Fascinating conversation with Namo. I think this time he didn't frighten the little ones but the parents. I like it how Elrond and his sons are catching up to each others history while going about helping the patients. I hope the Stillman's thaw will last. They might not become elf lovers, but at least they should respect the elves and acknowledge that they are useful to the community.

Author's reply

I'm glad you found the conversation with Námo fascinating, obsidianj. And Námo would never deliberately frighten the little ones. Adults, however, are fair game. *grin* Anyway, you're right that even if they never become Elf lovers, at least if they don't continue being Elf haters, that's a step in the right direction. And actually, I don't think Erica Stillman has ever been an Elf hater. George, on the other hand, really needs an attitude adjustment and hopefully what happened in ICU will help him see the light, so to speak. Thanks for reading and reviewing. It's much appreciated.

obsidianj · 13 December 2014 · Chapter 99: Elrond in Oz

I loved the title. It captured Elrond's reaction in a nutshell. I hope he can stay. Having a healer that can invoke songs of power would be a real asset. I know Finrod can do it too, but I got the feeling he is too much occupied with other things. The Stillers are quite something, especially George. At least his wife has a better sense of priorities.

Author's reply

Hi obsidianj. I thought the title was apropos. Actually, Elrond isn't the only healer who can invoke Songs of Power, he's just the only one so far, other than Finrod, to have done so. Any of the healers from Valinor are capable of Songs of Power, they just haven't needed to use them lately. Anyway, thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

Eruherdiriel · 13 December 2014 · Chapter 100: Crisis in ICU

I think that George Stillman is going to be more welcoming now. Poor Janey. I enjoyed this bit from Elrond's POV. ~Eruherdiriel

Author's reply

Hopefully so, Eruherdiriel. I'm glad you enjoyed this from Elrond's POV. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it.

Larner · 12 December 2014 · Chapter 100: Crisis in ICU

As I'm reading Judy Picoult's "Lone Wolf" at the moment I've been hearing a lot of discussion about the ethics of end of life decisions. I am glad that Mr. Anderson went happily and accepting of Namo's company. Glad to see Mr. Stillman losing more of his bigotry, and Mrs. Stillman realizing she will fight anyone, even Death himself, for her daughter.

Author's reply

As Námo said, Mr. Anderson was looking forward to seeing his wife and son again and he was ready to go. And hopefully, Mr. Stillman will be more accepting of the Elves after this. As for Mrs. Stillman, I don't know any mother who wouldn't fight even Death himself for their children. Thanks for reviewing, Larner. It's appreciated.

rikki · 12 December 2014 · Chapter 100: Crisis in ICU

Congratulations on reaching the 100th chapter! I know, still more to go, but that is a lot of writing. This was another wonderful chapter with Elrond and the twins, though the situation got scary there for a while. Looking ahead, I am very interested to see Elrond meet Alex and see how they get along. I can remember reading earlier about the anger that the twins felt towards Vardamir and Earnur when they found out that Elrond had spent part of his first years in Aman being an apprentice healer under Lord Irmo. Hearing him tell the tale I think has caused them to think about what was sacrificed and what was gained by Elrond. His sons have to be as proud of him as Elrond is proud of his sons. And it seems that Elrond is coming in handy with handling the children when there is a crisis as well as handling the parents. One could consider Namo showing up in ICU as a bad thing, but his presence was needed when the child crashed. Without him to control the Stillmans it would have been a fight to treat the child while fending off her father. Those poor parents have had a bad fright. Knowing that the twins were instrumental in her recovery should definitely cause the parents to do a lot of thinking about their behavior towards Elves. All is not black and white. I am sad about Mr. Anderson, but it sounds like he was willing to go to his wife and sons. I hope you have a great weekend. Looking forward to Monday's chapter.

Author's reply

Thanks, rikki. Considering that Elf Academy 1 is only 20 chapters long, Elf Academy 3 will end up being 6 times longer! Anyway, I think Elrond telling his story to his sons and feeling no resentment for what happened and even finding the humor in it has helped the Twins to come to terms with things pertaining to their father. Hopefully, the Elves saving the child will go a long way towards diffusing any resentment that Mr. Stillman has against the Elves. As for Mr. Anderson, his time was upon him and at least he accepted It and looked forward to being reunited with his family. Have a great weekend yourself. Thanks for leaving a comment. I appreciate it very much.

Lindelea · 12 December 2014 · Chapter 100: Crisis in ICU

Amazing, how Mrs. Stillman recognised Namo as the Angel of Death. And Mr. Stillman's attitude certainly turned around in the course of the chapter, didn't it? (Rhetorically speaking.) I have the feeling he will be a powerful ally at some point in future.

Author's reply

Well, dressed as he was, I'm not surprised, Lindelea. At any rate, we will hope that Mr. Stillman's negative attitude toward the Elves has become more positive and not as antagonistic. Thanks for the review. It's much appreciated.

Kevana · 12 December 2014 · Chapter 100: Crisis in ICU

We've hit chapter 100! Congrats on all the hard writing work it took to get here. So Irmo was going to let Elrond catch a ride back to Rivendell rather than fight with him, LOL, very wise. I'm glad he was able to work through it and stay. I suspect that the young healer with specific opinions on willow bark preparation probably got a lesson in humility too. That's too funny, I can just picture Elrond standing there for ten minutes with his eyebrows going higher and higher and the kid completely oblivious. Someone should hand him a bottle of coated aspirin to show we managed to get rid of the bad taste, now there's an innovation. I have to admit, even knowing he's a 1000% good guy, if I were in ICU with my child and Námo showed up, my first reaction would probably be "Get out!" (and some four-letter words I would later be glad my child was not awake to hear). Reason goes out the window when your kids are hurt. So I certainly sympathize with Erica, even as I feel bad for the poor guy for getting whomped on by an angry, frightened mama. I'm sure it does get old, even though I imagine Námo understands better than anybody why people fight him. Eh, at least he didn't get stabbed this time. :P Sidenote: someone needs to dare him to show up to the next Halloween party in costume as the Grim Reaper. George though, yeah dude, you're being a bigot. It can be so hard to get people to question their internalized racism or even accept that it might be there. Looks like the Peredhil family has put a great big dent in that attitude though, and rightfully so. Glad the little one is going to make it, even though she has a hard road ahead. If the visiting Elves brought any other healers with them, I'm sure they're going to be rabid for details when Elrond goes back to the pavilion. I have a feeling a lot of people are going to be demanding field trips soon, but it's almost time for the wedding (and election)! Exciting times ahead. I'm hoping to go see the lights and carolers in a local botanical garden tomorrow, otherwise I'll be yelling dragons to death in Skyrim. Have a great weekend! Thanks for the update. -Kevana

Author's reply

Hi Kevana. Thank you and there are still many more chapters to go before we get to the end of this story, though not the end of the series, not yet at any rate. You paint a funny picture of Elrond and the young healer. LOL! Yes, he would definitely stand there with his eyebrows on stun. The poor child probably stood there gaping like a fish out of water when Elrond just turned and walked away without saying a word. Anyway, George is a bigot, but he's capable of learning and I think what happened in ICU has opened his eyes a bit to reality. Hopefully, he'll start rethinking certain cherished truths. Enjoy your weekend however you spend it. Since today is the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, some friends and I are getting together this evening for a Mexican Christmas dinner. Olé! Thanks for reviewing. It's much appreciated.

Sunny · 12 December 2014 · Chapter 100: Crisis in ICU

The three peredhil certainly make a good healer team! And with the twins' meld of Elven healing and knowledge of modern medical technique combined with their father's abilities honed by Irmo, they seem to be able to effect near miracles. It looks as if the Elves may have moved from the "scary aliens" classificatio to "people" in the Stillmans' minds. And I think it was mainly parental commisseration over children's hijinks that did it. Of course, saving Janey's life did not harm the Elves' cause, either, not did the information that Valinorean healing techniques could ameliorate her brain damage. Oh dear - Námo got attacked again? But I suppose he must be used to it by now. *shakes head* He really needs to talk to a fashion consultant. His goth style seems to disturb his customers, or, in this case, the, um, innocent bystanders.

Author's reply

Hi Sunny. Yes, they do make a good team and I think once the Twins return from their surgical studies, the three will make an awesome team. Námo, I think enjoys being attacked or maybe he's just used to after having many of the denizens of Mandos attacking him for some reason or another. Thanks for commenting. I appreciate it very much.

6336 · 12 December 2014 · Chapter 100: Crisis in ICU

Hopefully the Stillmans will now have a better understanding of Elves, having watched three of them save their daughters life. The brain is amazing in how it can relearn how to do things and get other parts of itself to compensate for damaged areas, if the Elves can encourage Janey's brain to heal itself all the better for her. I wonder if, in the future, when the Twins have their surgery training under their belts, they might give some thought to a spinal cord injury clinic, just think what they could do. I am wondering if one of Irmo's reasons for not testing Elrond when he first arrived was to see just how he would handle being taught by a wet behind the ears Elfling who had escaped from his Nanas apron strings. If he would just meekly take it then he was not the Elf Irmo thought he was. I think if Irmo had approached Elrond with the premise that he was a good healer but that there were techniques he was lacking Elrond might have been more receptive. Though I think Irmo had a very good idea of just what Elrond knew, being who and what he is! Plus I think there were things that Elrond could teach them, which I think was a shock to some of them. Well it is raining here, coming down quite heavily, I wish it had come some what earlier, as it is about 7-30 a.m., right in the middle of rush hour and they don't know how to drive in the rain here! Come to think of it they don't know how to drive when the roads are dry either! Oh well. Off to put out the buckets, the patio roof leaks, dry off the cat, she is not happy about the rain and see if my tea is brewed! Friday Huggs, Lynda

Author's reply

Hi Lynda. Hopefully that is true about the Stillmans. Only time will tell. I have a feeling that what you say about Irmo and his treatment of Elrond is pretty close to the truth. I think if Irmo had come to Elrond the way you describe, Elrond may still have balked at the idea of being an apprentice, but who can say. The end result is that Elrond did agree to be Irmo's apprentice and learned much about the healing arts that he didn't know or only suspected, but at the same time was able to impart to the Amanian healers his own hard-earned knowledge of the healing arts. Well, it's been snowing here. I would frankly take rain over snow any day of the week, as long as the rain doesn't turn into a flood. Keep dry. Thanks for reviewing. Friday hugs back.

Dreamflower · 12 December 2014 · Chapter 100: Crisis in ICU

Well, well, well. I have a feeling that the Stillmans may have a lot to think about. I have to say, I appreciated both the realism and the irony of the mother's reactions to Namo: realistic because it was her maternal instincts kicking in to protect her little one, and yet ironic--calling Namo a monster only a moment after chastising her husband for being a bigot. Yet her fear was not totally unfounded, since she knew Namo's calling, only unfounded in not understanding it. And George Stillman will have a lot to think about. I'm glad Janey will be all right.

Author's reply

Hi Dreamflower. I imagine they will and hopefully they or at least George will see the Elves in a whole new light. I'm glad you found Erica's reaction to Námo both realistic and ironic. I thought it was too as well as being rather funny the way she beat up on him. I think he gets a bit tired of that after awhile. *grin* Thanks for leaving a review. It's very much appreciated.

UTfrog · 12 December 2014 · Chapter 100: Crisis in ICU

A very powerful and great chapter. Lord Namo does have a way about him to calm just about anything. Loved Elrond's continuing interactions with his sons and his new insights on how they and this new world have changed. Thank you.

Author's reply

I'm glad you found the chapter powerful, UTfrog. Lord Námo does have a way with him and he's able to take people's reactions to him with humor, which helps, I think. Elrond is having a ball being with his sons again and helping them out. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

Laer · 12 December 2014 · Chapter 100: Crisis in ICU

Poor Namo, he gets such a bad rap. I am glad they were able to save Janey tho. And I am sure it will help them all in the long run to understand the elves aren't evil. Well, off to surgery so this will give me a "happy place" to go to. I won't have the twins or Elrond there for real, but maybe I will for a bit, depending on the drugs they give me. LOL ;)

Author's reply

Hi Laer. A friend of mine who's a rabid Tolkien fan went in for surgery and after she'd been doped up, before they put her under, the doctor asked if she trusted him and she said, quite truthfully, "No, because you're not Elrond of Rivendell". LOL! The doctor and nurses got a kick out of that. Anyway, I'm sure the Mortals of Wiseman interacting with "Nate" will be less fearful when they have to interact with Lord Námo when that day comes. Thanks for taking the time to read and review. Good luck with your surgery.

Amony · 12 December 2014 · Chapter 100: Crisis in ICU

"And I am not a monster. Not even close. Just ask my wife" :D poor Námo, though how did they know that he was the vala of death?? as far as I read, only very few of the mortals knew that he was the angel of death while the others only knew him to be an archangel. And what do we ask your wife??? :D poor Janey as well, to suffer such trauma at such a young age :( Elrond SHOULD be proud of his sons. Irmo is indeed good at what he does, brought pride to his family :D :D :D “You used to curse my name fighting for the lives of your patients,” Námo replied. Well this is the first time I hear of it, usually they pray for him to mercy the patients, not curse him and surely NOT ELROND doing so. All in all, it was a great chapter :D :D Waiting for the new :D :D

Author's reply

Hi Amony. Well, Námo's been hanging around Wiseman for quite some time now and I'm sure the Elves have explained just who he is and what he does, so even the Stillmans would know about him, especially dressed the way he was. As for what they should ask Vairë, that should be obvious: whether or not Námo is a monster. And I'm sure Elrond fought for the lives of his patient just as hard as any healer. The Elves are not angels or even saints and Elrond is very passionate. I doubt he was always polite. After all, he is also a warrior as well as a healer. Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter and are looking forward to the next one. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it.

Celeth · 12 December 2014 · Chapter 100: Crisis in ICU

Oh help! How does one edit a review after its posted? I can't find anything that says EDIT. Anyway, I meant contraptions, not contractions, in my earlier review. I tried to proofread before posting, but that totally escaped me. And it makes me think of pregnant women in the OBGYNE section, totally out of context. I'm sorry.

Author's reply

I know you can review before you post but not afterwards. Thanks for the clarification, though. I appreciate it. Sometimes I can sort of figure out what people were trying to say in spite of misspellings and wrong words altogether, but it does help to have corrections at times.

Celeth · 12 December 2014 · Chapter 100: Crisis in ICU

That moment when Elrond said how proud he was of his sons brought tears to my eyes. I can't imagine how much he must have missed his children. Living in the perfection of Aman could not have been all that wonderful for him while missing Arwen and always wondering how his sons were faring amidst the dangers and uncertainties of Middle Earth. Being with them again...how happy he must be right now. And I can only imagine how fascinated he must be with all those strange contractions and injections and medical instruments...so totally different from Lorien... Its nice to know that the Stillmans have now thawed considerably towards the Elves, with a little help from Lord Namo. I can't believe I'm actually looking forward to Monday, but I am, or more specifically, to the next chapter!

Author's reply

Hi Celeth. I'm sure Elrond often wondered how his sons fared as well as his daughter's descendants. At least now he can see them in action and that has to be a balm to his soul. And yes, I'm sure he's very fascinated by all the medical instruments the Mortals have devised and he's probably itching to get his hands on some of it and play. *grin* And hopefully the Stillmans will come around. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 12 December 2014 · Chapter 100: Crisis in ICU

Atya, I know I have plenty of chapters to play catch-up on but I want you to know I have read them all and am loving the way the story is progressing. This chapter has - the last few have, really - been immensely interesting to me, considering I just came home from the hospital myself. Bladder issues. Grr. Anyway. I wish I had Elrond and the Twins as my healers! The Stillmans were definitely seeing a new light when Namo showed up in all his glory. I am glad they, particularly Mr. Stillman, are putting their bigotry aside and realise the good the Elves are doing for their people. The Code Blue and DNR made me sad, but as it is said, to everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under Heaven (hope I quoted that right, it's three AM and I haven't slept one bit). A time to be born, and a time to die. It's good they all realise that. Thank you for so many thought-provoking chapters. It seems new lines are being drawn here at the hospital. I wonder if Mr. Stillman was involved with the C4? Tye-melin, Kaylee

Author's reply

Hi Kaylee. Sorry to hear about your medical issues. Hope things are better now for you. I doubt if George Stillman was involved with the C4. He may not like the Elves but he's not a rabid Elf-hater like Peterson. Hopefully what happened with Janey will help him see the Elves in a new light and treat Glorfindel better than he has. We'll have to see. And you quoted the bible verse pretty well in spite of lack of sleep. *grin* Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it. Tye-melin.

Eruherdiriel · 9 December 2014 · Chapter 99: Elrond in Oz

I'm glad the children are okay. I would enjoy seeing Elrond as a permanent character. And his reactions to various medical paraphernalia. ~Eruherdiriel

Author's reply

Hi Eruherdiriel. I'm sure everyone is glad that the children are okay and you're not alone in hoping to see Elrond as a permanent resident of Wiseman. We'll have to see how that works out. Thanks for reading and reviewing. It's appreciated.

Laer · 9 December 2014 · Chapter 99: Elrond in Oz

Poor Elrond, he has to feel like the "country mouse" and he shouldn't. I hope he (they) get to stay, but I guess we will see what we will see :) I also would like to see a few others stay, if they need places to stay.... ;)

Author's reply

I'm sure Elrond will eventually feel less like a "country mouse" once he's settled in. I doubt he and Celebrían will want to return to Valinor after finally being reunited with their sons, but we'll see and there are others who will most likely insist on staying as well. Thanks for the offer. LOL! I'm sure they appreciate it, as do I. ;) Anyway, thanks for leaving a review. It's much appreciated.

Laer · 9 December 2014 · Chapter 98: Getting Reacquainted

I am worried about who all will want to stay with family when they get ready to leave. :( Guess we will see what we will see. Yes to Ron getting his dues by the way. You dont have to be a balrog slayer to be powerful Although it can't hurt. ;) Love this story so much. :-)

Author's reply

Hi Laer. We'll see who stays and who goes back. And Ron deserves all accolades. He's been a life-saver in more ways than one over the last couple years that the Elves have lived in Wiseman. I'm glad you are enjoying the story so much. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it a lot.

Arlene · 8 December 2014 · Chapter 99: Elrond in Oz

I'm enjoying the story even though I haven't commented before. But I had to comment about today's chapter and the mention of a 20 story hospital building. Anchorage doesn't have a 20 story building of any type... probably nothing higher than 10 - 12 stories for one of the hotels and that is the largest city by far in the whole state of Alaska. My impression has been that Wiseman is about 10,000 people or so and I can't imagine them having a hospital more than 2 stories high. Even a slightly larger city, which would be fairly unusual in the rural parts of Alaska - it is very sparsely inhabited - wouldn't have a very big facility. Serious cases are flown to Anchorage. Anyway, I just thought I'd point that out as I lived in Alaska for a number of years and I visit there almost every year. :)

Author's reply

Hello Arlene. Thanks for the info. I guess I was thinking of the hospitals in Syracuse where I live, and that's not a very large city. I've gone in and lowered the numbers. Even so, the hospital would still be taller than any building he would remember from living in Middle-earth before. At any rate, I'm glad you are enjoying the story. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it.

demeter d · 8 December 2014 · Chapter 98: Getting Reacquainted

Hmmm...Ron as Turgon's worst nightmare. Turgon should ask some of the others about both his fists and his hypodermic needle! Are those anger management classes still going on? I suppose with the wedding going on, and Turgon's not being there long to begin with, there would not be time. But watching him in such a session, particularly with one of the mortal instructors, would be highly entertaining, I think.

Author's reply

Hi Demeter d. As far as I know the classes are still going on though probably not as extensively. Ron even mentions the fact here that he was considering ending them soon. At any rate, it would be amusing to see Turgon in one of those classes, but as you say, there isn't any time for it. Too bad. He probably could use some anger management right about now. *grin* Anyway, thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

Larner · 8 December 2014 · Chapter 99: Elrond in Oz

I can certainly appreciate why he doesn't wish to be bereft of his children again. And I rejoice that he is proud of their accomplishments now. A good introduction for him to current medical practice, I think. And I believe Professor Stillman has some appreciation to gather for Glorfindel and his people.

Author's reply

Hi Larner. Yes, he's very proud of them and we'll see the Stillmans again in the next chapter and how he interacts with Elrond and his sons. Thanks for reviewing. It's appreciated.

Lyana · 8 December 2014 · Chapter 99: Elrond in Oz

*blinks and does best not to hyperventilate* Did... did I see you actually use the Mortal name I suggested for Olórin??!? Or had you already thought of it, and I just guessed what you'd already written? Either way, really trying not to fangirl here. I know, silly, but hey... :-) Ahem. Sorry - there's so much awesomeness in this chapter - love Elrond (can't imagine how trippy it would be to be introduced to modern civilization that way), and love how the elves and humans are starting to appreciate each other and lean into each others' strengths. I may not be commenting much, but I'm thoroughly enjoying the stories, and am thrilled that an EA4 is in the works.

Author's reply

Hi Lyana. I honestly don't know. I think it's a question of which came first, the chicken or the egg in this case. At any rate, thanks for the suggestion either way. *grin* I'm glad you are enjoying the story and looking forward to EA4. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it very much.

rikki · 8 December 2014 · Chapter 99: Elrond in Oz

Stranger in a strange land. Elrond is certainly fascinated by the modern day sights he is seeing as they rush to the hospital. Even though he has lived in Middle-Earth before, things have certainly changed! But he also strikes me as an Elf who can adapt and see the marvels as improvements to mankind. I can just see the other Elves visiting from Valinor when they go sightseeing. LOL! Hopefully it will be in small groups or Glorfindel will never get them from Point A to Point B. I loved the way that Gandalf stepped in as Dr. Oliver Grey to help the parents find their children. As was said later, Elrond also played a part as being the Elf that parents saw when they came into the hospital. Elrond must have been very proud of his sons when he learned at the news conference that they had been instrumental in saving lives. Can't wait to see how he likes riding in the van for the first time. Probably will ask where the horses are being kept. LOL! Hope you have a wonderful week and looking forward to Friday.

Author's reply

Hi rikki. Yes, a stranger in a strange land, indeed. As for the tour, we'll see that soon enough. Gandalf is very good at what he does and, of course, he's dealt with Mortals more so than any of the other Maiar and on a more intimate basis, so he's a good choice for helping with the parents of the children. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

Dreamflower · 8 December 2014 · Chapter 99: Elrond in Oz

*facepalm* I knew I meant Elrond, but instead of putting his name in, I used a pesky pronoun in the same paragraph as I was talking about Gandalf. 'S what I get for posting a comment before I've had my breakfast. *blushes*

Author's reply

It does help to be awake when leaving a review, Dreamflower. LOL! I knew you meant Elrond, but couldn't help tweaking you a bit about it. ;)
