An Act of Betrayal  by Manderly 33 Review(s)
FirnsarnienReviewed Chapter: 9 on 5/11/2004
Aaaarg! *tears at hair, pulling several handfulls out in frustration* Egads, will this torment never end? :O Poor Leggy! Poor Thranduil and Tavaro for having to see that horribly torn and bloodied tunic! *sob* That's just awful! It must have torn their heart out! *sniff* I could just see both their faces going chalk-white when they read that note from the Easterlings. It must be dreadful to be stuck at home when all you want to do is tear out of the palace to find Legolas! I think I'd tear down every bush, turn over every rock, torture every bit of info out of any orc or man I'd encounter and scream at the top of my lungs to the heavens to help me find Legolas! Eeeek! That's pretty desperate huh? Well, see what you've driven me to!? Desperation!!! Heh, heh!

Feren and Aldeon are so maddeningly close. Oh, I can just imagine the horror on their faces when they see their dear little brother hanging by his wrists from a tree, bloodied and torn AND unconsious to boot! Boy are they gonna be MAD! Yup, that's M.A.D! Can't say I blame 'em! Hmmmm, maybe I should be saying poor Easterlings??? Naaaaah! LOL

Good grief woman, while you *are* typing fast, my anxiety just hasn't eased *one bit*! I think it's worse now than when you started! Please hurry and put me out of my misery! And I hope to Illuvitar this next chappy has Feren and Aldeon finding and rescuing Leggy! Really, how much of him is actually left to rescue! :) (But you know, I really do love all this Leggy angst, right? ;) The more the better! Heh, heh!)

Can't wait for the next chappy, but I guess I'll have to huh? LOL Hurry!

Author Reply: I've posted the next chapter so hopefully you can stop pulling your hair out. It was difficult trying to write Thranduil's reaction (and Tavaro's) to Legolas' plight, trying to find the right balance between total blood-thirsty rage and a sense of responsibility for the realm. As you can see in the latest chapter, Legolas is in a bit of a mess, both physically and mentally. Everybody is in for some angst yet.

Aaaaah! I just got back and I see that nothing has changed these last two chapters! Still horrible cliffies! :P Oh my, first he gets beaten by his Elven captors and now he's getting beaten by these Easterlings?! He's gonna be a mess when Aldeon and Feren finally find him! I sure hope they find him soon! Make them move faster, please!

And you too, type faster! Post faster! Hurry! ;) LOL

Author Reply: I hear you, typing as fast as I can.

Aldeon and Feren really need to show up soon or there won't be much left of their brother for them to rescue.

Yikes, Legolas keeps getting the crap beat out of him. But he appears a strong elf, hope that he manages to maintain his defiance through all this. And I hope the brothers are going to find Legolas before he and his captors get too far away from Mirkwood. There are not many elves and a lot of men to fight. Give Legolas his freedom and a knife and I feel he may even the odds a little. Can't wait for the next chapter.

Author Reply: Legolas is really getting the rough treatment here, isn't he? I suppose the ordeal will help him mature, if it doesn't traumatizes him for life first. He is defiant, but he is also very young and has been sheltered all his life. I think he needs his brothers to show up soon. Let me work on that.

Wow! What will the king do? I know the brothers will not show mercy....So some elves did not learn after the kinslayings...This will only get better! Update soon....this princling is truly a child no longer.

Minna Sedh, Hisie Lome

Author Reply: Given the choice, I don't think Thranduil will show mercy either, though his hands are rather tied, being the king. The brothers will kick butt for sure, I think. No, the princeling is no longer a child, though I don't think Legolas was quite prepared to be yanked out of childhood in such a brutal way.

Oh dear. Poor Legolas. I expected that when his captors delivered him to the Easterlings, something would go wrong with the exchange - their son would either be already dead or still a prisoner.

I have just one request. When Legolas's brothers find him (and they will, won't they?) neither of them are killed! Please!

Jay

Author Reply: I played with several ideas as I was writing the part where Legolas was being delivered to the Easterlings, including those that you mentioned, before finally settling on the one in this chapter. I hope it will work in with my storyline.

I am getting rather fond of Legolas' brothers (shamelessly) so I don't think I can bear to have anything happen to them any time soon, so worry not.

P.S. Anxiously awaiting updates on your stories.

Aaaaah! Horrible cliffy! Again! Aaaaaaack! Blood! They keep finding blood! Aaaaaah! I don't know what else to do but scream! Aaaaaah! Jumping out of my chair and pacing doesn't help!

LOL You know, while I *was* at work when I read the last chappy, (and this one too), it was after school and *after* the kids had already left for the day! :) So you see, I still worked, then I played! LOL ;)

Ooooh, I just wanted to pound Yulion over the head! He deserves a good whak for betraying Thranduil and all of Mirkwood!

Egads, hurry with the next chappy will ya?! *sob* But, I won't be able to read any updates till Sunday evening. We're going out of town this weekend! *sniffle* Well, hurry anyway! :)

Author Reply: It seems like I am always ending chapters at a bad place, even though it doesn't seem like it when I am writing them. Yulion is an idiot and hopefully he'll get what's coming to him. Well, at least both Aldeon and Feren are out there looking for their brother. There's hope yet.

Ah, angst in all it's glory! And you write it so lovely! :) It's just the right touch, although personally, I could go for a ton more...heh, heh! ;) But, it's just great. Gives me such wonderful heart pangs.

I kinda feel sorry for Meldon. He loves his brother and wants him back, he just doesn't see that what he is doing is wrong. It's his Adar that's twisted. I hope he realizes that before it's too late. I like the way you make him gentle when he tends to Leggy. It really shows his reluctance to hurt another Elf and makes him more human...er...more Elvish. ;) Wow, and he didn't even lose his temper at Leggy's outburst as his father would have.

Ah, poor Aldeon and Hesin. Finding that blood certainly didn't help their state of mind any, nor their heart. I hope they rescue Leggy soon before Meldon's father hurts him worse, or, before he Easterlings get their hands on him! :O *shudder*

Hurry with the next chappy! How 'bout you post again today? Like, when I get home from work? Heh, heh!

Author Reply: So you are reading this at work? I really admire people who do that. I am prsonally too much of a coward to do it myself, always thinking the whole world would know that I am goofing off.

I feel sorry for Meldon too. The poor elf is really stuck between his conscience and his love for his brother.

I am afraid that Aldeon and Hesin have a bit more worrying to do yet.

Ah, so it begins! :) The angst I mean! LOL Well, and everything else too! But really Manderly, what a horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE place to leave us hanging! :P That was *not* nice!

Poor Leggy. He thought he was simply going to take a nice leisurely stroll in the woods, listen to the trees and smell the fresh air. Instead, he finds himself tied up and beaten! And his poor body is not even recovered from his last brush with death! And now he's bleeding...from his side???? :O Oh my! This is *not* looking good!

I read this chappy in record time, it was so good I couldn't put it down! Er, I mean, I couldn't tear my eyes away from the screen! Read it all down to the last drop! :)

Hmmm, Meldon is feeling a bit of guilt and remorse huh? I hope he helps Leggy get away, he just might be salvagable. Now his father on the other hand, I think he may very well be a lost cause.

Can't wait for the next chappy! :) I'll be here...right here...see, I'm right in front of my computer...patiently waiting the next chappy. :)

Author Reply: Sorry to leave you hanging, but next chapter should be up soon.

Legolas has some tough time ahead of him. Meldon is struggling with his conscience and his love for his brother. Ambartur is certainly not going to win any popularity contests or sympathy. He's rather deranged, isn't he?

AlyReviewed Chapter: 4 on 5/5/2004
Oiy! You've really put Meldon in a tough spot there. I have a feeling he doesn't really agree with having to give Legolas up, but he wants his brother back.

I can't wait for more! Thanks for the quick updates. :)
Aly

Author Reply: I really do feel for Meldon. I think he does have a sense of honour but he also loves his brother. And having a father like Ambartur certainly doesn't help. I am glad you feel sympathy for him as I didn't want to make all the "bad guys" totally without redemption.

rikwenReviewed Chapter: 4 on 5/5/2004
A heart stopper! My angst meter is ringing furiously. Just as he gets better, poor Legolas is treated to the abuse from traitors. Meldon's father certainly has a gripe with Thranduil. Unfortunately, it looks like his idea to trade Legolas for his younger son is only going to bring heartache. Can't wait for the next chapter!

Author Reply: Your angst meter is pretty accurate, I must admit. There's quite a bit of angst coming. I just hope it doesn't come across as mindless angst. And yes, Meldon's father is almost deranged in his hatred for Thrandui. I wasn't very sympathetic when I was creating his character.

Thanks for reviewing.
