Oooh, a reunion with Esther and Nate! Loved it! That was my favourite scene in the first part, too. Now to see how they deal with Farrell... that guy is really, really slimy. I still vote for him to have an unfortunate incident with memory loss.

Author's reply

Hi Soledad. Esther and Nate are lots of fun, aren't they? I susupect that was a favorite scene of a lot of readers. It was certainly a favorite scene for me to write, especially Esther constantly interrupting the conversation between Alex and Farrell and then Nate showing up with his skull and crossbones baseball hat. As for Farrell... that remains to be seen. Thanks for commenting. I really appreciate you taking the time to do so.

Kitty · 16 April 2012 · Chapter 26: The Name Game

Sounds like Alex missed one of the best classes. It's still fun to imagine such a consummate warrior as Elrohir teaching making hot chocolate! Do you think you could get him to collect the recipes and make a book? I'd like one ;) Of course, with the Elves as the instigators, even such a simple three-legged race would be twisted into something more complicated and more fun. I am sure they all had a great afternoon! Yeah, Bregdal was my first thought when the name lottery was mentioned. By now, I wouldn't be too surprised if he got that one. Looks like the lottery has been improved with the pronouncation and meaning on the slip, too. Good idea. In any case, the name Alex got was interesting, considering his lineage. Plus, it seems our dear Valar can't keep away and always have to meddle a bit. I'm surprised Alex didn't outright faint when Fionwë turned up, after all the shocks he already had. Though of course, he's probably getting used to being shocked all the time, poor guy. *sigh* Why does Farrell have to turn up again now, of all times? I don't like the thought one bit that Alex has to meet him. Though that Café is well known to certain Valar, of course, and I hope they make sure Alex is safe, as they seem to be very interested in him.

Author's reply

Hi Kitty. Well, even consummate warriors need a hobby. LOL! And Elrohir's certainly is a yummy one. I'd like a book of his recipes myself. I'm sure the Valar thought it would be a fun way to confirm Alex's lineage rather than just sending a Maia to tell them. And Farrell is like the proverbial bad penny, always showing up when least expected. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

Sunny · 16 April 2012 · Chapter 27: Café Encounters of the Strange Kind

What _is_ it with Farrell? here he is again, insisting that Alex shoot first, think later, and regret his actions (if at all) at leisure. Not particularly agently behaviour, IMO - and it makes me wonder just _why_ he is so insistent. And if those orders he is giving Alex _really_ are from the Agency at all. Especially with Farrell's "screw the bystanders" attitude. And Farrell is taking a big interest in the other elves at Edhellond as well - and did he also try to bug the place? It sound as if the elves' warding also works against remote surveillance devices - unless it is the Maiar who have decided to help out a little? And I see the Valar still like to poke anthills ... their little meeting with Alex went fairly well - he did not keel over dead from fright, nor did he totally freak out. Unless he gets a delayed reaction of some sort, of course. ;-)

Author's reply

Hi Sunny. Well, as for Farrell... your guess is as good as mine. I have no idea what his game is... yet. Alex is running in survival-mode at the moment and hasn't had time to process what has happened and so there may well be a delayed reaction once he stops long enough to think about it. Thanks for commenting. I appreciate it.

Silmarien · 16 April 2012 · Chapter 27: Café Encounters of the Strange Kind

Maybe I'm forgetting, but was there ever any real confirmation that Farrell actually was sent by the agency? How do we know he isn't working for someone else, like, say, Morgoth? Great chapter, as usual.

Author's reply

Hi Silmarien. A very good question and maybe we'll find out either way at some point. Is he really working for the Agency or for someone else? Glad you enjoyed the chapter. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it.

Lyana · 16 April 2012 · Chapter 27: Café Encounters of the Strange Kind

Here we go! Wonder how the Elves would feel about being considered "aces"? :-) And Amroth already had to shake them once recently? Why didn't he tell Alex earlier? I'd think that would have given them some people to investigate... I have this awful feeling that Farrell stayed around to see what Alex does after their little "chat". Love the way Namo and Este introduce themselves. Alex is adapting very well, and his reactions are priceless - not that the Valar play favorites, but I think they're enjoying him very much as little by little he chooses to turn from the dark.

Author's reply

Hi Lyana. As to why Amroth didn't tell Alex about Farrell trying to take him, that explanation will be revealed in the next chapter. And I'm sure the Valar find Alex very amusing and enjoy "playing" with him. *grin* Thanks for the review. I appreciate it very much.

Fantasia · 16 April 2012 · Chapter 27: Café Encounters of the Strange Kind

Poor Alex, I'm glad that he has a very strong heart, because but now he should be close to a heart attack. Love Nate and Esther, I knew it !!!! Farrell is playing with fire, but he has back up that Alex doesn't know. My favorite piece is Alex thinking that he was dying because Namo was with him... Good that he will know the true intentions of the Academy.

Author's reply

Hi Fantasia. Farrell is indeed playing with fire and how Alex deals with him and the other agents will be shown in a later chapter. I thought Alex making the (wrong) connection between Námo showing up and the pie hilarious myself, showing how his mind works, always suspicious of motives. Goes with the territory of being a spy. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

someone · 16 April 2012 · Chapter 27: Café Encounters of the Strange Kind

It really seems that the Gold Nugget Café is the Valar's favorite place to ambush people. I liked Nate's baseball cap, it fits him well. *grin* Farrel clearly underestimated Alex, but why is he so obsessed with killing Amroth? Does he know he's responsible for the death of the head of agency? Alex' reaction for seeing the "angel of death" again was very entertaining, suspecting that the poor, innocent pie made by a Vala (Valie? what's the real singular form?) was poisoned!

Author's reply

Hi someone. Yeah, it does seem that way. It's certainly a convenient place to hang out and ambush unsuspecting people. And Farrell has indeed underestimated Alex. As for his obseesion with Amroth... maybe we'll find out someday. And the correct singular form for a female Vala is indeed Valië, the plural being Valier. Thanks for leaving a comment. It's very much appreciated.

6336 · 16 April 2012 · Chapter 27: Café Encounters of the Strange Kind

Farrell is dangerous, very, very dangerous! His complete disregard for 'collateral damage' makes him so. Is he bucking for Alex' job? I had a feeling that if Esther was there Nate would not be too far behind, she has run interferance for him before. Now to let Amroth know and find the mole! Seating delegates. Huggs, Lynda

Author's reply

Hi Lynda. Yes, Farrell is very dangerous, but what his motives are is anyone's guess at this point. Next chapter we'll see Alex confronting Amroth and the others. It should prove very interesting all around. Ah... seating delegates... always a delicate affair. *grin* Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it.

Erulisse (one L) · 16 April 2012 · Chapter 27: Café Encounters of the Strange Kind

I always love it when "Nate" slums with the second-born and this little interlude made me LOL at the coffeeshop while reading. Not that there aren't all sorts of problems here, but Alex will finally be getting the full scoop on why EA exists, and will be getting belp from Ambrose -in essence another agent in the field. Call me happy! - Erulisse (one L)

Author's reply

Hi Erulisse. Glad you enjoyed watching "Nate" slumming with the Mortals. And hopefully Alex will get most of his questions answered. We'll have to see. Thanks for leaving a review. It's much appreciated.

UTfrog · 16 April 2012 · Chapter 27: Café Encounters of the Strange Kind

Great chapter, but you forgot to leave the beverage warning. I nearly snorted coffee out my nose when you introduced Nate in a skull and crossbones hat! Thanks for another good job.

Author's reply

Hi UTfrog. Sorry about the lack of beverage warning. *grin* Glad you enjoyed the chapter otherwise. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it very much.

obsidianj · 14 April 2012 · Chapter 26: The Name Game

And the shocks keep piling up. I just hope Alex can keep a clear head when he goes to meet Farrell. He can't have a breakdown. How long can Alex keep up with all this before he snaps? I wouldn't mind if he would take out Farrell when he snaps, but that would draw a lot of attention from the wrong folks. Who is going to notify the elves of the meeting, since Alex obviously is not going to do it? That would probably be Fionwe, since the Valar seem to have put a 24/7 watch on Alex.

Author's reply

Hi obsidanj. Yes, the shocks keep piling up and we'll see how those shock take a toll on Alex in the next chapter. And as far as I know, no one is notifying the Elves about anything, as we will see. Anyway, thanks for commenting. I appreciate it very much.

obsidianj · 14 April 2012 · Chapter 25: Delving into the Past

Wow! Now Alex is channeling an Elf on top of Beren. I hope he can cope with all of this. He must be so confused. For him that knows nearly nothing of what we, the readers know, it must make no sense at all. He is at this strange academy learning an invented language, in which he is suddenly quite fluent although it is an old dialect nobody has taught him so far, and writing about incidents he knows nothing about. He is taking it pretty well. I just hope he doesn't have breakdown in class. His classmates must think him pretty strange already. First, he is complaining all the time, acting up (storming out of class),then he nearly drowns and now he has special sessions with the teachers. The rumor mill must be buzzing. I just hope Farrell is not getting too suspicious.

Author's reply

Hi obsidanj. I imagine the rumor mill is at full tilt by now where Alex is concerned. LOL! As for Farrell... we'll juat have to see. Thanks for commenting. It's much appreciated.

Lyana · 13 April 2012 · Chapter 26: The Name Game

Well, that opened nearly as many new questions as answers given! Good to know the Valar are actively pursuing this and treading carefully. I'm glad Fionwe was so considerate in how he made himself known, but Alex did handle himself very well! Something tells me that he'll be doing some major re-reading of his history notes with very different eyes in the next little while! And wise of Alex to just sleep for a while before attempting to tackle Farrell - not much he can do overnight anyway. Hope he's able to get news of the meeting to Amroth without Farrell finding out; they really have to be in it together. I see I'm not the only one who thinks it would be lovely to see "Nate" in place in the coffee shop for a Wrath of Mandos moment. :-) I'd be very much in favor of a little memory scrubbing, but I'm sure after Glorfindel's experiences with memory alteration at the hands of the Valar, that could be a rather fraught proposition. And I wonder if with the reduced barriers, Alex will to be able to use osanwe with the elves...

Author's reply

Hi Lyana. I suspect you're right about that. That so-called history book is going to have a whole different meaning for Alex now. As for "Nate" showing up at the cafë... well, stranger things have happened. *grin* We'll see what happens when Alex and Farrell meet there. As for calling in the Elves or even just Amroth... Alex probably won't. He's too used to going it alone to bother. That's something he's going to have to learn to do if he's going to be involved with the Elves for any length of time. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to read and review. I really appreciate it.

Soledad · 13 April 2012 · Chapter 26: The Name Game

Uh-oh! Fionwë's "reassuring" words made me already extremely nervous, but the ending with Farrell's e-mail... could you, please, have someone arrange an unfortunate accident for him? It doesn't have to be fatal - complete memory loss would do the trick just nicely. Ye Valar, but Fionwë really does have a presence! Poor Alex, he probably is more confused than ever before. I wonder what the significance of Elurín's name will be. Because knowing you, it must have one. ;)

Author's reply

Hi Soledad. I don't know if I can arrange for something bad to happen to Farrell, but I'll see what I can do. *grin* The problem with Farrell is that he doesn't realize against whom he is pitting himself. He thinks he's dealing with ordinary, clueless humans and not Valar, Maiar and Elves, none of whom are even a blip on his internal radar. As for the significance of Eluríin's name with respect to Alex, it is basically as Ron pointed out and as Fionwë confirmed: he is a descedant of Lúthien and therefore descended from Elu Thingol as well, which is what Elurín's name means. What other significance, if any, the name may hold remains to be seen. Thanks for taking the time to comment. It's very much appreciated.

Larner · 13 April 2012 · Chapter 26: The Name Game

So, there's more orders coming from dear Farrell, eh? The games sound like fun, and I want those cocoa recipes! Heh!

Author's reply

I wouldn't mind having the cocoa recipes, myself, Larner. *grin* At any rate, we'll see what Farrell is up to in the next chapter. Nothing good, that's for sure. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

Fantasia · 13 April 2012 · Chapter 26: The Name Game

Well, I least we know now who he is. Poor Alex, he is having too many shocks at once, to see an "angel" appearing in front of him must be so intense. Now, the elves will feel more protective of him than before, he is "family". Next, how to deal with Farrell. The appointment, is it the same cafe that Estë and Namo run? that would be good, having Estë serving them and making Farrell miserable. Hopefully, Alex will tell the elves, he should not going alone or in secret

Author's reply

Hi Fantasia. Yes, at least we, and they, know who Alex is, and even if Alex doesn't quite realize it, the Elves will, as you say, look upon him as "family" and act accordingly. And yes, it's the same café, and you never know who might show up there. We'll have to wait and see. *grin* Thanks for leaving a comment. I appreciate it very much.

6336 · 13 April 2012 · Chapter 26: The Name Game

What a fun way to spend an afternoon and what a neat way to celebrate making it to the halfway mark! Will Alex keep Elured or will he pick another name, I can understand why Glorfindel chose to not use certain names? I might have known the Valar had something to do with the name being in the box, so now Alex has met an angel and an arc-angel, who's next? Now Farrell has raised his ugly little head, I hope Alex lets the Elves know about his meeting! Making arrangments in Valmar. Huggs, Lynda

Author's reply

Hi Lynda. It does look like fun, doesn't it? I wish they'd done things like that when I was in college, but then mine wasn't run by Elves (that I know of) LOL! And Alex is stuck with Elurín. It's obvious that the Valar wish for him to have that name and Glorfndel isn't that brave. We'll see what's up with Farrell in the very next chapter. Valmar.... so lovely this time of year. *grin* Thanks for commenting. It's much appreciated.

UTfrog · 13 April 2012 · Chapter 26: The Name Game

So glad Finway showed up to make things clear Ha! Great chapter though and wonderful cliffhanger for Monday. Thanks.

Author's reply

Hi UTfrog. Glad you liked the chapter and the cliffhanger. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it.

Erulisse (one L) · 13 April 2012 · Chapter 26: The Name Game

Whoa, what a chapter. Something that started out so happy-go-lucky turned malevolent by the end. Alex's name was a shock, totally unexpected, and it is disturbing that he didn't contact anyone about the 9:00 am meeting. So, our earstwhile 'hero' may end up experiencing more of Elurin's life than anyone might think. But the trees have sheltered him before... Ah well, i'll just have to be patient... - Erulisse (one L)

Author's reply

Hi Erulisse. Alex is very much a loner and used to not having back up, so calling on the Elves isn't something he would do automatically in a situation such as this. As to what happens when he and Farrell meet... well, we'll find out soon enough. Thanks for reading and reviewing. It's much appreciated.

Sunny · 13 April 2012 · Chapter 26: The Name Game

Fun and games - and the Valar added a small touch of their own to the fun, what with arranging for the "right" Nom d' Elf for Alex. And I guess that from Glorfindel's statements, Maglor won't be making an appearance, even by proxy. The reasoning behind the "reserved" names is sound - who would want to be saddled with a name like Maeglin or Eöl? I suppose those names aren't bad in themselves, it is more the history associated with them. And I'd guess that half the reason for Glorfindel reserving Eluréd and Elurín's names is that he feels avuncular or big-brotherly about them, due to the time he spent with them in Mandos. Not that he would want to talk about that, I think. But at least Alex' reaction to his Nom d' Elf was perfect. :-D And now Alex has met one of the Maiar as well (and Fionwë was wearing his usual Medieval getup, but the flaming sword was at least in its scabbard). That went fairly well - at least he did not faint or get a fit - and his little remark, "So what does that make me, besides very confused?" is perfection itself. Uh-oh - now what is Farrell up to??

Author's reply

Hi Sunny. It amazes me how many people have Maglor on their minds, but no, in this particular story, he makes no appearance, even by proxy. And it does make sense that certain names would not be used because of the conotation attached to them, even though the names themselves are not bad. And I suspect that Glorfindel's reasons for leaving out Elurín and Eluréd's names are as you say. Fionwë does know how to be circumspect if he wants to be. *grin* As for Farrell... we'll find out in the next chapter what he's up to. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

Midnight Promise · 11 April 2012 · Chapter 25: Delving into the Past

Fair Greetings! I haven't reviewed your stories for long time, but I HAVE been trying (and succeeding ;)) in keeping up with them. I have to say, while I was excited for your new material, I was a bit disappointed when I saw it was Elf Academy and not the story about Maglor. But now, reading this - I am stoked. And worried. Alex attracts as much trouble as Aragorn did! :D Let the "fun" continue! ;D When I read the first Elf Academy, I was wondering if there were ever going to be scenes from Aman and our favorite characters there. But considering that the story was just beginning to get established (in the way of the Elves adapting to their new roles), I could see little reason to do an Aman scene. Reading this second story though - I see a lot of reasons to do one! Those bets placed (;) Haha) by the Valar; Aman's preparations for the Final Battle; Alex's connection to Bregdal...I even wonder if there had been any messages passed from Glorfindel to his "family" via one of the Maiar? Hmm, reader speculation - I guess I just REALLY want to see the Aman characters during this time period. :3 You have mentioned several times that Alex's blood (elven, etc.)is pretty diluted, but since he is having these memories, would that somehow trigger some things of his ancestry? Foresight, perhaps? Haha, so many questions! :) I always look forward to Mondays and Fridays; if there could be a chapter every day, I would be ecstatic, but I guess I will have to be patient during these cliff-hangers. ;-) Hope your week is wonderful! Best, MP

Author's reply

Hi MP. Everyone wants Maglor! Well, I promised Sunny that I would write him after I finished with Elf Academy, so you'll just have to be patient. Anyway, in spite of your disappointment, I'm glad you are enjoying this installment of the trials and tribulations of the Elves at Elf Academy. We may not see scenes in Aman, but we may see the Aman characters (or some of them) in one form or another. And I wouldn't be surprised if Alex has a little bit of precognition in his blood, given who he is. I know a lot of people who would like to see a chapter every day but I can't write that fast. LOL! Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. I appreciate it very much.

Larner · 9 April 2012 · Chapter 25: Delving into the Past

He is having a time of it, switching between the memories of these various characters. And to remember the wolf like that...Shudder!

Author's reply

It is disconcerting, that's for sure, Larner. Luckily, he has Vorondur, Amroth and Glorfindel to help him through this. Thanks for commenting. It's much appreciated.

Lizbeth · 9 April 2012 · Chapter 25: Delving into the Past

Yum, minestrone. And now I'm hungry, thank you so very much. *grin* I'm glad that Alex told the elves about how much he was enjoying the chance to invent a "good" character. It's too bad that it was interrupted in the way that it was, but there seem to be more and more hints of his "light" side lately. I especially liked his excitement about the snow at the end of the chapter. Hurrah for Finway! *LOL* I do wonder what Alex was about to do. My first thought was that he was going to "slip his leash," but I thought that only elves could do that? I'm loving all the little details and connections that are being made here between characters and other stories that you've written.

Author's reply

Hi Lisbeth. I don't think he was about to 'slip his leash' so much as trash the library. LOL! Luckily, Fionwë was on duty so he could step in and lend a hand. I'm glad you like the little details and connections. I think it adds depth to the stories and the characters. Thanks for taking the time to read and review. I appreciate it very much.

Lyana · 9 April 2012 · Chapter 25: Delving into the Past

You know, every Monday and Friday, I tell myself that I will be good and not read the new chapter the first instant possible after I wake up - I'll wait until I have a leisurely moment where I can really savor it. And every Monday and Friday so far, I've failed miserably. Oh well... I guess there are other worse vices! :-) It's seeming more and more like somebody at the Agency has had it in for Amroth for a long time - it looks like someone reprogrammed Alex to go ballistic when the failsafe word was used (or was that a side-effect of nearly dying?). Would Amroth really have been able to overcome Alex if it took four elves to subdue him? Perhaps the Valar are protecting more than just Alex. Hmmmm... And is Alex adding "Attempted Leash Slipping" to his resume now?!? To re-live Sauron's dungeon - poor guy. Good thing Fionwe's hanging around since they were one short of the number needed to subdue him the last time! Well, that, and I can't help but think that a Maia's embrace would be that much more comforting for a troubled soul - he's certainly acting like a re-born. I must concur with another commenter's thought that there are a fair number of bets changing hands in Aman - would love to be a fly on the wall there!

Author's reply

Hi Lyana. Yes, when he went ballistic the first time it was because the failsafe word actually failed but set him off instead and that was all due to him having nearly died. The barriers were eroded and things got screwed up. In this instance, however, he was merely reacting to a dark memory. Luckily, before he could do much damage to himself or the others, Fionwë was there to calm him down. I'm sure there are any number of bets changing hands in Aman with all the things that are happening in and around Elf Academy. *grin* Thanks for reviewing. I really appreciate it.

Fantasia · 9 April 2012 · Chapter 25: Delving into the Past

Yeah, definitively an exorcism for Alex...It is so confusing!!!Finway!!! well at least they can count with reinforcements, very high qualified reinforcements.

Author's reply

Hi Fantasia. So it would seem, but I doubt it would do any good. *grin* Anyway, thanks for commenting. I appreciate it.
