New Year's Eve  by Thundera Tiger 14 Review(s)

An update! Woohooo!! And what an update - lost dwarves, threats with the gelding iron (I knew that would come back to ... bite someone, but I still managed to choke when I read it!) and above all else, "tralalalally"! Please know that my family are now assured of my insanity by the sudden thump and histerical giggling (yes, I nearly fell of my chair laughing) and my colleagues continue to give me disdainful looks for the more-than-occasional snicker or giggle. But it was worth it. Any chance you could pass on those extra verses? Please? Pretty Please?!?

All the best, and congratulations on yet another wonderful chapter
E.

Author Reply: Yes, the gelding iron is still there, and now we've got the Tra-la-la-lally song to worry about, too. There are a couple of other items floating around that will eventually be brought back, but those are two of the most obvious. My apologies to you and your family for the illusion of insanity, by the way. Those extra verses just might come back to haunt someone in the end, but you'll have to wait and see how. Rest assured that the song will be making another appearance, though.

He he, I had almost given up on this story, which I found some time ago in another site...I'm glad it is back. It's so fluid and full af amusing situations that I'm lucky I'm not at the office currently, or it might have had further consequences than spewing juice across the screen. Legolas secret weapon was deadly indeed! Oh my, it was so wicked to use those silly songs against them! better defeated than dishonoured! Any chance Legolas -or Bilbo- culd be bribed into disclosing the rest of the song?

And Elfhelm! oh my! I was roaring with the billowing cloak! He felt Bema himself! And the slow healer that could not catch his threat! oh my! it is priceless, seriously. Prsently everybody is on the move, and a great catastrophe seems to be looming! Poor Elessar. He has had better days than this one, I presume. In Mordor. Or chasing Gollum. or in south Harad. Wherever.

Go on, please, no matter how long it takes.

Author Reply: My apologies to your computer screen! Hope the juice didn't damage anything. ;) And I'm very glad you liked the appearance of the Tra-la-la-lally song. The rest of the song might be making an appearance later, but not in the immediate future. Still, it's something that will come back to haunt individuals. Kind of like the gelding iron. We're not finished with either of those things yet.

And I'm VERY glad you liked Elfhelm's entrance. That was actually my favorite part of the chapter. I thoroughly enjoyed pitting him against the hapless healer. MANY thanks for such a kind review.

The humour in this never ceases, but more than that, it's the fact that it's INTELLIGENT humour that keeps us reading.

Author Reply: *raises brow speculatively* If you say so. ;) Seriously, though, many thanks for the compliment! It's something I've tried to pair up alongside some rather obvious slapstick, and I'm never too sure of the result.

There was sometimes much comfort to be drawn from the incompetence of others. This made me laugh, partly because it's true and partly because it's so Gimli.

Elladan's bemusement when faced with a child's unpredictability was very amusing. The kid can choose to cooperate or not, and there's not much you can do about it! I loved the smelly cheese that Eldarion spits onto his uncle's shoulder. Man, it seemed like I spent years with throw up on the shoulders of my clothes. The baby daughter of one of my colleagues threw up on his new sport coat just before he was supposed to defend his dissertation. The coat had been bought for the occasion on a grad student's salary.

I also laughed when I got to that ridiculous song from The Hobbit. I recently listened to that book and the trilogy on CD and gained a new appreciation for all the songs in them. But that one will always sound silly. But what's been left out of the book? Come on! Tell! Other than that, the confrontation between Elladan and Legolas was very amusing. Elladan obviously thinks of himself as cool and reasonable compared to a Wood-elf of the House of Oropher.

Elfhelm is great. He is good at entrances, but he can't deal with three tense women. From his POV, that's a total mystery and he's not sure he wants to unravel it anyway. No good can come from that.

Author Reply: Ah, I'm glad you liked that line out of Gimli's section. It was one of my favorites, actually. I wasn't sure about including it in the end, but I liked it too much to let it go. As for Elladan, I had a blast writing his confusion about Eldarion. I've discovered that there are some people who are naturals with children despite the inherent confusion, and some who aren't. Poor Elladan is definitely in that latter category, but at least he's escaped now. As for what's been left out of the Tra-la-la-lally song, you'll have to wait and see. We're not finished with that song yet.
