Merry looked around and saw the faces of the others who had heard Gimli's words. He saw Legolas smile sadly as he fingered his bow. He saw Pippin and Sam cast their eyes downward. He saw the looks exchanged between Gandalf and Aragorn, and he saw that Frodo did not look at anyone at all.

He picked up the small silver horn that Éowyn had given him, the horn that she had said would set joy in the hearts of his friends. And he blew, loud and clear.
