History Lessons: The Third Age  by Nilmandra 22 Review(s)

Ohhh, I really love that conversation between Frodo and Elrond.

Frodo looked away, pondering his words, and Elrond felt a sudden gratitude that despite the loss of Vilya’s power, his healing and insight had existed before he wielded it, and still existed now. He soothed the hurt that existed deep within Frodo, and took his first glimpse of Frodo’s spirit. He found it in much the same condition as his own. Outwardly Frodo appeared well, for he did not yet realize the extent of the damage done to the core of his being. Elrond had no doubt that disquiet and discontent would grow.

Nilmandra, this chapter is marvelous. Thank you for showing us this wedding, and for this glimpse into the love, grief, and strength that is Elrond.

He felt strangely isolated, a feeling he had recognized and grown accustomed to on the journey south. Life was moving forward around him, while he seemed to shrink further away from it. He was swept along with the current, yet no longer in control of where it led him

As Arwen spoke, Elrond felt the pain growing within him as his bond with his daughter strained and pulled from one of elvish life to that of mortal

Amazing. And how wonderful that the jewel which brought you to fanfiction has finally found such an honored place in your epic tale.

Author Reply: LOL, more amazing that its taken me nearly a million words written to finally feel like I can write a story for that white jewel! I think I did have to understand those rings, their powers, the hurt down to the bearers, a little of elvish magic, and walk with the characters to this point to understand myself. A bit strange perhaps, but if the shoe fits.... :/

I am glad you liked the chapter. I felt like I wanted to dump the whole thing and just pick up post-wedding.

My favorite part of this is the comfort Celebrian offers Elrond. No one understands this as they do. They share this grief and always will. But they draw strength from one another's mere presence. And soon they'll be less alone because they'll be with one another.

Author Reply: He really has to be holding on to being reunited with her at long last. Life is ending here, but he is hopefully keeping his eyes on something better in his own future.
