Very sweet. It kind of reminds me of the "Little House on the Prairie" books, actually, and how they made Christmas happy, even if they didn't have much. Of course, LOTR is pre-christmas, but Yule is still a lovely holiday in winter. It's nice that they were able to find some happiness in their friends, even on such a perilous jouney. Author Reply: Well, this was just at the beginning of the journey, and the first really important thing they were missing in the Shire. But their friends rallied around.

They are on the quest when Yule is going on. Forgot about that! Author Reply: Yes. They leave on the twenty-fifth of December, four days before First Yule. They really have not *quite* reached Hollin yet, but they are somewhere near there in the Wilderness.

Sam sat forward eagerly, and Pippin relaxed into Frodo’s embrace. "Relaxing into Frodo's embrace" would almost make the tramp through Hollin in winter worth it. Almost. Anyway, it's nice to enjoy it by way of Pippin! Feeling cuddled, esamen Author Reply: Nothing like cuddly hobbits, is there? 8-D

Ah, poor hobbits, homesick on the holidays. That's the worst, esp. where they are. Very thoughtful of the Fellowship to make them a small feast. There's no better gift for a hobbit than food! Author Reply: I think that is perhaps the *first* thing one learns to grasp when making the acquaintance of hobbits: the importance of food! LOL!

Ahh. Such a sweet fellowship - all supporting each other. Food, alcohol and coloured smoke rings. What more could they want? Author Reply: Well, it wasn't what they were used to in the Shire, but the Fellowship was gradually becoming family!
