| Though this story takes place at Bag End some six months after the events of ‘The Apprentice’ it is not (strictly speaking) a sequel to that story, since I wrote it almost two years before I wrote 'The Apprentice'. ‘The Frequent Visitor’ was inspired by a conversation with my daughter in which we speculated on Frodo’s first meeting with Sam, when Sam was about 9 years old, and Frodo not quite 21 It was my first fanfic.
