Carefully Taught  by Linda Hoyland 52 Review(s)

This is one of my favorites of your stories; a sensitive, sweet and often humorous story about beings of goodwill overcoming their prejudices. Love it that Sulion consented to bearing non-royal children on his back. He will certainly have some tales to tell to the dragons and people of his distant homeland!

Nicely written, a treat to read all the way.

Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review and all your help with this story. I'm so pleased that you enjoyed the adventures of our friendly dragon. I think he and our heroes in Gondor have all learned a lot.

A delightful finish to a wonderful story! I hope that we all might find such friends unlooked for, and have good reason to let go of old fears and hatreds and prejudices! And I will look for Sulion's return!

Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review and all your support of this story.I would hope we might all find such friends too.I hope that one day I will be able to write more about Sulion.

What a joyous ending. The years will bring these families many visits back and forth, and new adventures as the children grow. I enjoyed this marvelous story very much.

Oh, dear--now the fat's in the fire! Heh! Love the reactions of Sulion to those he meets. Deadly nightshade, perhaps? Good to have it gone!

Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review.I'm pleased you enjoyed Sulion's reactions. I was thinking of Deadly nightshade too.

She studied her mother and the new baby for a few minutes dutifully and then said "Thank you for letting me see him, naneth. May I go back to play with the dragon now?"

"That is kind of Eldarion to let you play with his favourite toy," said Éowyn.

I love that. Now that Arwen is coming around, it's Éowyn's turn. :)

A lot was resolved in this chapter. What a nice story.

Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review. I'm delighted you enjoyed this chapter and Elestelle innocently giving the game away! I think there is only one more chapter to come now.

With reason to want to trust the dragon, hopefully Arwen will conquer her fears of Sulion and his fellows! Good for Faramir and Aragorn to have pressed her to trust the dragon as they have learned to do.

Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review. I'm pleased you enjoyed this chapter.

“A nice, polite boy, not at all like his mother,” Súlion agreed.

I agree with him! But Arwen is only reflecting what she's been taught. Now it's time to UN-teach her.

What a lovely illustration of Aragorn with kittens on his chest. *grins*

Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review. I'm pleased you enjoyed Sulion's exchange with Arwen.Yes, she is only acting according to what she has learned over hundreds of years.
I'm pleased you liked Rachel's lovely illustration. I did some rewriting to be able to use it for my story.

A most timely reconciliation, and at least she is now willing to give over her suspicions of Sulion. Take care and God bless, and hope the new year is kind to you and yours.

Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review and for your review at MEFA which helped this story win 1st place and a big thank you for nominating it! I'm pleased you enjoyed Aragorn and Arwen's reconciliation. May God bless you too and this year bring good things for you.

“Why must he risk himself so?” Faramir mused.

“Because he loves.” Arwen replied.

What a lovely chapter to post for the holidays. I'm so relieved that everyone is healing now. Happy Christmas to you, and thank you for the wonderful stories.

I suspect that the dragon will now pay their debt for his rider's healing. Wonderful!
