Fields of Gold  by Levade 39 Review(s)

I admit I just laughed at Glorfindel suddenly having to face a few friends if he showed up again. What Glorfindel, a dragon? Another balrog or three? Sauron himself? And Glorfindel having to answer, 'an orc, I rode alone'. Yep, embarrassment works. Go twins!

I like your Erestor. I like his doubts but his trust in Elrond. And that he cares enough to make sure Elrond is well.

Author Reply: Namo would not be amused, I think. *g* But Ecthelion, Tuor and Eglamoth might laugh themselves sick. ;) "How many elves have died twice, Glorfindel..." Kind of mean, but guy humour?

I'm glad you enjoyed it, and thank you for reviewing!

Now, this is a good one! The twins imparting lessons in caution! It was great fun, really. No wonder Glorfindel wavered between amusement and outrage... but in the end, he taught them well it seems...

Author Reply: Heh...it is ironic, isn't it? Elrond might want to hear that for himself to believe it! Thank you for reading and reviewing, I appreciate it!

Another fine chapter. I wish the chapters were longer, but at least they seem somewhat frequent in the updates.

Keep up the good work.

Author Reply: Good point about the length of chapters -- I'll try to post longer ones from now on. Sorry for the delay on this, I was gone last week. Thank you so much for your review and for reading. I appreciate it!

I liked Erestor's doubts about the architecture of Imladris. I'd have been horrified it I'd been him. But as he says, you shouldn't underestimate Elrond.

I also like the idea of the twins lecturing Glorfindel on caution.

Author Reply: When I first saw the movie Imladris I remember thinking...but the bugs and cold air and snow! Beautiful, yes, but practical, no. I suppose if you're Elves and have Vilya you can do more than we can (I sure hope so!), but still I was surprised to see Frodo in an open-air room.

Underestimate Elrond? Nevah! *g* And yes, it is ironic to have the twins lecturing Glorfindel, or anyone, on caution. Elrond might find it amusing or just plain shocking.

Thank you for reading and reviewing, Daw!

I find myself wondering if rabies or similar conditions run among sea mammals as well as land ones. Sounds indeed as if the Enemy is being quite vindictive.

Author Reply: Mmmm...it's not rabies. That would be easier in the long run, and yes the enemy is hitting as hard as he can. Thank you for reading!

An interesting relationship between these two. I find I like it.

Author Reply: Thank you, I hope it keeps entertaining. :)

I like the comfortable relationship between these characters. Glorfindel is as comfortable in Arwen's dressing room as he is annoying Erestor as he is checking up on the twins and rangers.

I feel for Elrond, and understand the need to want some time to be alone, and not be hovered over. Glorfindel needs the break too, whether he knows it or not, for watching over all of these hurting people is very wearing on the soul. And I am looking forward to seeing what is happening in the ocean.

Author Reply: He just makes himself at home anywhere, doesn't he? I suppose once you lounged in Mandos' Halls a bit anywhere else feels comfy.

Both of them need a break, agreed. The sort of break Elrond truly needs Glorfindel would give anything to grant him, but that's far beyond him.

Thanks for reading!

A road trip for Glorfindel - a splendid idea. I can see where Elrond would just need to get rid of him to get some peace. As well-intentioned as Glorfindel is, Elrond put it perfectly - he just needs to not have to pretend he's all right for a little while. I love the idea of Glorfindel comfortably ensconed in Arwen's sitting room. wading through dressing strewn across the floor. His exchange with Arwen was so comfortable and mutually respectful - I like the idea that he has instructed her in combat and gives her the means to defend herself. On the other hand, his relationship with Erestor is hysterical! I loved Glorfindel parking his dirty boot on Erestor's carefully polished desk.

And what's up with the dying birds and seals? It's so nice to see Cirdan featured in a story, and Bronwe is intriguing. She seems to have some history with Glorfindel. Very captivating story; I'm looking forward to more.

Author Reply: Rooooad trip!! *pushes away images of modern'ish fancies that fill her mind* Erestor's Bane is Glorfindel, yet at the same time, they have a grudging sort of companionship that centers around Imladris and Elrond's family. I doubt either would willingly give it up and yet, they definitely trust the other implicitly (unless it's paperwork, then Erestor knows not to let Glorfindel near it).

And what's up with the dying birds and seals?
Something Bad. *nodnod*

I'm a huge fan of the Shipwright. It's nice to promote him whenever possible.

Thank you, Meckinock!

This was delightful in its warmth and humor. Elrond and Glorfindel's interaction is so easy and familiar, and Glorfindel is wonderfully crusty. I love his irritation with being the object of hero-worship, and his observation that dying is not all it's cracked up to be.

Author Reply: Thank you for reading! Life is rarely dull with Glorfindel around I suppose, though maybe someday I'll write him as a quiet fellow, content to just lounge about and drink tea and play with Ranger children. ;D

Hey Levade,
Really nice story you've got going. So Our Glori has a love life? I think you should send him some one to drive him crazy like he drives Elrond & Erestor mad. (LOL) All your characters have great personalities.

Update soon

Eliza

Author Reply: Hi Eliza,
Thank you! I'm glad you like the story so far. I don't know if Bronwe will drive him as crazy as he does the rest, but it's worth a try. ;) Thanks again for reading!
