Oh dear! I hope there aren't any seriously injured children! But I have a feeling that Elrond is in for a real "eye-opener" as a small friend of his would once have called it. He'll observe his sons in action, as well as get an up-close look at the various advances in mortal technology.
I wonder what's up with Turgon? It sounds like he hasn't done as well as some in re-entering the land of the living.
The rest of the conversation was fun, seeing the various reactions of the newcomers to the news they were hearing. I do look forward to seeing the reactions to the tour of the town and to the various instruments of technology that the first batch of newcomers have only barely had time to get used to yet. And now there is a whole 'nother group of Elves who will have to learn what phones and cars and televisions are.
And Olorin/Gandalf's presence continues to delight me.
Author's reply
Hi Dreamflower. The next couple of chapters will actually be from Elrond's POV as he joins his sons and the other healers at the hospital. Turgon's situation will be addressed later and we will also see the tours and what comes of them. I'm glad Olórin's presence continues to delight you. He's always a joy to write. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

Oh dear, I hope Turgon will behave while he is in Wiseman. But I rather doubt it. In fact, I think I can safely predict that he will be like a recently Reborn (aka trouble magnet) and be the epicenter of at least one major bit of trouble.
Heh. I see that Vorondur is like Finrod in at least one respect, that being never making threats, only promises.
So Ingwë describes himself and his compatriots as being ... persistent ... about coming to the wedding. I am sure that the Valar would describe them as being absolute pests! ;-) Especially Celebríam and Elrond. And surely Galadriel as well. Ingwë has applied the label to himself, you might say, and I'm sure Arafinwë has been rarred with the same brush. And I'm certain a lot of those who were forbidden to go are rather pouty about that, as well as hoping that the next time someone from Valinor goes to Wiseman they will be more ... persuasive. ;-)
So has the Gwyn-and-Mithrellas cat slipped out of the bag? It certainly sounds like it! And it also sounds like nobody have any objections about it!
Hmmm. Wonder how the Wiseman Elves are going to explain computers and the Internet to the visitors?
Author's reply
Hi Sunny. Turgon has issues and we'll see how it goes with him and Glorfindel later. And yes, Vorondur never makes threats, which are useless in the long-run anyway.
Ingwë and the other three kings probably set out to make Manwë's life miserable. Add Elrond, Celebrían, Galadriel and Celeborn into the mix and the Valar were probably glad to get rid of them for a bit. *grin*
As for Gwyn and Mithrellas, that remains to be seen.
Thanks for commenting. It's appreciated.

Its very nice to know that the first batch of Valinorean Elves have adjusted and integrated themselves so well into mortal society, and like it enough, that none of them are eager to take the opportunity to return to the Blessed Realm.
So far not a word from Nell's parents, more particularly Galadriel, about Nell and Gareth. Celeborn seems like a very cool dad to have, but I wonder how the Lady of Light will react. And Glorfindel's remark about potential hostages - and with so many kings and lords present - just seems portentous. I hope that's just his Captain-of-Imladris instincts going into overdrive, but I am not too sure.
Oh, I just can't wait to read the rest of the stories.
Author's reply
It's taken them awhile, but I think they're finally settling in. I think having specific goals has helped. As for Nell's parents, I think they are waiting for a more appropriate time to confront their future son-in-law, probably at the dinner that they've arranged with Alex. I am afraid that given the nature of this story with all its myriad plotlines, some things will be said "offstage" so to speak and we will only hear about them from others. Sorry about that.
As for the talk about hostages, we can hope that Glorfindel is just being his usual paranoid self, but that doesn't mean the threat isn't real or could happen. We'll just have to wait and see.
Thanks for reviewing, Celeth. I'm glad you're looking forward to the rest of the story. I appreciate you letting me know.

I have had this scene running through my head all day of Ingwe being interviewed by an I.N.S agent.
"Ah, erm, Mr. Ingwe is it, can you tell me when and where you were born?"
"well let me think, it must have been about six or seven ages ago on the shores of Cuvinen and I wasn't born, I came from the thought of Eru Illuvitar!"
I.N.S. agent calls for back up and to reserve a padded cell for the delusional gentleman!
I can imagine the head ache just trying to process the arrests of all the Valinorian wedding guests! Oy Vay!
I hope the Maia and Wiseman Elves are able to keep a tight rein on every body other wise it could be a total disaster that would take several ages to sort out! I am not sure just what the Valar are doing allowing so many to leave Valinor, including all the Kings, I trust Ingoldo is under lock and key?
I hope somebody remembers to call the caterers and let them know the wedding party has had a few people added to the guest list!
Waiting for Friday and a few explanations.
Foot is getting better slowly, not being able to stay off it hasn't helped, but it is getting there.

That would be an interesting conversation, wouldn't it? LOL! At any rate, I don't think we need worry about the INS right now. I'm sure the Maiar have everything under control, though that is not to say that interesting things won't happen along the way as we'll see. Thanks for commenting, Lynda. Didn't Nate specifically say somewhere in EA2 that it's not his place to interfere with mortal justice, or that he's not allowed to solve murders for people, or something like that? (I'm too tired to look it up right now, or remember the context).
Author's reply
He may have said something about it, Sasha (and I'm not about to slog through EA2 to find the reference), but I suspect it was to deter the Mortals from seeking to recruit him to solve their crimes for them. However, being a Vala, he is free to do as he sees fit and he didn't so much solve the murders as point the police in the right direction. They had all the evidence; they just didn't know what they were looking at. Michaelson admits that all the evidence pointed to one particular person but he was such an unlikely suspect that no one pursued it ten years earlier.

Oh, this was wonderful! I loved it that Alex showed up and the burgeoning respect that developed towards him once his exploits were put in a context that the Valinorean Elves could understand. Yep, I agree, the Kremlin is most definitely the mortal Angband. I'm suspecting that Turgon hasn't been out of Mandos and Lorien for too long, his behavior seems to be as rash as that of certain other Reborn Elves we know and love once upon a time.
I'd love to be a patron at the cafe at tomorrow night's dinner and I'm looking forward to seeing Derek again. It sounds like it will be fun. Let me see, what other things did I especially like about the chapter? Legolas having been the person to call the cops, Dave Michaelson's calm acceptance of Alex's opinion of the blockade (I think that Dave wouldn't mind having Alex on the force), the description of Alex's t-shirt, Gareth's nickname, The news that Alex is known among the Maiar as "Fionwe's Bane", the reaction of the Valinoreans finding out that Nate is none other than Namo, the list goes on and on.
This was such a treat after a very long and busy Monday at work and class. Thank you, meldonya!

Hi Edlyn. I'm glad you liked this chapter and you pretty much hit upon all the fun parts. LOL! · Chapter 97: Close Encounters of the Mortal Kind
Now, this went reasonably well. Nobody fainted, was injured, or arrested - though Dave Michaelson did threaten to do just that. I don't think he was entirely serious about starting arresting people. The Valar's meddling hands are glaringly obvious here, and I doubt Dave would want to start head-butting with _them_. And as recent arrivals from Valinor the wedding guests would have had no idea where they should have pitched their tents so as to avoid charges of trespassing (and anyway, the Maiar did it for them.)
Oooh, I loved the way Alex just sauntered in, cool as a cucumber, and going all, "Blockade? What blockade? I didn't see no blockade." *sniggers*
So now Alex is being the bogeymann to the new arrivals? I suppose that is reasonable, in its way. Most of the wedding guests would know, or at least know of the Elves in Wiseman, and know, sort of, what they may be capable of. Alex, as a Mortal, is quite another ballgame! And he did manage to take Fionwë down twice, something that certainly would do his reputation no harm among the Elves.
Turgon really needs to lighten up!
So neither the current Elven residents of Wiseman nor the Guardian Maiar will permit any of the visitors to stay? How ... disappointing. *pouts* I was all set to make a mental list, over the next few chapters, over just which Elves that would be all set to dig in their heels and refuse to go when the departure date arrived. Elrond and Celebrían, as well as Serindë's brothers were on top of my incipient list, of course! ;-)
Author's reply
Hi Sunny. I'm sure Dave was merely being facetious. And Alex is very cool the way he saunters in. You're right, that as a Mortal, Alex would be an unknown for the new arrivals and if Glorfindel even admits walking softly around him, that should make them sit up and take notice. Turgon has issues which will be addressed later in the story.
As for the prohibition against any of the visitors staying, that's not strictly true, but the list of those who remain behind will be very short and certain people will not be allowed to stay even if they want to, so go ahead and make your list and see how close you come. *grin*

Just the realization that the Elves came from Wild Lake and considered the journey to town to be a pleasant excursion must have been a shock to Michaelson! And Turgon definitely has a good deal more to think on now. I hope the young Man attending UCLA has not suffered unduly for his early experiences, and that he is a gentler and kinder individual for what he has been through.

Aha! I had a hunch Legolas might have tipped his boss off, though I wasn't sure.
Clearly TPTB have a plan in mind. The wedding date being changed, ostensibly to convenience thei Elves' mortal friends, now takes on a different light: now it puts the wedding close enough to the election that the presence of the extra wedding guests will converge with it. Somehow it appears that Someone wants all this Elven Royalty to be present for this event. Is it to open Elven eyes to the way things have changed? Or mortal eyes to the majesty of the Firstborn? Or both? Or is something altogether unexpected going to occur that will need all to deal with?
I have feeling this will take a while to unfold. In the meantime, I'm looking forward to seeing the immediate aftermath of the "wedding invasion", and especially to the upcoming "dinner party" .
I wonder what the parents (both sets) will make of "Esther"? ; )
Author's reply
Hi Dreamflower. The TPTB ALWAYS have a plan. LOL! And the various theories you put forth are all plausible and even likely. This was a great chapter with lots of first time interactions between mortals and the Elves just arrived from Valinor. Legolas did right by reporting the Elves to Dave, he is getting a good grasp of human law and it may just play against Peterson and his non-Elf diatribe. If they are careful (though I fully doubt that will happen), the Elves can get through the wedding without tearing the town of Wiseman apart.
I really enjoyed Alex's appearance, blockade, what blockade casualness? He is reacting much better to the Elves and seems to be regaining his equilibrium with the world. He certainly didn't hesitate to face off those Elves that questioned his being there. Glorfindel's comment about walking quietly around the human and Oleron's comment about bringing down Fionwe twice and being sword brother among the Maiar will do much to establish Alex in the Elven society.
Looking forward to the meal at the cafe with Nell and her parents and the ap Hywels and the mortals. That is one meeting where I wouldn't mind being the fly on the wall before, during and after. I think that Celeborn and Galadriel will be more accepting of the partial bonding of Nell and Garath than the ap Hywels were. After all, they are definitely two different personalities that created a strong bond.
Now that I have had my Monday morning fix, it is time to get things done around the house. Hope that you have a wonderful week, looking forward to Friday.

This was a touching and deeply amusing chapter. That meeting went far better than it had any right to, given the temperaments involved, LOL! But then, the day is young as they say.
Dozens of Maiar? Yikes! Are they trying to keep the Elves in or the Mortals out? Both? I can't help but wonder how successful they're going to be, threats and promises aside. I had to smirk at the great description of them all vanishing together, it must have smelled like a florist's shop.
The only downside of telling the kings to hush and let Loren do the talking is we don't get to hear much of their thoughts in this one, but hopefully we will in the next chapter. :) It's really cool two of the kings are meeting Mortals for the first time, I imagine they're not the only ones.
I do hope whoever's left running Aman doesn't break the place while all the cats are away in Wiseman, hah!
Dave is awesome, stepping in with his remark in Quenya. And so is Legolas - Liam - he did a great job calling his boss, it will probably prove to be the smartest move he could have made. So much better than the police finding out some other way. It really hits home here how wise and important it is that he be that connection.
Although I have no doubt the Alien Overlords can handle it, I do have to wonder if this might also cause some friction with the college head honchos since technically it's school property.
Love that Nate decided to tip off the cops about that murder. Goodness knows I wish we had a Nate to drop a hint or three about who committed a few unsolved murders in my town. And Alex bringing his A game to the table. Yeah, if he snuck into the Kremlin I imagine getting past some Maiar is not a huge deal. "Fionwë's Bane"! That's priceless (and accurate).
Nice nod to Ron as well. Wonder what his Reborn sons must think of that!
You know, I realize that the people of Wiseman really need a diplomat for Elf-Mortal relations. :P Imagine how much easier it would be if they had a go-to person to show up and work the crowd.
Wonderful chapter, made me look forward to Monday too!

Legolas takes his job very seriously. I hope the fact that he and the other Elves who live there respect the Mortals of Wiseman will make the newcomers think twice before making 'unkind' comments about them.
I loved when the Wiseman Elves and the Maiar warned the newly arrived Elves against pissing Alex off and how he told them off: "Last time I looked, you still have to put your underwear on one leg at a time, just like the rest of us. So, really, there’s nothing special about you at all." That and other things had me smiling right to the end of the chapter.

That went surprisingly well. No tantrums, no physical violence, and no runners. Hi UTfrog. Legolas is showing them all that he is taking his job as a police officer seriously, as one would expect from Thranduilion. And Alex deserves his reputation among the Maiar. I kept reading this chapter for several times. I have to say you never cease to amaze your readers! I think many had anticipated Elrond and Celebrían to show up, among with possible a group of others, including possible Ron's sons and last chapter being a prelude to it.
Seeing all of the Aman kings show up is however quite the surprise. (and a good one for most concerned). And they all speak English, and even normal English it is too!
Speaking of Elrond, I'm glad seeing him here, he'll always be one of my favorite Elves.
And Amarië is there and I don't think Finrod will let her go, and I would not be surprised if she was not willing to leave him again as well. I wonder who else will stay.
How did all the Elves manage to arrive in Wiseman without as much getting noticed? Surely there are Maiar on the watch, (loved seeing Mánatamir again!) but still...
I think so far, Glorfindel could have handled things once he was over the first shock, but Turgon being there was too much of a shock, or should we say surprise? He really feels he's loosing things here and Glorfindel concerned, that is not a good sign.
I loved Ron both handling Glorfindel and Turgon. Finrod's handling of Turgon was perfect as well, the way it was followed b y the phone call to his 'boss'. It also shows Finrod to has come a long way since he came to Wiseman.
As for Turgon, I would have said the process of dying and rebirth would have helped him getting rid of his arrogance. He seemed genuinely happy to meet Glorfindel when welcoming him at first, but I would not be surprised if the later's reaction brought up some old habits again and Ron's treatment of him didn't fell too well as well. And I guess the three Aman kings have seen the attitude quite a few times before judging by their reactions.
And Glorfindel and Turgon will have a lot of things to talk out after the wedding for sure. Let's hope it will help them both.
And on top of it, things have been noticed and the police is showing up to find out what is going on. Now what would the 10-Code for this be?
I'm pretty sure after this, Dave Michaelson can help Glorfindel in founding the 'I hate surprises'-club!
Author's reply
Hi FV_Whisper. There is certainly a lot going on in this chapter and a lot of high emotions as well so a multiple reading is probably a good idea. We will learn in the next chapter how the Elves arrived without anyone noticing and in a subsequent chapter we will learn more about Turgon after he was reborn and learn why he is the way he is.
I don't think there is a 10-Code for this situation. Dave Michaelson will probably have to make one up. LOL!

Wow that was indeed a SURPRISE!!! I should say a GRAND SURPRISE of majestic proportions maybe! I had been hoping that Elrond and Celebrian would be coming, and even Celeborn and Galadriel, but this! All the royal houses of Aman, including the High King...is there anybody left back there?
Poor Glorfindel (I seem to keep saying this), it was too much for him, having to worry about the implications in the socio-political atmosphere of Wiseman, and then meeting Turgon that way...I still remember that time in EI when he stole a horse and went to the Ezellohar to renew his life oath to Turgon. That incident stayed on my mind a long time and I have always wondered what kind of an ellon and a king Turgon was, to inspire such loyalty in Glorfindel. Well now finally we meet him, although under less than ideal circumstances as far as Glorfindel is concerned. Still, I hope we will get to know him better before he returns to Aman, if he does. Based on the first impression he has made so far, it would be difficult for him to adjust to life among the mortals, but then most of them are like that at first.
It is good to meet Elrond again. I have always loved that Elf and I hope to read about him in the next few chapters. And I am happy for Finrod that he gets reunited with Amarie. And oh! Finally Nimrodel gets to show off her ultrasound results, in person hehe.
But with all the drama of Glorfindel and Turgon, there was no time to meet Celeborn and Galadriel. Now that is one meeting I am hoping for. Oh, so many characters I hope to meet again!
And even Manatamir, that master of disguise. I loved the way he traveled with Glorfindel incognito (at first) in EI2.
I am so looking forward to Monday, and all the Mondays and Fridays for the rest of EA3, and even into EA4!
Author's reply

Oh boy, what a surprise. With all that is going on with the election, having this influx of elves and some of their attitudes (Turgon) might not help the cause of the elves. The elf-haters will find a spin on this that will scare the people on the fence to go over to the elf-hater faction.
For once I can understand Glorfindel's reaction. He has a hard enough time to get everything under control under normal circumstances and now with all the kings and entourage flooding into "his" territory, I can feel for him.
I was expecting Elrond and Celebrian and maybe Amarie showing up, but the whole lot was more than I and, I think, our heroes were bargaining for.
What was that about Elu's minstrel? I admit I only have a vague idea who Elu was, but Tristan was his minstrel?
Author's reply
Hi obsidianj. Yes, quite a surprise for them all and there will be consequences with all these people showing up as they have.
Elu is Elu Thingol, king of Doriath, father of Lúthien and Olwë's brother. His minstrel was Daeron. Tristan was born three ages later. I hope that clears things up for you.
