Moments in Time  by Larner 15 Review(s)

Music is always a help to Pippin. I like the variety of tunes he played - they pull together his experience and offer comfort to him. And the moonlit moon-touched child dancing beautifully to the tune of the song of Beren and Luthien has a mystery to it. I'm sure Pippin will always have a soft spot the the child who came out of nowhere and provided such a wonderful experience.

Author Reply: Yes, the music has helped, and the dance even more. And I cannot think that Pippin will ever think of such a child as helpless or graceless again, for he now knows better.

Thanks so much for the feedback, Bodkin.

Oh, how beautiful, Larner! This only now brought the realisation home to me that the rain of heads wasn't nearly the worst horror Pippin faced. It horrified me when I read it, and gave me rather uncomfortable dreams for a few nights, but I guess with so much else to face, Pippin might not have time to really think about it until later.

How wonderful to see dear Tribbals again! I just love her; she's so sweet and thoughtful and perceptive. And the dance was amazing. A Luthien within the Shire, indeed.

The pennywhistle is a perfect instrument for this. I've played and loved them for about four years and always love to hear them, and it's amazing what you can do with something so small.

You do Pippin's perspective wonderfully, and the shared dream at the end was perfect.
God bless,
Galadriel

Author Reply: There was so much of horror to this war; and the rain of heads was but one part of it, and more intended for the Men of the city than for accidental Hobbits, of course.

I had to finish my tribute to the young lady who danced to "Chavala" for us so long ago, I found, and Tribbals insisted on being included, after all; and it helps to weave the associations already built in many ways. And that the Creator would allow her to share some Elven magic seemed just so right for Tribbals Broadloam.

I've played the recorder, but never a proper pennywhistle, although I'd like to find a good one somewhere.

Am so glad you like the perspective of the story, and it only seemed right that the dream should be shared as the magic of the music and dance was shared for the two of them.

So glad you loved it. I think this is one of my own favorites I've written.

Aww...that's so poignant and beautiful. *sigh* The times right after Frodo left must have been so sad and difficult for the other three, and Pippin's memories seem very realistic.

I love the way a little toy instrument could make such lovely music, and the graceful dancing of little Tribbals.

And the dream of Frodo at the end was perfect.

Author Reply: Wars turn former farmers into heroes and former wealthy men into manual laborers alongside those usually seen as their social inferiors. War can be such a great and terrible leveler, I think.

I've found the idea of the rain of heads had been invading my dreams and wanting expression somehow in a reaction of Pippin to the event; and then Tribbals demanded inclusion--and so this came out.

The instruments played at the party were described as having lovely tone, so of course even a pennywhistle from Dale must have boasted the same excellence; and after learning that the Shire themes and Frodo's own theme were played first on a pennywhistle, I must admit this is in part intended to honor the work of Howard Shore and the musicians who played the music for particularly FOTR and ROTK. May they always be honored, and their music delight people for ages yet!

And am so glad you felt toward this story as I find I do. Thank you.

So nice to see him smiling and dancing! I'm sure Pippin dreamed true.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: If only in Pippin's and Tribbal's dreams as yet, Frodo is beginning to find his joy again. And I'm certain they both dreamed true that night.

Thanks so much, and God bless you, too, Antane.

Both Pippin and Tribbals are such gentle yet strong souls. How lovely that this sweet music and dance brought them together.

Then, at last, he rolled himself into his blankets and placed the whistle under his flattened pillow, and gave himself to dreams of Frodo dancing on white shores in sight of a sparking sea, that smile Pippin had loved so lighting his features ... a dream he unwittingly shared with a child lying nearby on her mattress filled with fresh meadow grass.

Lovely.

Author Reply: Yes, two very strong souls united in a moment of gentle beauty. Am so very glad you appreciated it.

Found Tribbals at my door, insisting this be written--another tribute to the girl I saw dancing to "Chavala" so long ago.
