As the four little ones emerge, I need no introductions to tell me which is the bearer of the burden. Even were it not for the tales of Bilbo and of Mithrandir, I would know him.

Wounded and weary, he would fall if not for his loyal servant. Yet he is like a star, a strong clear light, small but brilliant. A black cloud strives to surround and oppress it, but still the light shines through cracks that the darkness cannot fill.

Such a spirit, I have never seen in mortal frame, throughout the long ages. It will not be extinguished, so long as I can protect it.
