Not Gonna Happens  by Larner 235 Review(s)
Kaylee ArafinwielReviewed Chapter: 10 on 6/14/2023
It's been a little while since I've reviewed this one, and not on my accustomed day, either! Sorry to throw things off so, Larner. I do hope you're well, and making it through all right! Things have been weird these past few years, haven't they? Weirder than the sight our astronaut friends saw through the telescopes, even. But I do like coming back to them and sharing in their amazement now and again, even when it's not January.

This piece inspired me to do an art piece for "Scribbles and Drabbles". I'm not sure if it's permitted for that, since it's technically a fanwork of a fanwork, so I'm waiting to hear back, but even if I can't use it for S&D I'd like to post it for you. Do you use Archive of our Own, so I can gift it to you there?

Hi Larner,
Will you please accept a thank you rather humbly offered eleven years late?
I am happily spending my lunch breaks perusing ypur fine tales and came across the dedication. I went to look at what I said to you at the time and, embarrassingly, don't find my name among the reviewers. I don't know whether I responded to you privately at the time but, "better late than never".
Thank you for a tale to make me smile when I am feeling very tired.

"Always this way, the third of January!"

And I always come back to this tale on the third of January. I've recced it to others as well :) Ah, I do so adore "Transformation"!

Happy New Year, and Happy Birthday to the Professor!

Author Reply: Hi, Kayla. I missed this one, I see. Love knowing you still cams back to this one. The last few years have been stressful, and it takes so long to get things written any more. U

Oh, I do hope Lady Violet recovered! *chuckles* Goodness. I still haven't seen much of Downton Abbey - is it currently available on Netflix? I should make that my next watch, if I can. :)

To the Professor!

"Always this way, the third of January! Heh! And so it is. *toasts Larner, and the Professor, with my chocolate milk this morning* No vodka for me :)

Happy Birthday, Professor! And thank *you* Larner, for something so comforting and familiar that I can always return to on this day. I hope I find you well, and that you and your loved ones are as protected from the cold as possible. What a winter it's been! *looks at reports of snow in Florida in amazement*

May your 2018 be blessed!

Happy 2017, dear Larner, and a happy 125th birthday to the Professor! *toasts him with a glass of rather flat Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper, as it's leftover from the cinema yesterday* (I saw Rogue One...and then I had a weird dream last night that was like a crossover of Rogue One and this. Imagine if Tilion and the pilots of the other "vessels of crystal" got involved in the battle, perhaps led by Earendil...Yeah, my brain is definitely weird. :D )

May your days grow brighter, and may this year be much better than the last!

Kaylee

Author Reply: Oh, yes, a most auspicious day indeed! I was drinking the remains of my eggnog as I wrote this.

Haven't seen "Rogue One" yet, but time will tell. I got the new "Ben Hur," but let friends see it first, so won't get to see it myself until I return home at the beginning of the week.

I would so hope this year would be better than last year, but am uncertain what to expect with the coming change in administrations. At least my rib is healing, even if it is still hurting some with the cold weather.

A clever crossover of NCIS and LOTR! Loved the use of Landroval in the story; especially since you make him very real without Gibbs, or the reader, ever seeing him.

Author Reply: When I was challenged to do such a crossover I knew it had to include Gibbs; but I was stymied briefly as to how to get him into Middle Earth and the Northfarthing, until I spotted one of the eagles that nests down the road from my place soaring beyond the evergreens and alders on my western fenceline. So I determined not to let Gibbs actually see Landroval, which caused the Great Eagle a deal of amusement. Then I found myself borrowing Fiondil's Lullaby....

I love allowing my favorite worlds to touch briefly! Thanks!

They should have known not to leave Pippin alone! :) Clueless about the nun but love how he covered the sound of the stool and that he enjoyed himself so much.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: Sister Monica Joan is from "Call the Midwife," a BBC production. She was born in an aristocratic household, and was disinherited when she chose to serve as an Army nurse and then joined a convent community dedicated to midwifery. She adores sweets, and would have adored Bilbo's larders! Who better for Pippin to find there? Heh! Thanks so!

Hmmmmm. Someone from our world in Hobbiton. Very interesting indeed.

Author Reply: She would have adored Bilbo's larder, I suspect. Heh! Thanks, Tari, and hope you enjoyed it!

Larner, I was up until 1.00 a.m. yesterday morning and it is all your fault, I was binge watching Call the Midwife on Youtube to find out just who Sister Monica Joan was, you are so right, she and Pippen would have made an awesome team when it came to pillaging pantries!

What a delightful crossover.

There were a couple of nuns in the original story who were just as dotty as Monica Joan, they would have fit right in!

Lynda

Author Reply: Oh, I agree that Sister Monica Joan wasn't alone in being an eccentric in Mrs. Worth's original memoirs. I love both the real person and the BBC version. (I have the series in audio format, and listened to them while commuting to and from work. What a wonderful set of memories to have!)

And who better to appreciate a Hobbit's larder than Sister Monica Joan? Heh!
