Butterflies and Caterpillars  by Radbooks 6 Review(s)

That was sweet. I'm not usually a fan of fluffy fics, but stories where little Aragorn are loved and taught by so many "father figures" like Glorfindel, the twins or Elrond just makes me smile. It almost compensates in a way for the loss of his father. And the last sentence of this fic kind of sounds as it has a underlying meaning. Good writing

Author Reply: Thank you. Yes, this one does have a very, very special meaning for me as it was written in honor of a friend of mine who was dying from cancer and so the last sentence is definitely a reflection of that. I'm glad you liked it.

This story is adorable and beautifully told. There is something very special about a young child who sees and quesitons the wonders of Nature. Glorfindel, patient and knowledgeable, is the perfect character to teach little Estel. Bravo. I hope to see more like this one.

Aw, just lovely Radbooks. Some things are worth missing a meal for indeed. And some stories worth missing a little sleep for!

Author Reply: Thank you, I'm glad that you enjoyed it. It was fun writing a young Estel story as well as getting my favorite elf into a story! :)

Ah, such a wonderful lesson here, as Aragorn first realizes that things (and people) can begin to change their nature--even things such as caterpillars.

Author Reply: Thank you, Larner. This story was full of double meanings for me, the obvious one with the gentle teaching of Glorfindel to a young Estel and the joy of watching something so simple and yet so beautiful in the safe shelter of someone you love caring embrace.

But on a very personal level for me it was about my very dear friend who is passing from this life and her struggle right now to break free of her cocoon to fly free and no long bound to this earth. It was very good for me to write this in a way that expressed what I was feeling with characters that I love... it has helped.

This is so lovely, I can just see the two of them watching and waiting.
It's indeed not easy to explain to a young child that caterpillars turn in to butterflies, but Glorfindel handled it well ;)

Author Reply: Thank you so much! It is a fascinating thing to watch butterflies come out of their cocoons and children do love to do that - adults too. At the school where I work as a librarian the second grade students have a science project where they raise them and they are always so excited to watch the whole process from caterpillar to butterfly. But I think I would rather watch one with Glorfindel! :)

This is a lovely scene, very calm and peaceful. It's probably been a very long time since Glorfindel thought about his childhood.

Author Reply: Thank you, and I imagine it has been a long time since Glorfindel has thought of his childhood and that specific event. It is good to be around children to remind us of those things once in awhile.
