Whispers of the Dragon  by shirebound 21 Review(s)

I'm having a wonderful time with this fic. I'm reading it for a MEFA review, and you'll be getting a doozy. And I'm kinda hard to impress!

Thank you for treating Boromir with such understanding. He was truly a noble person, it's just that he had so little experience with such things as magical rings and whatnot, plus, I have this theory that the ring targeted him because it's master knew he was the darling of Gondor, and her people had their hopes pinned on him. To take Boromir would be to rip the very heart out of Middle Earth's last stronghold against Sauron's wickedness. You've done a splendid job with this story, but I'll let you read why I think so in your MEFA review.

I did want to point out, though, that one other was stabbed with a Morgul blade and lived. That was Boromir I, after whom our Boromir was named. He survived, but after 12 years of living in pain from the wound, he became so "shrunken" by the torment that he died far before his alotted years of about 250 years of age, being of Numenorien blood. I thought you might want to know about that and maybe fix it...

It doesn't take away from how great this story is, though. Don't forget to read my MEFA review. I'm sure you'll be pleased.

Author Reply: Wow, thank you, Pipkin! I really appreciate your lovely words here, and also at the MEFA's (which I will rush to read). I like showing Boromir as a "real" person (such as I tried to do in "Avalanche"), and not just a flawed one. I think this was the first long, involved story I tried to write, and it was quite challenging and exciting.

*hugs you*

I love this! It's really a neat look into how the company started getting little "revalations", as you put it. You are a wonderful author...keep posting!! God Bless, Frodo Baggins

LOVING THIS!!! You even have *angst* in it, which you seem to generally avoid (*sigh*...I have been unsucsessful in swaying you to my *dark* side, it seems) this is such a great fic,,I can't wait for more!

Such a good chapter!! Pippin naming Gimli's ax, Sam helping with paddling the boat, dear Frodo starting to realize that his wound will never fully heal. A lot for the Fellowship to deal with.

Wow...What an interesting idea you bring here m'dear. That Frodo would wonder about him really being "cured" by Elrond after feeling the effects of the Nazgul being near. If he's wondering, then Sam's got to be wondering too now.

Oh *no*...I've already got three stories to finish. I don't need another plot bunny streaking my way right now.

Now see what you've done!!!

;oD

I love how Aragorn realized what was going on and to bring Frodo out of his anger. He's right, if anyone in the Fellowship has a right to be cross, it's Frodo. And Boromir's need for the Ring to go to Gondor is showing itself even stronger. It is so bittersweet that a truly noble person w/the best of intentions ended up being corrupted by the Ring. That's true for many though.

Loving this story and looking forward to more. :o)

Yes, I think that at times Frodo, particularly when tired, frightened, and in great pain as he was then, would get angry and had every reason to do so. And we all bless the old Hobbit for making certain Frodo had that protection as he left Rivendell. That Frodo would only realize then that his shoulder could hurt to respond to the presence of the Nazgul is an interesting concept. Glad you thought of having Aragorn point out its advantages.

Giving Gimli's axe a name - Very Pippinish! *g*

Mithril or no, I'm sure that hurt quite a bit." Strider, the master of the understatement!

And Frodo's anger at learning thetruth is a very believable reaction. Great Chapter Shirebound I am really enjoying this. BTW I loved Boromir's reaction too.

First time here and I love this chapter though I see that I have to read this story from the very beginning. Nicely done!

I'm very glad you have gone into detail with the arrow inncident as it seems so rushed in the book. You also give Boromir more reasons for acting as he does and I like the way Sam overcomes his fears.Another enjoyable chapter of a great story.

*frowns* I forgot to leave a review? *frowns deeper* That's not good *slaps hand* Silly me.

You know I love every chapter of yours. I still remember that scene vividly in the book... very good scene, it's a pity it wasn't filmed. It would have been awesome! Can you imagine Legolas shooting the wraith out of the sky? The company struggling to get to the other side? All the arrows all around them? That would have been brilliant.

Well, I am absolutely swamped with homework, and I'm a bit sick... my Thanksgiving was spent with bronchitis -_- Gah, being sick is not fun... no wonder Aragorn hates me *snickers* I'm so evil >:)

Cannot wait for the next chapter! ^^
