· Chapter 99: Elrond in Oz
I got a good chuckle out of the tittle and was thinking in jest how Olórin could be the Wizard in that case. Quite a surprise to see him show up indeed as well. I wonder if he is hanging around in the hospital as Oliver Grey more often? A hospital seems just like the place where you could find him, giving comfort to others.
This world is all new for Elrond and I loved both his reaction to everything strange, as well as his ability to put aside his marvel and offer help there where it is needed. I think he has the attitude that will help him adjust very soon. And I love it how subtle his strength it and how easily it comes to him: keep the children calm? Just sing a Song of Power for that.
He also does a good job of handling the parents with Olórin and Erica Stillman seems to have her priorities right concerning their daughter and the Elves. Hopefully, more people of Wiseman will consider that after this accident.
It's lovely seeing how proud Elrond is of his children and how he's not above looking to them for guidance. I also think he and Kyle Stoner wil get along well, it seems Elrond has certainly gained his respect in the way he has been handling things.
So Elrod Ronaldson it is. Now Celebrían have to come up with a mortal name and the Ronaldson family is al ready to stay. Now just convince some Powers about that idea....
Author's reply
Hi FV_Whisper. Elrond should do well fitting in once he gets used to things. He has every right to feel proud of his sons and I think you're right that he and Kyle will get along quite well. I'm sure he and Celebrían will have no problems convincing the Powers to let the stay. I have a feeling the Powers are already anticipating the requests of some of the visitors to be able to stay. We'll have to see. Thanks for reviewing. It's very much appreciated.

I'm so relieved that no one died. This glimpse (or maybe more than a glimpse) of Elrond is so telling -- he is wise, and humble, and probably more helpful than he'd give himself credit for.
How his sons must have missed him, over the centuries. I'm glad to see the family reunited, and do hope that Elrond and Celebrian can obtain "permanent visitors" status, and not get sent back with the rest.
As to the accident... and acceptance of the elves by the townspeople... and the upcoming election... Wheels within wheels within wheels. Nice bit of spinning. Looking forward to more.
Author's reply
Hi Lindelea. Yes, it is a relief that none of the children died. I'm glad you enjoyed this glimpse of one of our favorite Elves. Elrond is indeed wise and humble and we'll learn more about his time in Aman in the next chapter when he reveals to his sons what happened during his apprenticeship with Lord Irmo.
There are indeed wheels within wheels within wheels. I'm glad you're looking forward to more. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it.

Elrond in Wonderland... how very apt! I hope he will be allowed to stay, eventually. This word - and Wiseman in particular - could use someone "as kind as summer".
Author's reply
More correctly, Oz, as in the "Wizard of Oz" but the two places are certainly almost synonymous in the minds of many. And yes, they could all use someone "as kind as summer". Thanks for reading and reviewing, Soledad. I appreciate it.

· Chapter 99: Elrond in Oz
Elrond is admirably adaptable in being able to rush off into a completely unfamiliar world and still keep his head. I doubt many, if any of the others could have done that with such aplomb. Not surprised he's so good with the little ones, as he has a huge advantage in having raised at least one and probably more than one Mortal through the ages. He proves to be so helpful and kind as always, and even useful in a way he can't understand yet, as Olórin says. I'm really excited to have him in Wiseman (if he does stay, and I'm guessing he will). There are plenty of people in Wiseman who can forcefully blast their way through rocky situations, but Elrond can be the water to wear down rock, as we see with the Stillmans.
What a horrible accident, certainly it's a good thing that it was all hands on deck.
I admit I have to wonder why, if the Maiar can't help, they brought several dozen warriors to ring around the camp? Or maybe they've designated that as holy ground of a sort, no trouble allowed, and it's the rest of the world that's hands-off?
Elrod the noble counselor, how about that, remove one letter and he's all set! Funny coincidence.
Heh, true, Elrohir's days of running off with his brother are numbered, maybe Glorfindel will feel a little bit of relief when he gets to hand the reins over to Serindë. He's her problem now. *grin*
Did you enjoy Yule in the barony? I'm more of a Charlie Brown Christmas girl, but that sounds like a lot of fun. Hope you have a great week, looking forward to more Elrond in the next chapter!
-Kevana
Author's reply
Hi Kevana. Well, I think it helps that he is actually returning to his birth world, so to speak, having been born in Middle-earth rather than in Valinor. So, I suspect he feels as if he's come home in a way. The Maiar are there to protect the encampment, but if the Elves venture forth from there then they are essentially on their own. Although, as we will see later on, that's not strictly true. The Valar are quite free to change the rules to suit themselves. *grin*
Anyway, I guess Elrohir's days of running off with his brother are indeed numbered, unless Serindë joins them. *grin*
I had a lovely time at the Yule festivities, thank you. Beside having venison stew, I got to try bear meatballs (from a real bear, btw,) with lingonberry sauce and also elk! as well as salmon. All typical Norse fare (it was a Norse-themed event).
Thanks for commenting. I appreciate you taking the time to do so.

"Elrond in Oz," indeed! LOL! In fact, he must have felt as if he'd stepped into the Twilight Zone. =)
The parents of those injured children are very fortunate, even though at least certain ones don't recognize it. Elrond's Song of Power was able to calm the children down. What did is something no mortal doctor would be able to do.
Elrond's got a lot to learn about the advances of medicine since his previous time on earth, doesn't he? He is, indeed, a master healer in his own right, and he has trained other master healers such as his sons and Aragorn, but modern medicine is something he knows nothing about. He's going to have to learn about germs, for one thing: what they are, how they cause disease, and how the body fights them.
One thing's for sure: if Elrond does stay, he won't be able to set up a retreat such as he had in Rivendell. He'll have to learn how to live in the modern world, and to do what he can to keep evil at bay without the aid of an Elvish Ring of Power. (At least, he won't have to worry about orcs or Ringwraiths anymore! =))
Author's reply
Hi KathyG. Elrond does have much to learn but he has much to teach as well, so it'll be a good trad-off. And I think he knows all about germs and such. Elvish medicine is quite advanced after all these ages and Elvish medical techniques are very effective and less invasive than most mortal medical techniques. Still, they don't have the same need to know about diseases that we have to deal with. At any rate, you're right that he will have to learn to live more closely with the Mortals if he stays. Edhellond will be as close to Imladris as he will ever get now, I think.
Thanks for taking the time to review. I much appreciate it.

I love seeing this through Elrond's eyes! What a perfect title for this chapter. To see his wonder and amazement at the modern world mortals have devised was such fun.
I liked the encounter with the Stillmans; clearly the missus has a lot more sense than her husband, and her priorities straight. Hopefully she will be able to influence his opinions. This event is going to polarize the community even more, but the help from the Elves is definitely going to sway a lot of the fence sitters.
Oliver Grey is such a good name for Olorin/Gandalf. And he was truly very helpful, but I think my favorite part was the Song that he used to calm the roomful of frightened parents and children. Truly a beautiful moment!
Elrond is going to have a lot to process. But I do hope he and Celebrian are going to be allowed to stay with their sons.
Author's reply
Hi Dreamflower. I thought the title appropriate. Glad you liked it. We'll see more of the Stillmans in the next chapter and their reactions to the three Elves as they check on the Stillmans' daughter.
I'm glad you like Olórin's mortal name. However, he didn't do the singing to calm the children; that was Elrond. Olórin just directed the parents to where their children could be found.
Anyway, Elrond does indeed have a lot to process and we'll see how things go with him and Celebrían. I doubt they will return to Valinor without a fight, not after being reunited with their sons after so long.
Thanks for leaving a comment. I appreciate it very much.

Lots of strange things for Elrond to see and experience in the modern world. I supect he feels as if he has fallen down the rabbit hole! ;-) And even though Elrond wasn't permitted to actually treat any of the accident victims, he was certainly useful when it came to calming the distraught children.
I see Elrond is already preparing to dig in his heels in preparation for the departure of the Valinorean wedding guests. And I suspect Celebrían is going to dig in her heels as right next to him, especially if she thinks tht there just might be daerelflings coming along in a few years!
Author's reply
Yes, it has to be very strange for him and even frightening on one level, but I'm sure he'll adapt soon enough as will Celebrían. I doubt either of them will go back to Valinor now that they are reunited with their sons. That's one battle the Valar will be wise to concede. *grin* Thanks for reviewing, Sunny. Thank you so much for that detailed story from Elrond's POV. I was so looking forward to reading about his impressions of the modern mortal world and being reunited with his twin sons, but i didn't have much hope since there are so many arrivals and more important ones at that.
And indeed, I hope that the Valar will allow him and Celebrian to stay. His family has been in imcomplete for far too long. If nothing else, he will be a good healer and the need for healers is greater here than in the Blessed Realm especially when the war comes. Maybe the Elves can now set up their own clinic! Some Mortals may not be willing to have Elven physicians touch their kids, but Mrs. Stillman is right. And I'd prefer Elven healers any day of the week haha.
Author's reply
Hi Celeth. I'm glad you liked the detail from Elrond's POV and we'll continue with him and his sons in the next chapter. I know many readers were anxious to see him reunited with his sons so I decided to devote a couple of chapters with him and we'll see him off-and-on throughout the rest of this story, never fear.
I have the feeling the Valar will have no choice but to allow Elrond and Celebrían to remain as it's unlikely Elladan and Elrohir will want to return to Valinor with them; their lives are here in Middle-earth and they have no intentions of giving up their dreams. And as you point out, they will need all the healers they can find especially when the war comes. We'll have to see how it all falls out.
Thanks for reviewing. It's much appreciated.

Good to see that everybody was taken care of and that their were no fatalities.
See I said, if nothing else Elrond would be able to help keep the children and parents calm.

Hi Lynda. I wouldn't complain either, but some people are naturally difficult just to be difficult. We'll see some more of the Stillmans in the next chapter. And you were right about what Elrond would be able to do when it would be unlikely he would actually be allowed to treat anyone.

· Chapter 98: Getting Reacquainted
Ahh, there's quite some talking going on here, which is good, since there are many things that need our Elves attention.
Too bad Sador didn't come along, I'm sure Glorfindel would have liked that.
Turgon really isn't at his best here. I think the Elves from Aman can tell quite a few stories about that (as a matter of fact I think Galadriel would be happy to do so). I love it how Ron isn't taking non of Turgon's arrogance. And is right, he only makes promises. Turgon should be rather afraid of him if he has the common sense for it.
I think it would be good for Glorfindel and him to have a long talk and see what comes out of that. In the mean time, I hope there will be an extra Maia on watch on him, Turgon being loose in the current situation in Wiseman isn't the wisest thing to have around.
*grins at the mental image of Turgon being taking away in a straightjacket and Ron walking behind him*
It's great to hear the first group of the Valinorian Elves have adapted themselves so much they all want to stay. It's a good sign and they've come a long way for it.
I wonder who of the newcomers will stay in the end too, I don't think Finrod is very willing to let Amarië go, and I think Amarië wasn't already very willing to see Finrod going back and leaving her behind for a second time, she will not be willing to let him go either.
Ah, I think some Elves gave the Valar a good time pestering them around for the wedding. If you take into account, Elrond and Celebrían, teamed up with Galadriel and Celeborn, that's one force to be reckoned with. Add in the three amigo's, ehr, I mean high kings and you can say the Valar indeed had a slight problem. I wonder whether Finrod's outburst to Oromë and Tulkas had something to do with them deciding the Elves where to go after all.
Thinking of the Elves arrival, is Eärendil merely acting as the inter dimensional travel agent or has he turned up for his grandson's wedding as well?
I had to grin at the thing going on between ehh Gary (lol) and Nell, as well as the comments on it. And it seems like Misty and Gwyn didn't go unnoticed to. Let's hope for Daeron he can get the rose petals and bridal bower ready soon.
Ah Elrond, how I love that ellon. I'm so looking forward seeing him back in the new Hobbit movie as well (he and Glorfindel were wise enough to stop fighting over the favor of being my favorite Elf long ago and are just sharing first place. Thranduil is sneaking up from behind, though). I'm very happy how some chapters from his pov are coming up, I think he will be in for a real eye-opener when it comes to mortal medicine, see what is sons are doing and I'm pretty sure he will be able to make himself useful too, or else Olórin would not have permitted him to come along too.
I also think at some point Elrond will seek out Alex to have a talk with him.Would be very interesting to see how Akex, who is slowly beginning to accept his heritage will react on this.
I guess I will leave things for now, before the reply becomes actually longer than the chapter itself lol Needless to say I greatly enjoyed it.
Author's reply
Hi FV_Whisper. Yes, it's too bad Sador didn't come but there is a reason why he didn't. I'm sure the Elves were very good at pestering the Valar enough that the Valar were glad to see them go, if only for a short while. Eärendil will not be at the wedding, unfortunately, since he would not have come without Elwing and she would not come, also it would've been tough to hide the ship even in the wilderness for that length of time.
Elrond will have front billing in a few chapters and we'll see how he and Celebrían deal with things in the modern world.

· Chapter 97: Close Encounters of the Mortal Kind
Had to giggle at the tittle already. And thinking about it, for many of the new arrivals, this is their first encounter with Mortals, including two of the three kings.
So it was Legolas who alerted the police. I think that tells quite a thing about him, like how he takes on his duties. But also how he doesn't mind seeing his Mortal superiors as his real superiors, even in the company of the three Aman kings. I do not think many of the Elves residing in Wiseman, not even the perfect law abiding ones, would in their hearts really place Dave Michaelson above the Aman rulers.
And speaking of the latter, Dave is splendid as always. He's such a great character, at one point there's no doubt he's a friend and ally of these Elves, but he's also not allowing himself to become their running boy, so to speak of. Him understanding and speaking Quenya was excellent and quite a surprise for the kings. And I think Dave is so glad having taking those courses now.
Only an Elf can call a walk from Wild Lake to Wiseman a excursion for sure. I guess after the apathy of Aman, most of the newcomers Elves did indeed welcome such a thing as a most pleasant change.
I wonder who of the new coming Elves will eventually stay despite everything. I have a feeling some will still insist to stay behind.
The flower scent coming from all the Maiar fading from view must have been quite a thing. And speaking of Maiar..Alex as Fionwë’s Bane lol! Him just sneaking into the Kremlin adds up to both his spy and coolness factor I would say. As does him being a sword brother to the Maiar twins as well.
The Elves being there during the time of the elections is a most interesting things and one can wonder wether this was one of the reasons the wedding taking place now as it is. I think both Mortal's and Elves will have some lessons that will need to be learned during this period.
Alex inviting both the ap Hywels, and Nells parents over to dinner is going to be most interesting. Has the poor Man any idea who's he's just been inviting?
Author's reply
Hi FV_Whisper. Legolas has certainly shown where his loyalties lie now with his contacting Michaelson, who continues being cool. Alex remains is usual cool self as well with his dismissal of the police blockade. Obviously, he's way above them there. We'll see how things go with everyone between the wedding and the elections and Alex probably doesn't care who he's invited to dinner. That's just the sort of person he is.

So, none of the first bunch of Valinorean elves wants to go back. What is with the women?
Ron will be teaching at the academy. That is great. Seems like undesirable elements are slowly but surely eliminated.
I love it that Elrond joins the healers to treat the children. In an emergency every hand helps. I hope he will be among those that will stay in Wiseman, but then Celebrian also needs to stay. They were apart for too long in my mind.
I just hope the injuries of the children in the accident will not be too severe or at least nothing that can't be healed.

Well, there weren't as many ellith who came, but we know that Nell is busy at college, Linda is involved in the clothing store with her husband, Anna and Daeron seem to have a thing going and Helyanwë and Glorfindel appear to be okay as well, so it looks as if they're in as well. I love this chapter. The meeting between police and elves went better than I feared. Luckily Dave is a cool police chief. Loved his comment in Quenya. That shut up some people right there. Legolas did the right think in calling his boss. Dave had time to come to terms with the news before he saw how many there were and he now knows that Legolas is serious about his job.
Alex was great. Fionwe's bane? LOL! But true. That should get him the respect or at least some acceptance from most of the visitors.
What is with Turgon? What bothers him?
I loved the way Glorfindel and Finrod took command and told everyone what to do. Let's hope all the warnings and Maiar sentinels will keep the peace.
Author's reply
Hi obsidianj. Dave is certainly cool and I'm sure he appreciated the heads up from Legolas. Alex is... Alex and even the Elves need to respect that. If even Glorfindel says he walks carefully around him, that has to tell them something about the Mortal. As for Turgon, we'll learn more about what's up with him later on. First off - we get Elrond POV chapters?! Yesssss! I'm thrilled! He was my favorite Elf in the Hobbit and LOTR. Finrod edges him out just a hair as my favorite Elf of all time. I'm excited to see what happens with him. There's just something about him I have always loved. His strength and wisdom and kindness coupled with the warrior in him, even though he set that aside. If I were in an accident, I know I would want him there, so I'm sure he will prove to be very helpful for the children and their parents.
Now back to the actual chapter, LOL -
I look forward to seeing what happens when Turgon and Glorfindel finally have their airing of grievances, as it certainly has my wheels turning.
It sounds like the Valar and the Elves had a hard time working out an arrangement that would let the Elves attend the wedding. It would not surprise me if that was what the problem that Oromë mentioned was about. I can understand the fear but if they have dozens of Maiar around, wouldn't that protect them? Or are the Maiar operating in "hands-off" mode and can't interfere?
Whatever the case, I just imagine how much fun it would be to drag a confused Elf around on a tour. I hope they do get to see a little of the world. I'm not even going to guess what's going to happen with the election, but it feels like a storm is coming.
It's good to see that all the new-Wiseman Elves have decided to stay. I wasn't sure about a few of them! For the next two weeks, they're no longer the new kids, I hope they enjoy it.
I'm curious as to who ends up staying, probably selfish of me to hope Elrond will be among them, but I'm hoping anyway! I just have a feeling some will regardless of the threats, but we were see.
I'm getting a little worried for Peterson, if he really had nothing to do with the bomb attempt then some powerful forces are mixed in his camp and those forces tend not to have a use for their toadies once they fail.
Wondering if the kings will see mortals at their worst, Ron clearly has. Sad.
Hope the kids are okay, buses are built like tanks and I have even seen a guy fleeing from the SBI crash head-on into one while doing 80 mph and believe me he came out the loser in that one.
Ironically I think we are in full moon phase now aren't we? I'd love to know what Tilion would say to the full moon syndrome, haha.
Such a good chapter! Hope your weekend is awesome!
-Kevana
Author's reply
Hi Kevana. Yes, Elrond pov chapters coming up all next week. I'm sure you and everyone else will get a kick out of them. Elrond was always my favorite Elf until I met Finrod and Glorfindel, so he's my second favorite Elf (Finrod and Glorfindel tie for first), but it's a very close second.
I suspect that the "little problem" Oromë mentioned was the three High Kings and everyone else importuning the Valar for a chance to go to the wedding. The question of protection and the role of the Maiar in all this will be addressed in a later chapter.
And all the Elves who have resided in Middle-earth have seen Mortals at the worst but also at their best and, let face it, the Elves can't claim to be lily-white souls either.
We'll see in the next couple chapters how the children fared.
And you're right, it is the full moon this weekend. Sometimes the heavens line up perfectly. LOL!
Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter. Have an awesome weekend yourself. I'll be spending part of mine in the middle ages celebrating Yule in the barony. Should be fun.

The visitor Elves are learning a lot about what has been happening to the Elves who did not sail. I am sure you will have them seeing a lot more as they tour Wiseman and interact with the mortals. I hope that the three pastors will get the chance to meet the kings. The interaction between the two groups would be interesting to say the least. And even a confrontation with the anti-Elf group might benefit the Elves and those who are still on the fence about what groups to support.
I am also glad that the original Elves who came with Finrod now seem to be settling into Mortal society. It sounds like the plans for the Elves to become Rangers has progressed nicely. I could see some of them in the future chasing down some criminal who thinks that they can hide in the wilderness while creating havoc. Hiding from an Elf would be a hopeless task I would expect.
I also hope that the children from the bus accident can be helped by the doctors. Though Elrond is not a recognized medical doctor, his ability to calm and heal should help little ones who have to be terrified of their ordeal. Even helping the parents as they try to find out what has happened to their children will be necessary.
It sounds like the next couple chapters will be packed with things going on between the Elves and the Mortals. Even when people are not running around dealing with emergencies, your chapters are well written and contain a lot of information to help progress the story.
Hope that you have a wonderful weekend. Looking forward to Monday.

Hi rikki. Yes, they are learning a lot and they will learn a lot more during their stay in Wiseman. There will be several kinds of confrontations and meetings between them and the Mortals as you will see in subsequent chapters. The Elves who originally came with Finrod appear to be finding their way now that many of them have specific goals to aim for, such as becoming board certified doctors and rangers.
We will see in what capacity Elrond is able to help at the hospital over the next couple of chapters and yes, the chapters that follow this one are jam-packed with excitement of one kind or another. I am glad you find my chapters well written and informative. Thanks for taking the time to leave a review and letting me know. I appreciate it very much. Have a great weekend yourself.

I just hope the Elrond will be permitted to use his healing skills on behalf of the injured. We know that he's a great healer, but since he never went to medical school, he may not be recognized as such by the hospital staff.

Hi KathyG. We'll see in what capacity Elrond is able to help out. It's true that without a recognized medical degree he would not be allowed to actually do medicine, but he will be able to help in his own way. Thanks for reviewing. It's appreciated.
