Okay, NOW Panic!  by Boz4PM 15 Review(s)

Hi Boz,
I haven’t reviewed lately, but I’ve followed your story chapter by chapter. Particularly, the last two were very emotional and incredible realistic. Poor Penny, I feel so bad for her. It is true that she made a big, BIG mistake regarding Elrond, but they should understand too, that she is very young, with another education, from another world. Also, even if she is there, for her they are still characters from a book, we certainly believe that we know them and we can discuss about their lives as they were part of the family. It saddens me that her relationship with all the elves will change from this point; and that the memory that they will have of her will be tainted for this incident.
By the way, when the elves leave to Valinor, what a terrible imagines of the future of Arda they will take with them thanks to Penny. I mean, we all know that we live in a crazy world, but there is some good things, beautiful things too. It is true that I haven’t been in a war, but I had lived in a communist country and I know something about not having freedom, a life full of Dictators telling you what to think, what to read, what to wear, what to eat, where to go…etc, thanks God I live now in another country (USA), not perfect, crazy, but I least I like to believe that I’m in command of my life and can give to my daughter a better future, I’m so thankful to this country… Well, back to Penny, where is she going now? I think that her last option now will be Eriador, helping to rebuild the Kingdom of Arnor. She will be with the Dunadain at least. You know, I’m in favor of Halladan/Penny. About Halladan, in this part “Do you not? What are friends for if not to advise each other even if the other does not wish to hear it?” I assume that he is talking about her advice of looking for help. Is he reconsidering her advice?
Thanks again for this wonderful story, I really loved and I check EVERY day for updates. I’m getting obsessed, well that is what my husband says, but I don’t care. I was sick for two weeks and reading about Penny made my days easier. I started to read to my daughter some fanfics about ME, including your, of course. She is only ten months, but I’m sure that she will appreciate in the future, though my husband said that it just an excuse, and in that way I can read all my fanfics. (he is right).
Another thing, reading the fanfics has improved a lot my English. Another excuse for reading more and more...
Thanks,
Fantasia.

Author Reply: Thanks for taking time out to review, and I'm pleased you've enjoyed the last couple of chapters. :)

Your point about how we discuss these characters and their lives, how we feel we 'know' them is a fair one, I think, though equally I think Penny would have managed to work past that issue by now. It was certainly a major factor playing with her head in Don't Panic, though.

I don't think all the elves will know of this. What happened will be kept amongst those who witnessed it. It's possible that Elrond, Aragorn and Celeborn might tell Arwen and Galadriel what happened, possibly include Erestor and Glorfindel into their confidence as well, but even that is not certain. Even if they did, the fact that Penny and Elrond have made their peace will be enough for no one else to mention it - they will take their lead from Elrond and if he is behaving as normal with her then so will they.

Penny has spoken a little of her life and time with the elves. I have not had much opportunity to show it, though. There would have been a lot of that in the time that spanned between the two fics - Erestor has been learning English, don't forget, and language learning will inevitably lead to discuss on culture and society. Also Gandalf shows some understanding and knowledge of her world - even back in Don't Panic he was mentioning things that Penny had said to him. I also mentioned that in Lothlorien she spoke to Lindir quite a bit about her life and society. I will try and include a bit more of it, if I can, though - especially now she has to consider herself as staying forever, and trying to find a place for herself. She would probably feel easier talking about it more now she can think of it as something gone forever, not something that could come back to her at any moment.

I really enjoyed this chapter. I look foward to seeing what happens with Penny as she finally has to make her decision of where she will stay. I've been trying to figure out a way that she might stay with Halladan, but I'm not sure if that's possible. Anyway, I look forward to more chapters and enjoyed this one. The scene with Penny and Elrond was very well written. I think it kind of reminded us again that Penny's not from Middle Earth, because had she been, the thing with Elrond in the last chapter wouldn't have happened, because Penny would have had some training or education in etiquette that she's lacking because of her history. But at least they cleared the air to an extent. Thank you for continuing to write. I really enjoy this story and Penny's adventures.

Author Reply: Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed this chapter and the conversation with Elrond. Yes, Penny is not just a modern city lass, she's a mouthy modern city lass - as witnessed by her verbal tirades against Halbarad. She's matured a HUGE amount, but that ability to call a spade a spade will forever be part of her psyche. She just needs to learn when she can behave like that and when not - for example if she'd been sober enough to realise what the Rohirrim had been trying to pull in Rohan, that probably would have been a moment when it would have been appropriate for her to tear someone off a strip. ;)

If Penny doesn't end up married to Halladan, I will be very disappointed, unless you come up with something even better!

Author Reply: *lol* I have no idea how to respond to that, except to say that I hope you will not be disappointed, whether she marries him or no. ;)

Yea!! Another rousing chapter. :) You know Boz, you have to stop making me cry before I go get ready for work... people will start to wonder whats wrong with me! LOL :)

Poor Penny! What a horrible mess she made, with Elrond's help, of course, but still... ::heavy sigh::. I don't envy her position at all, and I think she's done phenominally well, all told. But what is it with men and their perfectly abhorrent sense of timing? :D Yes, Halladan needed to tell her, but... he meant well....gah! Men! ::giggles::

And Master Elrond: what a noble and wise elf. I love how he spoke his mind, tried to encourage Penny, and yet still held his authority and let her know just who she crossed and how badly. I'm glad he apologized to her (I'd lose faith in him if he hadn't!), and that he did understand why she was so upset and gave credit to her feelings, even if her temper was out of line. I do so hope Penny decides to go South again!

Someone needs to point out to her that Elves are not human. They do not think like humans, nor do they act or re-act like humans. I really want to see her spend some time thinking about Tolkien's world and have a self discovery that even though offended, if an elf says it's done, then it's done, and that Elrond would probably be more upset if she stayed away from Imladris because of their argument. I hope she re-discovers the honor and truth about the elves soon... she's truly more like them than any Gondorian.

And how can Halladan watch over his girl if she's so far away in Gondor? ::giggles madly:: Sorry! I just had to! :)

So very true. *lol* I have tried to make even my wise, good guys have their flaws, foibles or eccentricities. ;D Such is human nature, but we know even from canon that not even Maia or Elves are without their moments (kinslaying, anyone?).

I'm so very pleased your read all of that from Elrond's moment - that was exactly what I was trying to get across. And I think your assessment of Elrond meaning what he says is probably a very fair one. The next few chapters will tell. :)

*lol* at all the rampant Halladan/Penny shipping going on. ;P

These last two chapters have really highlighted something I am currently finding to be true in my own life; things happen - whether through our own fault or no - that leave life forever changed after them. Whether that change is because of the incident itself, or the resultant shifts in perception, it seems to make little difference.

I can't say that I've enjoyed these last two chapters, but instead have found them particularly true to life - especially this one. The emotions you've captured are very real, and you've managed to portray them as such, without exaggerating one or the other.

As a side note, I can't remember if I've ever left a review before our not, but I've been thoroughly enjoying your work and excitedly wait for every installment. Keep up the good work!

Author Reply: Thank you for taking time out to review - I'm glad you have enjoyed it all so far. Thank you also for letting me know that you have found the events of the last two chapters true to life, even if they were perhaps a little difficult for you to read as a consequence (my apologies). I think we have all been there, even if perhaps we only realise it long after the event: we are the sum of the roads we have travelled. :)
