It Takes a Took  by Dreamflower 12 Review(s)

LOL, that *little* Pippin of yours is a wee pistol! He's my pal, though; I used to make my parents give me water to rinse the "tonic" down--and even spit some of it into the water before drinking it. :-X

I see Merry's still checking out Diamond for his Pippin, lol. He's too cool. This continues to be a fantastic story! (naturally... :-) )

Pippinfan

Author Reply: Well, "little" Pippin learned his lesson. Not so his father, LOL!

Of course Merry's checking her out. You don't think he'd leave something that important to chance, do you? *chuckle*

I'm so glad you are still enjoying it!

Aww...I reallyed liked this chapter! Oh boy, an obsticle with Diamond being a healer, but I don't think that'll hamper anything too bad :P I only got up to this chapter last night, but I'll read the rest in a couple days! I'm curious to see what happens!

Author Reply: It's the one *real* obstacle, and we will have to see how that works out. I am eager to see your new chapter of "Beauty for Ashes" but I am saving it for this evening. Hubby has to go to a seminar, and I think it will be a good chapter to keep me company while I eat supper tonight! 8-D

A couple of nice glimpses into Frodo's character:
Frodo laughed. “It doesn’t do to have the healers have things all their own way, now does it?” (Frodo! You're such a Took about healers!)
Frodo chuckled. “I don’t think so, Sam. There’s only one reason Merry would be paying so much attention to the lovely healer’s apprentice! So she’s caught Pippin’s eye, has she?”
(Frodo knows Merry, and Pippin, so well.)

Ah, *that* round robin! I was thinking of the current one, but yes, you used it very nicely indeed.

And this was worth a laugh:
“I don’t interfere!”
Frodo and Sam frankly goggled at him.

Author Reply: Frodo's more of a Took about them than Pippin is right now. Of course, Pippin has a healer he wants to impress, LOL!

Frodo does know them very well indeed. To me it's all a part of what I think of as the "cousinly connection".

Yes, that one, the first one, which I think came out very nicely. I wish that the new one would get going. It's just been languishing, poor thing.

Yes; I thought that little piece of denial was worth a goggle or two, didn't you?

Thanks for the reviews!

"But the need was more Merry's than it was Pippin's." An interesting thought. Frodo observes much in his cousins. An interesting reminder about the fact that He has only 9 fingers. I tend to forget that. I don't blame him for not wanting to discuss it. That "finger incident" occured with Frodo at his lowest point - if you could even consider him "Frodo" at the time, if you take my meaning.

Author Reply: Merry has a strong need to take care of his loved ones; he can get a bit carried away at times.

Frodo is still a bit self concious about the "finger". You are right. It is a reminder of the worst thing that ever happened to him: the way the Ring took control of him, and robbed him of the chance to be himself.

Lovely! I like how Diamond Sam, frodo and merry have an outing with each other. Merry is full of questions and wants to protect pippin even when he may not need it. Diamond isn't interested for now,but I am sure pippin will change her mind.
I can't wait till pippin wakes up so I can hear what his sister wants to talk to him about. She wants to thanks him to be sure.
A great story, keep upi the good writing....

Author Reply: Yes, I thought that Merry, Frodo and Sam deserved a chance to get to know this lass that has captured their Pippin's heart, especially Merry.
Diamond does have a little clue, thanks to Mistress Lavender, but she is not quite ready yet to turn curiousity into interest.
Yes, Pimmie has to thank her brother for her husband's life--a scary thought for anyone!
Thanks for the lovely review. 8-)

Why was Pim weeping? Is there a reason Diamond seems so set against marriage? Will Merry interfere too much? I'll have to keep reading . . . won't I?

Author Reply: For the answers to these and other questions, tune in again, same time, same channel...

Well, Diamond didn't seem to notice, but Merry couldn't hide what he was doing from Frodo and Sam could he? So now everyone knows, except Eglantine. That doesn't seem right. Pippin's mother should know. Anyway cute chapter, loved the interregation. And Merry doesn't interfere - ha!

Author Reply: Oh I don't suppose it will take Eglantine long.

You'll notice he blushed when he said that, after Frodo and Sam stared him down.*grin* Our Merry, interfere? Would he do such a thing? *snort*

Oh, bravo! I love how you worked our little story into this one. Good job!

Author Reply: I really thought we all did a nice job on that first little story, and I'm looking forward to seeing it all edited and up on an archive eventually. But I thought it deserved a little recognition. I hope people will start posting again on the new story!

Ah, so Diamond seems to have passed Merry's scrunity, eh? Now all we have to do is get her really interested in Pippin himself. She has a lot to learn about Pippin, his cousins (especially the mysterious one!!) and the strange things they use to heal. She should inquire of them a bit more about the athelas since she has all of their attentions.

It sounds like Miss Diamond has a little more modern streak in her. Thinking it would be nice to have your own place and be in charge of yourself. Pip had better watch out about her opinions, LOL.

It will be interesting to see how you bring these two together.

Author Reply: You have put your finger on the thing that is going to figure in this a lot. Diamond is a Took--with a plentiful helping of Tookish curiousity...

Yes, she does have an independent streak. That's going to be Pip's hardest hurdle to overcome. I think that sense of independence is one reason for many of the female healers--the knowledge that they have a certain amount of freedom and respect that the average female hobbit does not get.

I think it will be interesting, too. As I said before, I have the beginning and end of this one ready, but I'm feeling my way through the middle, LOL!

I somehow think this healer's apprentice is likely to end up wed. If she has passed the Meriadoc Brandybuck test of suitability, he would be wise to hold back now and let Pippin do his own wooing. But that might spoil the fun.

Author Reply: Well, it might spoil Merry's fun, but I don't think it would spoil Pippin's, LOL! Hopefully Merry will be subtle and discrete in his attempts to help. Frodo probably won't let him get too carried away--maybe...
or maybe not... (*big evil grin*)
