Don't you dare stop there!

However, Gentle Reader, there are other nights...

There had better be. *walks away muttering*

Author Reply: I won't DARE stop here. I'll write more as soon as I think of more which won't be long and might be quite soon, but one never knows, because I make promises like that all the time and break them but I'll try real hard not to do that with this one and in fact chapter 2 is taking shape - in my head - and might actually hit the word processor before its time for me to have my roots done again. This was such fun! Speaking of fun, I have one nitpick. When Boromir says, "It is a fun tale," the word 'fun' struck me as not quite right for the way the character usually speaks. Maybe 'lively' or 'amusing'? Just a thought. The story is delightful. Your writing is so vivid that I could feel the chill and the water seeping into poor Boromir's boot! I loved the characterizations and look forward to reading more.

Author Reply: Thanks for the pickup, flick. I didn't like Boromir saying 'fun' either, but was too tired to think of something else. Feel free to nitpik. All my stuff goes up unbeta'd - just l'il ole me trying to find the misplaced commas, unsupported thoughts, uneven characterizations and ridiculous presumptions. If I find enough of them - I slap a 'humor' tag on it and submit it anyway! So - I'm glad you like it and I look forward to reading more also. And I will read more. As soon as I write more. This story has everything, humor, pathos, boredom, but it currently lacks, um, PLOT. So, if you find one lying about in the gutter somewhere, it is likely mine. Send it Federal Express. I'll pay the postage. Lindorien

Throughout the story, I felt like kicking Pippin, more than I usually do, that is. And I loved Boromir's thoughts on Gandalf, hehe.

And I actually pities Aragorn for a moment... As for Frodo perking up on hearing about women, this made me chuckle.

Where's the rest of it?

Author Reply: The rest of it is coming. And very soon. I think. They'll be lots more. I hope. and you'll all laugh (please eru!). And then I'll sing (dear g-tt!) and dance (massive cringe) but soon. soon. (Lindorien looks to the gods of Inspiration and casts her prayer skyward. Something descends, but Lindorien fears it's only bird doo-doo.)

Oh, this is funny! I love Boromir, Aragorn and Legolas acting as umbrellas and Aragorn and Gandalf being grumpy and Boromir's decision to tell exactly the stories that will make the gallant Ranger cringe.

Author Reply: I'm so glad it's funny. You know, an author writes a piece of humor - casts it to the four winds and sits chewing her nails thinking somebody is going to tell your - YOU'RE NOT FUNNY! So - I heave a sigh of relief and consider how best I might further torture explore the complex relationship between Aragorn and his past. Lindorien

love this story, I can just see Strider, with a wet blanket over his head, thinking," no, no, no, must get him to shut up". hmmm, and what is this part about the captain and the ladies. can't wait to find out.

Author Reply: Hmmm...Frodo can't wait to find out about those ladies either. Some of that in the next chapter. Which won't be long in coming. I hope. I'm glad your loving it. May you continue to love it! Lindorien

(Shouting from a safe distance) Could you please fix the following: There at the middle of the of this grouping ... Thank you.

Author Reply: All fixed Imrahoil. If you find anything else, just let me know! Email works also! Course, so does Carrier Pigeon. Of course, they are extinct. Deep lament. But, anyway, all fixed. Thanks for the catch. Lindorien

Lindorien, what HAS happened? Here I am, back after more than 2 weeks expecting happily all those little complete signs under your stories, well, under a few of your stories, what, not even Free fall? No Council of Elrond? Only 2 - very - short stories and lots of new building sites?

Do you really need constant prodding? Prod. Prodprod. Prod. Push. Oh, sorry, Lindorien! Come, I'll help you up. Lindorien, I didn't do it on purpose, I did NOT. Lindorien, I said I was sorry. Lindorien? AAAAAaaaaaaaaaah ...

Author Reply: Hey! Didn't you read 'Reflections Bright in Water Dark'? That's almost 3000 words. War and Peace for me! But no. No reviews from you on it and none on the Very Short Ones neither. In depression deep I go to wallow...

I so knew you'd nail me when you got home. Blame Acacea, she's always saying, "Why don't you write..." and then I grouse and say, "I haven't the time, got enough writing deadlines, thankyouverymuch!" Then I get a little frustrated or stymied and I hear her whispering in my ear and before I know it...stuff like this is perpetrated born.

Council of Elrond requires I READ that chapter and it's so FREAKING long. (Lindorien whimpers, cringing at the thought of reading all the explanations and stories and excuses and more explanations and yada yada yada...) Anyway, that's my excuse. Yes, precioussss - shall continue on. We alwaysss promissses, we neversss deliversss. Welcome home! Lindorien

That was hilarious! Especially since the title and the first paragraph were such a clear indication of what was to come and that Aragorn would dread it. I wonder how many nights it will take for him to give away his secret ...

fliewatuet

Author Reply: I don't think he'll give away his secret. I think he'll sit in stoic silence, grinding his teeth, inwardly lamenting that he sort of only has himself to blame for giving Boromir a shove because he became tired of listening to Pippin wheedle.

classic case of 'be careful what one wishes for, lest the gods oblige.'

Now then - what will GANDALF do about it. That might be interesting.

This was very entertaining, Lindorien! I particularly enjoyed Boromir's little memories of Faramir, but it was also funny to see Aragorn react and to see Boromir trying to make sense of that reaction.

Author Reply: Thanks so much, daw, but Acacea is the true shill GENIUS behind this work! I've probably got another 5 or 6 chapters to go before Aragorn dissolves into a little puddle on the forest floor. You see, I owed her a Thorongil fic which will someday get written titled Fire on the Water. But she wrote the drabbles ABOUT this song and I decided to go a little further and actually WRITE the song, but decided I could hedge on the actual song-writing for quite a while by surrounding it with silly prose.

So, I hope you continue to enjoy this and thanks for reading! Lindorien
