Hmmm, I didn't expect that last bit. Poor Daeron. At least he's working through and past it. And now Celeborn is pushing more than Galadriel. I admit I didn't expect that. ~Eruherdiriel

Author's reply

Hi Eruherdiriel. The important thing is indeed that Daeron is working through and past what happened to him. Celeborn, of course, feels justified in pushing, because he's doing it on behalf of Elu Thingol and not just for himself. At any rate, he'll get no more of the story than what as been told him. The important thing for them all to know is that Daeron is alive and well and he's where he's supposed to be. Thanks for leaving a review. I appreciate it very much.

FV_Whisper · 19 December 2014 · Chapter 100: Crisis in ICU

I have a very busy week of Christmas preparation behind me. And speaking of Christmas preparations, I already told my house mate (who is all too well aware of my Elf obsession), I will not allow anything that even closely resembles Santa's Elves in lol Of course, I will allow any Elves if they come from Wiseman! (well, I better had to, I received just my figurine of Elrond in the new movies armor in the mail. My Precious! ) Ahh, Elrond, it's nice to see more of him here (Can I ever have too much Elrond? I don't think so) It's good we find out more about his apprenticeship, it will make things certainly easier to handle for his sons, seeing how upset they were about it first, now hearing looking back heir father is not bitter about it. Elrond in his wisdom is right, he needed this to become the healer he could be, just like they needed their studies to become acclaimed healers in this world. That if anything should make the Twins understand. Still, it seems it;s still the best way to cause chaos in Lorien by walking out of a class! I'm pretty sure Irmo set that up on purpose to see what Elrond was worth and did not come out disappointed. I can't help but wondering what would happened if Elrond had asked for a ride back and Eärendil had said 'no'. Námo in full glory is really not the person you would want to see in ICU in most cases. I can see Erica being scared enough for her child to shout at him, it's only a natural reaction. Although in this case, I can't help thinking he was there just to make sure Elrond and sons were still in the room when the poor child was having that seizure. Now, the Stillmans, I think especially George really has to consider his ways on the Elves after this. I chuckled at Elrond cursing Námo's name when fighting for a patient's life. I think Elrond is one of the few Elves who is really able to understand what Mortal dead mean, and it would have made him somewhat adement in treating patients. It seems like Mr. Anderson was one of those persons for whom 'live has taken too long' and was 'glad the time was there', as a local poet here has put it very beautifully. I'm going ahead here and respond to what Kyle Stoner said in the upcoming chapter about DNR. He's right about that, as well as right about the arrogance of doctors at trying to keep a patient alive at all costs. My grandmother had a DNR, but in the end it was us as a family who had to decide on stopping her treatment, on which we all agreed, because we knew the life that was left for her would be not worth living anymore. Even with that knowledge, at some point one of those arrogant doctors suggested re-starting the treatment when she lasted longer than expected. Also, this was a case where I think we all would have gladly seen Námo show up at some point to take her away.

Author's reply

Hi FV_Whisper. I think hearing the story directly from their father helped the Twins to see that there was no humiliation and that Lord Irmo honestly wanted what was best for Elrond. And I suspect you're right about Irmo setting Elrond up to see what he would do. Luckily, they came to an agreement about things and everything worked out for the best. And yes, I suspect Lord Námo showed up as he did to keep the Elves where they were so they could help the little girl. Showing up as 'Nate' might not have worked as well. Thanks for reviewing. It's appreciated.

Oh, sweet Eru! Poor Dearon! I don't want to imagine what was done to Dearon, mans inhumanity to man never ceases to appall me and we have not improved with age, we seem to get better and better at it with each passing year. Such a sad commentary on the world as a whole. I can understand Celeborn's impatience at wanting to get to discussing the Betrothal as soon as possible but he forgets that Tristan and Isault have just spent the day traveling from Fairbanks, a journey of some considerable distance and driving is tiring even with cruise control! I wonder just how much sleep Finrod and Amarie will be getting, I expect they will be ready for breakfast, if the bother to come down for it, that is! I can well imagine the signs the Valar insisted the Wedding Guests learn, it will save a lot of embarrassment all round! I think Dearon will be setting up a small English as a second language school. Oh, well time to pack up the cat, the B.H. and the B.B. and head for the hills, the Orclings are here, the Orclings are here! Huggs, I'll see you on Monday, Lynda

Author's reply

Hi Lynda. Celeborn doesn't realize that Gareth's parents have traveled over 6,000 miles in two days and have to been exhausted. At least he apologizes for his impatience. I doubt Finrod and Amarië will get much sleep. LOL! And yeah, I can just see Daeron opening up a small ESL school for newcomers from Aman. LOL! Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. Good luck with the Orclings. Hugs back.

Dreamflower · 19 December 2014 · Chapter 102: Conversations in the Library

Oh the possibilities! So much is hinted at in this chapter, and I hope we'll learn more eventually. But I am impressed with the way you show Galadriel's astuteness in the things she asks, and in the answers she gives. Celeborn, as well, although he seems more inclined to push than his wife (at least at this point in time (I have a feeling that if she decided to push, she'd not be put off as easily). Poor Daeron! Have you told his story as hinted at here already? It sounds dreadful, from what Glorfindel did reveal.

Author's reply

Hi Dreamflower. I'm glad you are impressed with the way I show Galadriel's astuteness as well as Celeborn, though, I grant you, he's being a bit more forward than he probably should be, but he's on a mission from Elu Thingol to learn the truth of what happened to Daeron after he fled Doriath, but I'm afraid he's never going to learn the full truth. And no, I have never told Daeron's story and it is unlikely I ever will except possible hints here or there. I think I'll leave it to the reader's imagination as to what might have happened. Anyway, thanks for commenting. It's much appreciated.

Kevana · 19 December 2014 · Chapter 102: Conversations in the Library

Damn. No wonder they don't talk about those days. It sounds like Daeron was very, very lucky to even make it out alive, especially given the way many Elves might fade under such conditions. Though we can only guess at what those conditions were exactly, and even just guessing turns my stomach a bit. Add me to the list of people you've gotten to care about your characters and their stories. I greatly enjoyed seeing Galadriel and Glorfindel get caught up. We don't ever see them interact in canon, but they must have had an interesting, if complicated relationship, especially in your Reborn verse where he and Finrod are besties before he returns to Middle-earth. As for Turgon, it sounds like he had a horribly difficult readjustment. I hope he hasn't spent Ages and Ages unhealed because he couldn't get to Glorfindel, but it sounds as if that may be the case. They were right to bring him along for the wedding. Personally I think that under the circumstances, Glorfindel was quite justified in telling Turgon off! But death probably has a way of making you see things differently to say the least, heh, and he was death sworn to boot (that stupid oath >.> ). Thanks for the great, though painful chapter, and have a great weekend! -Kevana

Author's reply

Hi Kevana. Whatever happened to Daeron is in the past and things are much better for him. His rescue by Glorfindel and the Twins was obviously planned by the Powers That Be. Glorfindel hints as much when he says it was miraculous that they found him at all. I'm glad you enjoyed Galadriel and Glorfindel catching up on things. They indeed had to have some kind of relationship especially after Elrond and Celebrían wed and there was more commerce between the two elven enclaves. It only stands to reason. And Turgon, well, I think he's mostly healed, but there is that one part of him where Glorfindel is that needs to be healed and hopefully that will happen before he returns to Aman. And we see here why that oath was so dangerous. People like Arafinwë, when he learned of it, were right to be appalled by the implications and consequences of such an oath. At any rate, thanks for taking the time to leave a review. It's very much appreciated.

UTfrog · 19 December 2014 · Chapter 102: Conversations in the Library

Thanks for another great chapter. Plenty of information imparted and even more questions raised you are very good at that. I do hope we eventually hear some of Daraon back story.

Author's reply

You're most welcome, UTfrog. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I doubt we'll hear the full tale of what happened to Daeron, though we may get bits and pieces. That remains to be seen. Thanks for reading and reviewing. It's appreciated.

Sunny · 19 December 2014 · Chapter 102: Conversations in the Library

Hehehe. I see Finrod is all set to show Amarië his etchings, or at least his nascent collection of Mortal-made odds and ends. ;-) Sounds like Turgon was a real handful, even for someone like Arafinwë with all is experience with Reborn. And even if Elenwë took most of the responsibility for dealing with him, I'm sure the rest of the family had their hads full with him as well. Clearly he was at least as, um, _challenging_ as Glorfindel once had been! And I think Arafinwë's insistence that Turgon's Death Sworn stay away from him until he was mature enough to deal with them was a good move. He had more enough on his plate without that element added in, from the sound of it! Ouch! Sounds like Daeron had a _really_ grim time of it! I guess that's one story that is unlikely to be told, if it was bad enough to make the normally compassionate Glorfindel (and the Twins) furious enough to kill everyone in that community, down to the infants! I suppose the readers are just going to have to imagine what might have happened, picking things from the darker end of what people do to each other, like rape, torture, slavery or (more likely) a combination. I'm sure Vorondur is a great help to Daeron - and a much better healer for him than one of the Valinoreans would have been.

Author's reply

Hi Sunny. I'm sure Finrod will be showing her more than his Mortal-made knick-knacks. LOL! At any rate, it does seem that Turgon was a handful, more so than is usual for Reborn. Hopefully, whatever unresolved issued there are between him and Glorfindel will eventually be resolved before Turgon returns to Aman. Daeron's situation was indeed very grim, but Vorondur is there to help him and that's all that matters at the moment, isn't it? Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

Laer · 19 December 2014 · Chapter 102: Conversations in the Library

So very much for the new and old elves to have to handle. Past hurts, pasts tortures, future questions, future love...wow. Very epic ;) I am so sorry for the harm we mortals placed on Daren. He is such a kind soul...yeah, I know he isn't real; but he is to me. :( See you on Monday :)

Author's reply

Quite a lot for both groups to deal with, Laer. I'm glad Daeron is real to you. He's real to me, as all the characters in my stories are. And I'm sure with Vorondur's help, Daeron will overcome his demons as we all must. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

Sarah · 19 December 2014 · Chapter 102: Conversations in the Library

initially I was in the same boat at Celeborn, quite curious as to how all this lot got together. but now.... *hugs Daeron* I know your a fictional character dear, but ... argh, you see what you've done, good author? You've made me feel as though I ought to apologize on behalf of humanity to a fictional character who we don't even know what happens to and I can't bear to think about it .... I think I may be more emotionally invested in your canon than actual canon. Good job. I'm going to go and steal a certain someone's hot chocolate recipe and find some fluffy kittens to cuddle :-)

Author's reply

That you care for a fictional character is a testament to my good writing(grin) and I thank you for the compliment. And really, we should all feel ashamed of the way we have treated and still treat even our own kind to this very day. It's a sad commentary on humanity. At any rate, enjoy your hot chocolate and fluffy kittens and thanks for leaving a review. It's much appreciated.

SashaHoneypalm · 17 December 2014 · Chapter 101: Dancing the Night Away

So basically my second idea, then. More or less. Thanks for clarifying; one of the nice things about fanfiction is that when I'm confused about a plot point, I can ask about it.

Author's reply

Not a problem, Sasha. I'm glad I was able to help clarify matters for you.

SashaHoneypalm · 16 December 2014 · Chapter 101: Dancing the Night Away

>“But if Lord Námo calls…” Olwë started to say, shaking his head, unable to complete whatever his thought was. < I'll have to admit, that doesn't quite ring true to me. Olwe is an Elf who's never met a mortal until just a few days ago. I can't see an immortal being, who has never known death as anything except a catastrophe, really comprehending death as a normality/necessity. (I'll admit I've mostly gotten that idea from fanfictions- but those authors do make a rather convincing case that Elves, especially the long-time Valinoreans, would find the idea of "peaceful death" completely alien to their psyches). Though it occurs to me now you could see it the other way- sheltered Valinorean Elves may well only think of mortals in terms of "those people that die", and not see what the big deal about death would be for them, because "Hey, they're supposed to die anyway, right?" (I'm not sure that came out right; I know what the thought I have in my head is, but I'm having trouble coming up with the right words. You know what I mean, right?)

Author's reply

Hi Sasha. I think I know what you were trying to say, but you are looking at it from the wrong perspective. In Quenya, the word that we translate as "Mortal" is _Fírima_ (also _Fírimo_ and _Firya_); Sindarin has similar words _Fíreb_, _Fair_ as well as gender-specific terms _Firion_ (men) and _Fireth_ (women). All these terms literally mean "One apt to die" or "One who expires". The Elves, even those like Olwë who never met them or had any congress with them, know that death is the natural state for Mortals. So, Olwë, upon hearing that Mortals are able to bring someone back from the dead, is disturbed by the idea that any Mortal would defy the Lord of Mandos when he calls forth a soul, because he knows that, while Elves who die are given the choice to heed Námo's call or not, this is not true for Mortals. They must heed Námo's call; they have no choice in the matter. This is how he sees things because this is what he's been taught be the Valar as well as by those, like his grandson Finrod, who knew Mortals intimately, or as intimately as any Elf could. I hope this makes sense as I'm writing this at 6:00 AM and I'm not quite awake yet. *grin* Thanks for taking the time to read and comment. It's much appreciated.

Soledad · 16 December 2014 · Chapter 101: Dancing the Night Away

Go, Tristan! I like it how he takes no crap from Celeborn. After all, he is the one who survived literally millennia in a now Mortal world - Celeborn, for all his wisdom, will have to adjust. He has no other choice.

Author's reply

Hi Soledad. Yes, Tristan is more than capable of standing on his own against Celeborn for the very reason you give. Glad you liked this. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

Dreamflower · 16 December 2014 · Chapter 101: Dancing the Night Away

What a nice relaxing chapter! I love the idea of the Elves listening to mortal music and dancing mortal dances. Very nice. I can see that the new crop of Elves from Valinor are going to have their ideas of propriety severely challenged over the next few days.

Author's reply

Hi Dreamflower. Well, considering how long certain Elves have been living among mortals, it stands to reason that they would learn to dance to them. And yes, those from Valinor are going to have to make certain adjustments to their viewpoint about propriety with regards to how life is lived in Wiseman even by the Elves who reside there. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

Sarah · 15 December 2014 · Chapter 101: Dancing the Night Away

it's good to get out of the hospital and back to some nice conversation about boring old not life and death stuff (she says as she sits and reads this visiting in a hospital) Everyone's reactions to "dancing" were priceless! And Nell dear, as one who has made such arguments with her parents concerning significant others for years now, sometimes fathers simply cannot be reasoned with on such matters. Though good on Glorfindel for allowing them a bit of freedom. all these lovebirds are quite adorable, and we haven't even gotten everyone officially hitched yet ;-) Onward to Friday!

Author's reply

How ironic, Sarah. I'm glad you found everyonés reactions to dancing priceless. And I'm sure Nell's mortal girlfriends can give her chapter and verse about dads where their daughters are concerned. Glorfindel, of course, is more than willing to stand up for them against the old fogies in the group. *grin* Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. I appreciate it very much.

6336 · 15 December 2014 · Chapter 101: Dancing the Night Away

Yes, dancing is a lot better than beating up on each other with swords and a lot less painful the next day! I don't think Nell and Gareth would be so immature as to run off and do it Sindarin style but there is nothing to stop them and every body knows that! Why do I think Turgon is going to be a pain in the arse until he has his 'discussion' with Glorfindel? Oh, well, have to get to work on finding a hole in the den for the B.B. to sleep in, with the Orclings and their parents coming down we will have a house full even if only for four days. And I still have to warn the cat! Huggs, Lynda

Author's reply

Hi Lynda. I doubt Nell and Gareth will run off. I'm sure they will behave themselves until the proper time to marry. As for Turgon, we'll just have to see. Good luck with the Orclings and all. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it. Hugs back.

Kevana · 15 December 2014 · Chapter 101: Dancing the Night Away

The DNR concept must seem very strange to many Elves, who don't age or experience all the things that come with it. I imagine it would be difficult for some of them to understand why a person would make that choice, while others might understand all too well. I did a double-take when the music came on, I thought recognized the Scissor Sisters! The dancing was lovely. Adding the soundtrack list to the end was a nice touch. I love Josh Groeban, I cry buckets at his version of Mi Mancherai. Personally I am wondering if Galadriel is perhaps a little envious of her daughter's freedom living in a much less restrictive society, and trying to come to terms with what it means. I hope she will work through whatever's on her mind, and be glad for her daughter's happiness in the end. It's weird to think Nielluin and Celebrian are sisters, Elrond is Nielluin's brother-in-law and Elrohir and Elladan her nephews, meaning Serindë and Nielluin are going to be related by marriage. Vorondur's grandkids (if Serindë and Elrohir have any) are also going to have Eärendil, of all people, as a great-grandfather. (I *think* I have all of that right, anyway.) Elven relations are absolutely wild. No wonder these gatherings and weddings are so intense and complicated. Olwë's matter-of-fact revelation regarding his dropped hint is the best. He still strikes me as the most accepting, open-minded of the three kings. I'm so glad Ron's sons get to spend some time with their parents again. The dinner party (of doom?) is approaching, I can't wait to see what comes out of that. Lovely chapter, thank you for the update! Best wishes for the week ahead. -Kevana

Author's reply

Hi Kevana. Not only the DNR but the idea that you can actually bring people back from the dead within a certain timeframe. No one had that kind of knowledge back in the day. Elven relations are indeed wild and convoluted and everyone is related to everyone else. It's hard to keep track of them all. Olwë's open-mindedness will be rather evident later on as we will see. And the dinner party is indeed approaching, though I wouldn't necessarily call it the dinner party of doom, but you'll have to be the judge of that. Thanks for reviewing. Enjoy the rest of the week.

Larner · 15 December 2014 · Chapter 101: Dancing the Night Away

A good way to work off excess emotion, and a good time was had by all save Turgon, apparently.

Author's reply

Yes, it is, Larner, and maybe Turgon enjoyed himself too eventually once he got over his sulk. Thanks for reviewing. It's appreciated.

Lindelea · 15 December 2014 · Chapter 101: Dancing the Night Away

Dancing Maiar? There's a visual aid towards Attitude Adjustment for you... I admit I didn't notice how quiet Galadriel was, until several other readers pointed it out, and then I realised (on looking over the chapter again) that I had mis-read "Glorfindel" as "Galadriel" in a couple of places, where I had been honestly surprised (and no wonder -- as it wasn't Galadriel at all) at her attitude. Stupid dyslexia. It's going to be one of those days. I usually do my fanfic reading with/after a cup of caffeine, which somehow helps my brain keep the letters straighter. Reading a story with similar names can be quite amusing, otherwise!

Author's reply

Hi Lindelea. It can be confusing with so many names sounding and looking the same. Even I have to keep a list and refer to it on occasion. Anyway, I'm glad you found it amusing. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

Eruherdiriel · 15 December 2014 · Chapter 101: Dancing the Night Away

I have to agree. Dancing is a better way to release frustration than bruising someone. There's less pain afterwords. It will be interesting to see Galadriel's conversation with Gareth. ~Eruherdiriel

Author's reply

Hi Eruherdiriel. Yes, dancing is usually less painful afterwards. *grin* We'll see the dinner soon enough. We have to get through the tour of Wiseman first. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

Laer · 15 December 2014 · Chapter 101: Dancing the Night Away

Sounds like Nielluin is her mother's child :) Turgon will need to learn patience, but I can't help but wonder who will have to teach this to him ;) The dancing was a great idea to blow off some steam and for all to simply enjoy some time together.

Author's reply

Oh definitely, Laer. Turgon has issues but some of them will be resolved before he leaves, though we won't see that until much later. I'm sure the visitors, once they got over the shock, enjoyed the music and the dancing very much, especially when they saw even someone like Finrod dancing. *grin* Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it greatly.

Sunny · 15 December 2014 · Chapter 101: Dancing the Night Away

Clearly the healers are due a bit of R&R after their stressful time at the hospital! But it seems that the Valinorean Elves are having their doubts. T rather like the “That’s… dancing?” and “That’s… music?” remarks from two of the kings. Though dancing is clearly a better method of unwinding than the one the Twins USED to have. Hehehe - the Maiar are joining in the cance as well? Clearly everybody (almost) have fun. One of the exceptions DID NOT react to being called an old fogey by blowing his stack, which was great. Though he did not like the idea of his daughter and Gareth dleeping together under the stars (even chastely and well chaperoned). Gareth's reaction to Nielluin's declaration was really too funny (Nielluin is very definitely her mother's daughter) but ... uh-oh, is that Ominious Silence (tm) from Galadriel's direction?

Author's reply

Hi Sunny. Yes, they all needed a bit of R&R after that. I'm sure once they got used to it, the new arrivals enjoyed watching the dancing if nothing else. Celeborn probably reached his limit by the time he tried to pull the lovers apart. Poor ellon, it's just too much for him. As for Galadriel, ominous silence indeed. LOL! Thanks for leaving a comment. It's much appreciated.

rikki · 15 December 2014 · Chapter 101: Dancing the Night Away

After all the drama at the hospital dancing would be a good way to relieve the tension the twins are feeling. Losing a patient, even if the patient had made the decision to let the natural course take place is hard on the nurses and doctors who are trained to save lives. I agree with Glorfindel it is better that Elladan and Elrohir dance away their tension and frustration rather than fight it out with swords. I am older than dirt and didn't recognize the songs played, but I am headed out to You Tube to see what it was they were playing. Right now Aretha Franklin is wailing on my computer with "Think". Followed by Assembly of Dust. My ITunes is on artists alphabetically right now. And it was definitely funny that "children" who have to be thousands of years old are considered by their parents not to be "mature" enough to behave in an appropriate manner. Celeborn and Galadriel are definitely getting a new view of their daughter. Nell has picked up a lot of mortal perceptions of dating and having a potential husband. But with Celebrain and Elrond and Elladan there to chaperon and Glorfindel who has already delivered the "talk" to the two sweethearts, I don't think things will get too carried away. Tristan was cool to support the Nell and Garath, but then he has lived many years with mortals and knows what could happen. But then if the subject came up, Celeborn and Galandriel did not wed under the usual constraints of Eleven society. Things will work out eventually. I see you mentioned that the dinner with Alex and Derek is coming up. I am looking forward to see everyone for that. Will Ester be the waitress? I have a feeling this is going to be very interesting. In the meantime, have a great week and I will be here Friday for the next edition.

Author's reply

Hi rikki. I'm a Josh Groban fan so I've always liked this song by him. The other songs I've heard either on YouTube or at Radio Rivendell and that's why I picked them. The Elves of Aman are still very old fashioned and stick to the old ways. The ones from Middle-earth have lived through every kind of society and are quite comfortable in the more permissive society of the West. As you say, things will work out eventually. We'll see the dinner with Alex and Derek shortly, once we get through the tours. And yes, Esther will be there to supervise. Thanks for leaving a review. I appreciate it very much.

UTfrog · 15 December 2014 · Chapter 101: Dancing the Night Away

A very nice slow chapter after all the recent drama. I liked how you revealed the information flow between groups who had so much to cover. Looking forward to the wedding! Thank you.

Author's reply

Hi UTfrog. Certainly slower and I'm glad you liked how I revealed the information flow between the groups as there really was so much to cover between them. The wedding will be soon, but not immediate. We still have to get through the planned tours and and dinner party with Alex and Derek, but we'll see the wedding soon enough. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

Celeth · 15 December 2014 · Chapter 101: Dancing the Night Away

I used to enjoy reading about their sword fights when they were trying to work off their frustrations, but dancing is much better, and sure gave the Valinoreans a lot of entertainment, especially the Maiar. I wonder what the latter thought of the dancing and the music, especially those who have never had contact with Mortal culture before. So, Celeborn is not that cool with his daughter's behavior and dress after all. And Galadriel is too quiet; why do I get the feeling that she is going to explode soon? I hope I am wrong.

Author's reply

Hi Celeth. Dancing is at least safer if not as exciting as sword fighting. I'm sure the Maiar enjoyed the music in all its forms. Celeborn is definitely in unamused Ada mode and yes, Galadriel is much too quiet. We'll just have to see how things go. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

Bootsgrandma · 13 December 2014 · Chapter 99: Elrond in Oz

Yes! My favorite elf is back! I love Elrond. I am eager to see what he winds up doing in this new Mortal world. I wonder if he may decide to go on to medical school like his sons. Hmm. May I recommend Celeste as a Mortal name for Celebrian? I can't wait for the updates. This story gets better with each chapter. Well done.
