Yes, I caught that bit of magic, daw. :-) But, oi, poor Dori! He was upset enough about being a Bilbo's porter, if he ever gets words that elves thought him Bilbo's mother...ai! ;-) Very entertaining.

Author Reply: I have to admit I made myself laugh too.

Talk about crashing a party! I guess nobody does it better than a dwarf. The images that you have invoked really had me laughing! I am surprised that Thranduil didn't blow his stack, but I suppose being the king, he had to keep some semblance of regal appearance. Poor Legolas! Between the dwarves and the threat of spiders, he probably wished he was with Eilian in the south. Fighting orcs must seem a lot easier than trying to keep away the uninvited guests. A very enjoyable chapter!

Author Reply: I started off thinking I was going to write this seriously because really things are grim in Mirkwood. But Tolkien and the dwarves were too much for me. I just wound up laughing myself, so I figured that's what life is like anyway--a mixture of farce and tragedy and joy and pain, often in a very short time.

i think its funny how the dwarves are crashing into everything like there chickens with their heads cut off, going mad.
its good to see legolas and Annael act as they did when they were little. Since they grew up into adults, it seems that that kind of carefree playfulness dimmed a bit.
and the poor bride and groom! They sure had an... eventful bonding ceremony. Good chapter, and update soon!

Author Reply: The dwarves just came out funny no matter what I did, and Legolas and Annael noticed it too. They were having fun at a friend's wedding, egging one another on a bit. I figure Tonduil and his bride will have stories to tell their grandchildren!

Daw, you did such a wonderful job of "fitting" your chapter to The Hobbit! Well done. I especially enjoyed seeing Thranduil's use of magic in this chapter. I often forget that he has those special abilities. It was nice to see him use his powers in such a great way. I also enjoyed his relationship with Legolas in this chapter, although I suspect that Legolas didn't enjoy it as much as I did!

Author Reply: I was worried about showing how the magic happened, but it turned out to be fun to do. I think his magic comes from his link to the woods. I am very interested in Legolas's relationship with his father at this point in his life. He's been away from home and been successful. And now he's home again, living under his father's gaze. I think that has to cause some tension.

great chapter, daw. :-)

Author Reply: Thank you, Karri. I thought of you as I kept consulting my copy of The Hobbit.

Author Reply: Also, I forgot to say: there's Wood-elf magic for you, Karri!!!
