Fields of Gold  by Anso the Hobbit 97 Review(s)
DreamflowerReviewed Chapter: 3 on 2/4/2005
This is so sweet. Poor Merry, stuck with chicken pox. But at least they are not going to have to keep his Pip away from him, for a change Pippin can't get what he has.
And poor Eglantine--none of her daughters have had it yet? Uh-oh, she's going to be really overwhelmed!
You don't suppose Frodo will turn up to help, do you?

Author Reply: Thank you! Yes it`s good Pip has already had it. And Eglantine will have a stressful time of this. Taking care of sick people is hard work.

Well, he is on the list of characters... :)

This is coming along so well! I like that Pippin is getting to be the care giver and that Pervinca is being so kind to her brother. Well done!!

Author Reply: Thank you! I think Pervinca is just as scared over her cousin being sick as Pippin is and if there`s anything she can do to help, she`d do it.

"Poor Merry! Maybe he would die after all, because if Pippin were to judge by how Merry looked this morning, he didn`t have long left."

Poor Pippin!! Oh my, what a wonderful, loving (and suspenseful) story.

Author Reply: Thank you! Yes, Pippin is in for a hard time, he is that. And when there`s nothing he can do to make Merry happy he gets very worried.

Very nice... pippin thinks Merry is going to leave him and dosen't want to play with him anymore. Merry straightens him out,but worries himself as he feels so tired.
Merry is sick and goes to bed as Pippin watches over him,his aunt and uncle worrie as well since Merry is always well.

Nice story, can't wait to hear more....

Author Reply: Thank you for reading! They are all worried over what is happening to Merry, including himself. This is new to all of them and they aren`t used to see Merry anything but healthy and well.

Excellently written, and good characterizations. Am hoping Pippin doesn't catch (or recatch) whatever it is.

Author Reply: Thank you! :)

Pippin is easily exposed to illness so Merry would wonder if he might catch what Merry`s got too.

Oh, I love how Pippin reasons things through in his "little-kid" way...

And his fierce protectiveness of Merry. And Eglantine's wisdom, that Pippin's probably already exposed, so why separate him from Merry now?

What *is* wrong with Merry, anyhow? You've got me on pins and needles!

Author Reply: Thank you for your nice comments! This is completely new for all of them and they all worry about Merry, including himself. He doesn`t know what is happening either and doesn`t recognise the tiredness. Poor lad, he known trhough sitting with Pippin how it is to be ill, but he barely has any experience on it himself.

And what it is? hehe *evil grin* just wait and see... :)

Oh, why do I think things *won't* be better in the morning! Poor Pippin is about to go through something very traumatic, isn't he? *frets*

“I`ll take care of you then, Mer.” Pippin said, tugging on Merry`s blanket and covering him up, tucking the soft material up under Merry`s chin. He didn`t think he could cope with taking care of his Mer if Merry was going to die, though of course he would have tried his best, and he was very glad that Merry had promised he wouldn’t. Pippin would do all in his might to see that Merry didn’t hurt too much, and that he got well fast, just like Merry always did for him.

“Thank you Pippin.” Merry reached out and Pippin willingly crawled into his lap, hugging Merry tight.

I just adore all the love in this story, and that Pippin's questions and concerns are answered and not dismissed. It's obvious that he and Merry are just inseparable. And now there's a very important promise to be kept, isn't there?

Author Reply: Thank you for such nice comments! Pip is definitely in for a trial, that much can be revealed, lol.

I think they so easily take Pippin`s questions and concerns seriously since they have dealt so much with illness and any little cold can turn dangerous for Pippin. They are however not used to Merry feeling ill, so they are all on pins and needles to see what this is that has made him so very tired.

Excellent beginning, with just the right touch of problems building.

Author Reply: Thank you! Chapter two is up now.
