Aha, and so our beloved King is part of the telling. Is the other teller his great friend Legolas, then?

Nice beginning.

Hello, Larner:

I just happened to be online when this came in. Wil have to go soon, though. I can't answer your question yet, I'm afraid :-) - but you will find out eventually.

THank you for dropping in - always a delight to hear from readers who take the time to write.

I think the kind-hearted elfing is little Legolas. And, speaking of which, the story of Legolas being the only one who backed up Aragorn on his begetting day was lovely. I have found few tales that explain their love for one another, but this story certainly shows a reason for Aragorn's trust and loyalty for the elf.

You did a great job of describing poor Legolas, first in shock and then in tears trying to supress his laughter. I also really liked the tenderness that the adult storytellers showed their charges. You have a talent for portraying loving relationships in a way that is palpable. Very nice. ~TF

Thank you, TF - with so much violence in this world (and our own little moments where we may be uncaring towards others) - portraying these loving relationships is a real delight. I am having fun doing this sotry - though I am finding it harder than I thought it would be.

Yes I felt for poor Legolas in that uncomfortable position, too, lol! AS for your guess: it'll have to wait to be answered --- as usual. ;-)

I love the complexity of the different points of view. The children and the elflings are adorable and the relationships with 'Ada' and Aragorn are delightful.

That Jack Pumpkinhead costume was cruel on the part of the twins, though. It probably drove Aragorn to spend several decades in scruffy rangerhood rather than risk dressing up.

And I love the trusting and loyal relationship of friend to friend!

THank you, Bodkin. Glad you are enjoying this little tale. :-)

Oh what a great supposition! Hahahaha!!! WIsh I had thought of that!!

Nicely done Legolass. And just a bit different in its presentation too - well done.

Awwwww....I absolutely love this sweet little story. And the switching back and forth from Elrond (am I right?) and Aragorn was fantastic. In a way, I almost see this as somewhat of a sequel to For the Love of the Lord of the White Tree. And I loved the way you incorporated the Elven language into our modern terms: grandnaneth!! I thought that was the cutest thing. Well, keep writing, and I'll look for more soon.

Hey ArcherGal! Nice to talk to you in both onine domains. :-)
Back at work today, so - only a short response.

I use Grandnaneth because I didn't know what else to use, lol! Glad it worked for you at least!

THanks for dropping in.

Now this is a great surprise on an otherwise dreary Monday, my favorite author has posted a new story. Welcome back, very happy to see your muse is still up & kicking.
Great new story (humm, can we call it new since it's an side bar to your other story) and so far no elf-owies. I love it. Aragorn as a grandfather, don't know if the world is ready for that-some times I think of him & Legolas has overgrown elflings (males only grow taller, not wiser ya know). I'm glad to see him passing on the most important things to future generations and I love the tie in to the small elfling part of the story.

Update soon,

Your fan,

Eliza

Well met again, ELiza! And I must say your greeting and review brightened MY first day back at work after a ten-day break I took. Thank you!

Yes - IS it really a new story? Good question! I really didn't know what to call it; I just wanted to get it down.

Oh I love that comment about those two being overgrown elflings, lol. I quite agree!

There may be no elf-owies here, since this isn;t a 'real' story - so I guess my usual readers will be relieved, you think? I'll have to work up some major angst in the next long tale I write, which will be ... when??? Sigh...

Delighted to hear from you. :-)

Hmmmm, interesting story. Now I'm wondering where it will go from here. Reading your preface in chapter one, I have to say I harbor a pet notion that elves are sometimes drawn to men. I wrote about it in one of my little ditties. It doesn't really make sense for that type of friendship to happen, but it's a nice thing to speculate about. Anyway, I look forward to the next chapter. ~TF

Hi again TF!

Where will this story go from here? Nowhere much - it really will be a series of bedtime stories. :-)

"I harbor a pet notion that elves are sometimes drawn to men. I wrote about it in one of my little ditties"

I must say I agree with you. And I would love to find out why Tolkien was fond of that notion - that some Firstborn commit their loyalty to some Men. True, a great reciprocal friendship is cultivated, but I can't think of a case where it is the adan who initiates the great friendship. Can you?

As for it making sense... I guess it should not, but that's why it's so precious. Or maybe I'm just being silly. *grin*

Oh yes must read your little ditty too when i can get to it. As it is, I have 'stolen' time from work to do this. Eeeep.

Lovely to hear from you. :-)

I really like the way you tell this story! It is as if the two narrators and the children/ elflings were living in the present and telling stories of ages long past - it makes me feel as if I would live in the same time they do, Middle-Earth would still be there and Aragorn king. *contented sigh* And it is just cosy. (I wish I could find me a log cabin with a nice fireplace and read the story there!)

Fine - "ada" is obviously not Legolas. I love that kind-hearted elfling! *huggles elfling* I'm beginning to wonder if the two narrators live at the same time?! I'm not even sure there were any elflings in Middle-Earth when Aragorn was a grandfather... *ponders*

“I want a friend like that when I grow up,” he decided aloud. *grins fondly* Well, I'm grown up, but I'd still like to have a friend like that!

I love that story - lots of friendship and warm-hearted humour! Though I will fetch me some tissues for the next part, just in case you intend to tell the story of Beleg and Turin to its end... Looking forward to the next part!

I wish I could find me a log a cabin, too - so I can stay there and do nothing but write all my stories, and eat and go for walks, and dream, and write stories...

And yeah I wish Aragorn were king now. I'd do anything to go and see him and *shiver* get to know his elven companion too. Sigh....

Oh, BTW, I doubt that you will need tissues for this story, my dear. :-)

YAY! A new story from you! *happy dance* Seems I've joined this site at the right time! *leaves to get herself some chocolate, tea, smelling salts and athelas... just in case... :D*
That's a sweet beginning! I like these elflings and I like Aragorn as a grandfather. But who is ada? Could it be Legolas? I'm looking forward to the story-telling part! *settles down comfortably and looks at the screen expectantly*

Well hello! Didn't expect to see you here - but it's great! FFnet is acting up and I can't post there at the moment - even my other story is gone! eeeep. Hope it's temporary.

THis will be a MUCH shorter story, so you won't need all the health precautions. :-)

But I am going to start on a longer story as soon as I can. ;-)
