Tolkien quote of the day:

‘Look!’ he cried. ‘Gulls! They are flying far inland. A wonder they are to me and a trouble to my heart. Never in all my life had I met them, until we came to Pelargir, and there I heard them crying in the air as we rode to the battle of the ships. Then I stood still, forgetting war in Middle-earth; for their wailing voices spoke to me of the Sea. The Sea! Alas! I have not yet beheld it. But deep in the hearts of all my kindred lies the sea-longing, which it is perilous to stir. Alas! for the gulls. No peace shall I have again under beech or under elm.’

~Complete~ Frodo discovers the first signs of age.

Story inspired by this shirebunny: At Cormallen, or in Minas Tirith, Frodo discovers one effect of the Ring's destruction - a grey hair (or hairs) sprouting on his head. After so many years of Frodo being "well-preserved" by the Ring, compounded by what he went through to destroy it, it seems likely that the aging process would at last show up in him at least a bit.

Arwen reflects on her feelings for Aragorn the evening before his departure from Imladris. This takes place the same evening that Elrond told Aragorn he would wed nor pledge troth to any woman until the time had come and he was found worthy of it. But what was Arwen thinking during all this? This was written for the 500 word challenge, theme #8: Hidden. (Though the added last paragraph puts the count closer to 700 words. Just consider this the Extended Edition of the story.)
