Hello there -- I just have to say, beautiful scene! I love the way that the book canon and the movie verse seem to blend together in this story. Very smoothly written with the dialogue and action flowing seamlessly together for a total picture. I just love spending time with these guys . . . my favorite two-dimensional friends . . . thanks for giving us a lovely story.

Author Reply: Thank you for reading this one. I also enjoy spending time with these characters and thanks to everyone on this site, I have so many stories to choose from that there is always something good to read! Thank you for your kind words.

What a beautiful story! I was just thinking that there was a gap in the movie right there! I also wonder how Merry felt about being left behind by Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli. The movie just doesn't have enough about Merry in it.

Author Reply: I thought that of all of the main characters, Merry's part seemed to be missing the most scenes in the film. I remember so clearly all of the frustration that Merry goes through in the book when he isn't allowed to fight and when he feels he is being left behind. I thought that since they went to the trouble to shoot the scene with Aragon coming up after Merry that there just had to be something that was cut that went after that! I am looking forward to the extended DVD as I think that there will be more with Merry. Also, the scene where Pippin finds Merry after the battle? Looks like that has been cut a bit too. Would have liked Houses of Healing. *sigh*
Thank you for your lovely review. Hope we get more of Merry in the DVD.

When I got the author alert, I thought this was a new chapter to Downpour! :-P A very nice story--and as I have not read this one before, I don't have any memory of previous misspellings. Thoroughly enjoyed it! :-)

Author Reply: Thank you! Glad the mis-spellings seem to be forgotten. I had this one on the challenge thing and we weren't to post anywhere else for a while so it just moved here recently. Gald you enjoyed it.

I really cannot tell you just how much I enjoyed reading this. You did an EXCELLENT job of writing Merry's character, and I so loved seeing this extra scene that extends from the movie!! Wonderful.

My best friend and I have a joke that I'm Merry, and she's Pippin, *grin* so that made this is all the more enjoyable to read. "He just had to touch the skeleton!" LOL. So something Merry would say. Great job!

Author Reply: Thank you for the review! Hope your Pippin is less trouble than Merry's. If not, then you have a very busy life! LOL I am glad that you enjoyed this. I really did want there to be a scene with Merry and Aragorn. Still hope there is.

Poor Merry. And poor Aragorn, too. I've never really felt the pain of being separated from someone that close, but through your story I was able to know what Merry was going through. Something along the lines of losing our best dog, only more so. ~_O I hope Pippin doesn't smoke that whole pouch right away. :)

I liked Legolas' quiet, comforting comments. And Gimli is as gentle as ever. ;) Yet another wonderful story from my Shireling. :)

(BTW mellon nin has two l's; and a circumflex (^) over the i if you want to get technical.)

Author Reply: If you liked my Legolas then I am honored as I know you live with an Elf person and so you shoulc know if I've messed him up. Thank you. I would love to do an entire fan fiction with Gimli, but have yet to get the nerve to try. I like him so much and I am afraid that I would not do him justice.

As to the last, I do want to get technical. I will see if my keyboard allows for it and fix this. Thank you, mellon n^in. (seems not to work too well, so may be leaving the ^ off! LOL)

I guess after this you need to write about how Pippin felt, especially about how Merry hasn't fully forgiven him. It's going to be angsty, I know. I admit that I just paid more attention to the other hobbits than Frodo after seeing ROTK. They're all great!

Merry's bitterness here is really disturbing, I mean for himself not for the story. He really felt useless, didn't he? And do you remember when Theoden didn't want him to come with his men? Poor Merry!

Author Reply: I always thought that Merry had the hard part. Sam was with Frodo, Pippin was with Gandalf and Merry, after a very short time, (Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas go to Paths of the Dead) is all on his own among strangers! I also worry about all of the rejection he goes through when he is told he can't go with the riders to battle. Thank goodness for Eowyn! And thank goodness you rea this and reviewed!

Fantastic work! You've managed to fill the gap wonderfully - let's hope that if such a scene *does* end up in the extended DVD it will be as good as yours! I rarely read movie-verse fics, but I thought you managed to blend it well with the book-verse. And my personal favourite part was Aragorn's arguement with Merry over who was really to blame for the incident in Moria. I once left a rather abusive review (yes, I am ashamed for it) for a fic that directly blamed Pippin for Gandalf's death, so I loved the alternatives that Aragorn offered. Thanks for sharing this lovely piece of work!

Author Reply: Thank you so much! I am guessing that if there is a scene on the extended, it will be much better than mine, but I had to have something to fill this in until then.
I can't imagine you leaving a bad review! You have always been so nice to me. Glad you liked Aragorn's answer. Shows there are several ways to look at almost anything. Besides, we all know that Pippin would never hurt anyone! (my favorite hobbit couldn't)LOL
Thank you for this very lovely review.
