Confusion  by Jay of Lasgalen 32 Review(s)
elliskaReviewed Chapter: 1 on 8/5/2005
Hehe. I think being a twin would have its moments and depending on your mood and POV, they might be good or bad. I remember it saying somewhere in the books that only Elrond and Celebrian could consistantly tell them apart, so there is a lot of potential for trouble. Confusion over work and ladies'attentions are the two areas that come to mind first for me, so I was amused by how this story started out.

“Do not worry – Elrohir will not be doing it, you can be certain of that!” Elrohir responded a little sourly.

*Snort* That was funny (pretty much any line in this I could have quoted because they are all funny) but it must have been confusing for you to write this and get things like "Elrohir won't..." Elrohir said. typed correctly. I mean, when I type anything about the twins, I am always checking to make sure I have the right twin talking. To intentionally do something like this would drive me nuts. :-)

This has a lot of potential for fun! Glad to see you start a new one so soon.

Author Reply: I know that Tolkien said 'few could tell them apart,' - and that's what I'm playing on here. It must be incredibly annoying to be constantly mistaken for someone else, and poor Elrohir's at the end of his tether. Don't worry, things will get worse before they get better!

Yes, it was rather confusing to write - it took a lot of careful checking to be sure I had the right twin in each sentence.

Oh, poor Elrohir. Today is just not his day, it seems. I have a feeling he'll be pathetically grateful for having Arwen around before this story is out. I'm glad to see Arwen in this story. She's kind of grown on me as a character, and I like the way you write her -- very practical, and a sweet young thing.

The twins must be very identical if people they've known since the birth canal have trouble telling them apart. Sometimes it's strange with identical twins. Once, I was working as a receptionist, and this vaguely familiar-looking guy walked into the office and asked me to summon his brother, then hung around looking expectant. I asked him to tell me who his brother was. He looked shocked, gave the guy's name, and said, "We're twins."

The brother turned up, and they were indeed identical twins. I'm still puzzled as to why I was so clueless upon seeing the twin of a guy I worked with. You'd think I'd recognize the face, or even the family resemblance, but no.

Author Reply: Grateful to Arwen? Well, no - not the way I have this story planned out. You'll soon see why!

Glorfindel rarely confuses E&E. On this occasion, he was expecting Elrohir, so that's who he saw. Elladan just took advantage of the slip!

Our vicar has identical twin daughters. He was telling me once than he'd been talking to daughter A for about ten minutes, when she told him indignantly, "Dad, I'm Victoria, not Alice!" Another twin I used to work with once forgot her sister's birthday ...
