When first I met them, in the inn, I thought that if fate had decreed that such small, foolish, alarmingly naive creatures should have the fate of Arda placed in their hands, then Arda was doomed. I dreaded having to be the one to ensure they survived the trek to Rivendell. I believed it a miracle that they had made it as far as Bree.

But this journey has humbled me. It has taught me that love can give stature that cannot be measured, and that innocence can be the fount of strength. And that courage is indeed found in the most unlikely of places.
