chilling. BTW, I could find you a safe house to hide in if the need arises!

Forgot to ask in Cantrip review--Would you send me the E/Gilraen by email? Thanks.

Oh noooooooooooooooooooo. How could you do this! I don't mind (so much) if someone kills off one of the remaining Fellowship, they usually come back, don't they? But Bergil? He was such a wonderful character. *sniff*

Does he perhaps come back?

My mouth is open in shock and tears fill my eyes.

HOW IN GODS GREEN EARTH COULD YOU KILL BERGIL?!!!!

Although, it tisn't God's green earth, it's Middle earth. But I'm still crying. :-(

:'(

*sniff* I guess you can update soon...

Actually, please do update soon. :-) I'm going to go read "Cantrip" I need a pick-me-up after this.

Well written except for the sadness. (I really am crying, BTW. And I am rarely moved to such emotion in reading.)

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHLRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You killed him! That was entirely uncalled for! *considers* Actually, in the story it might have been unavoidable, but that does not excuse you in the least! Is that understood? You will have to make up for that by updating fast! For the rest of this story!

MirielReviewed Chapter: 17 on 1/7/2004
I just checked this to see if you have updated it, and low and behold, you had. I had forgotten the SoA does not tell you when a chapter is updated, just when it is new. Grr...

Anyway, I'm not sure what to say. It's interesting that you have the whole gang together again (except Gimli). I want to read more about Bergil and Belatiel, and I do hope that Mortsdil doesn't kill Legolas.

Please update soon! (Especially since you have the next chapter written!) :-)

Cheers!

Author Reply: Miriel- I think I ought to get extra points for updating so soon. *sighs miserably* Don't worry, Mortsdil doesn't kill Legolas. I'm only stretching canon, so if Tolkien specifically said they lived, then they get to live. Thank you for the review! :)

10 minutes ago my mantra was "Bryn is back, Bryn is back, Bryn is back", now it is once again "No character death, no character death, please, no character death" and "I hate cliffhangers, I hate cliffhangers, I HATE CLIFFHANGERS". It seems you're not only back, you're your old self again and I don't have to pester you any longer for updates. Well, Thundera Tiger, it's your turn then.

Author Reply: Imrahoil- Hooray for speedy updates! Character death... yes, well, if it makes you feel any better, I've gone and made myself absolutely miserable. I didn't want to do it, but it was part of the tale. *sigh* I promise to never kill off said character again. Yeah, it IS time for a Thundera update!! Must go pester her... ;) Thank you for the review!!
