The Aftermath  by Elanor Silmariën 48 Review(s)
AntaneReviewed Chapter: 12 on 10/26/2007
Another chapter! *dances* Now that is my kindred soul, just so happy to be around books! I love that he had more than one open at a time and that he was thinking of his Sam for that game. Very nice to see Faramir too. Keep it coming! :) *hop hop hop*

*hop hop hop hophop HOP!* This time in excitement for 2, count them 2! more chapters! Seeing Faramir again, throwing that pillow at Pippin, hugging Sam, and the best part - “For now, though, let’s explore the books?” I question, looking at them hopefully.

“All right, we can look at the books now, love,” Sam says, smiling at me as though I’m a child waiting to open his presents at Yule.

He would love that library! I'm surprised he didn't have to be dragged away and left with only one book! You would have thought he'd take a whole stack!

*goes back to hopping and hoping for more*

Too early to hide in a confined place, eh? And interesting he headed for Aragorn's own quarters. At least they've found the library.

Sounds as if they've found a game of Chinese checkers.

Author Reply: Yes, that was actually suggested by Antane and I just kind of went with it. I don't think I'd like hiding in confined places alone after all that happened either. I was really excited to get to them finding the library! I love being in libraries and just had to write about it. You're close, but not quite. They'll have to ask Aragorn to find out what game it is.

An entertaining day they've had, and a second planned of reclaiming childhood.

Sorry, didn't realize I had missed so many chapters here - this is very good about Frodo's fears of entering the tower because of his memories of that *other* tower. He keeps getting all these clues (and so do his three - four - brothers) that all is not well with him. It'll be a culuminating effect that Arwen is going to be able to see clearly - I've wondered how she could see such brokeness but it is another gift that Iluvatar will give His child.

Keeps feeling for the Ring, is he? And he can't quite tell Merry that it's because he misses it and wishes it was still there. Interesting that he wasn't even aware of doing it. Love the end - safe in his brother's arms. :)

Giving over the tension is one of the hardest things, I understand, to coming out of such a terror-filled time. And am pleased that the embrace from Sam helps him feel safe again.

Poor Sam--forced to become what he was born to be after thinking he was ONLY a gardener all these years. And I can certainly appreciate the discomfor Frodo experiences.

It would be something difficult to deal with, the idea of going up in a tower after what he's been through. I had him unable to deal with stone stairs also, so I can certainly appreciate this scene.

I'm glad Frodo was able to enjoy the feast. It was wise of Aragorn to sit the Ring-bearer in between himself and Sam and have a person sitting across who would not trouble the hobbits so about their journey. His concern for them was very endearing too: "Eat what you can, but don’t overdo it. I know it’s been a while, but you are still healing.”

I really liked the part with Merry and I especially loved how you had Frodo unconsciously groping for the Ring. It's become such a habit for him that he doesn't even realize he's doing it, or that his cousin is greatly upset by it.

Merry needs to be more understanding of what Frodo went through, however. By that I mean, that he must realize that in carrying the Ring for so long and at the height of its power, Frodo is not able to just give up all thought of it instantly. He knows on some level that Ring is gone, but it was taken violently from him and Frodo is not yet accepting that the Ring is gone on a sub-conscious level yet. I really would have liked to have heard Frodo's response to Merry's question, to see how he would have handled that. *grin*

I'm looking forward to more, Elanor, and I'm greatly enjoying this tale. I can't wait to see where you head with this.
