Not too sure I like the way Alex has forced the Elves hands in this, I wish he had gone to them first. He is more than a little ratteled still. I think he needs to go on a very long holiday after this, maybe somewhere quiet, with soft sauishy walls,!? I do like the thought of Glorfi looking like one of the spies from Mad Magazine, except he has pointed ears not a pointed nose! Ah, Elves the original Ninja Warriors! Think I am getting a little silly here! Having an a'mazing' time! Thinking of you. Huggs, Lynda

Author's reply

Hi Lynda. Alex was a bit high-handed here and should've consulted with Amroth first, but he's young (sort of). This was a fun chapter to read with all the "spy-comes-in-from-the-cold" motifs and everything. *grin* And you gotta love those mazes. LOL! Thanks for commenting. I appreciate it very much.

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 23 April 2012 · Chapter 28: Confrontation

Atto, Well, it was about time Alex exploded...I was pretty sure it would happen soon, after Farrell was being so...Farrell. (His first name's not Will, is it? *snicker* Just checking...) Anyway, poor Fionwe's not going to live this down until Dagor Dagorath, is he? *sighs and hugs Fionwe* I love him, he's one of my most favorite Maiar. But he seems to end up on the wrong end of Alex's temper quite a lot lately. I wonder if Manwe set Fionwe to watch Alex? ...Or to watch Farrell? Now there's a thought... Tye-melin, Kaylee!

Author's reply

Hi Kaylee. Yes, Alex's explosion was a bit overdue. And Fionwë will survive. He'll take the ribbing from his fellow Maiar in good stride. As to who he's been set to watch, now that's a good question. Maybe someday we'll find out for sure. Thanks for commenting. Tye-melin

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 23 April 2012 · Chapter 27: Café Encounters of the Strange Kind

Atya, Well, I knew this had to be coming ever since the sequel showed up. Nate and Esther can't keep their noses out of things. I suppose I was hoping there would be...oh, hmm, let's see...Nate's wife, running the local clothing store and dropping in, or hmm, maybe Nate's brother, who happens to be married to Esther, coincidentally, and their older sister? *grin* I love Namo here, but since I always love him, that's not much of a surprise, is it? I *don't* love Farrell, however. Oh, he's a great character, don't get me wrong, the kind I love to hate. :P But he's ick, as Thranduil would say in mine and Emma's stories. (Well, Thranduil's an elfling, so we can cut him some slack. Hehe.) I'd love to see Farrell taken down a few pegs. Did Maddy send him, really? Or has he got his own thing going on? Tye-melin, Kaylee

Author's reply

Hi Kaylee. I think "Esther" and "Nate" have decided they "own" the café and won't let any of the other Valar play in it. LOL! As for Farrell... ick just about describes him. We'll see what he's all about eventually. In the meantime, just enjoy hating him. LOL! Thanks for commenting. I appreciate it. Tye-melin.

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 23 April 2012 · Chapter 26: The Name Game

Atto, *eyebrows rise sharply* *Elurin*? As in, Remembrance of Elu, as you said. As in, THAT Elurin. Well...what the heck was going on THERE? Are the Valar trying to proclaim Alex's heritage to all and sundry? Hmm... Very tricky, those Valar. And Maiar. I still haven't forgotten you, "Finway". *snort* (Side Note: I thought he'd said "Finwe" instead of Fionwe, and got totally confused, lol.) Poor Alex, this just gets worse and worse for him, lol. Tye-melin, Kaylee

Author's reply

Hi Kaylee. Well, Alex heard "finway" without making the connection to Finwë, which is why Glorfindel and Ron were a bit confused for a second until they realized what he was talking about. Poor Alex, indeed. *snicker* Thanks for commenting. Tye-melin.

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 23 April 2012 · Chapter 25: Delving into the Past

Sorry I haven't been around lately, Atto. Emma's still here, her laptop's out of commission and she's been using mine. Hopefully it'll be fixed by today or tomorrow. Anyway, this is my day for review catchup. I *have* had enough time to read all the chapters, just not to write proper reviews...lol, you know how I am, just "Hi Atto, I liked it!" doesn't do it for me. *grin* Anyway, so here we find Alex channeling Ron's nephew. It was hard enough for him to buy being the descendant of the Trouble Twins' sister (and has he actually figured that out, yet?) but Bregalad, in addition... (By the way, am I the only one who finds it funny that "Roy" and "Dan" gave their surname as "Ronaldson" and Vorondur is "Ron"? Puts a whole new spin on that, for me. Randomly reminded of it, lol.) Poor Alex, with his whole channeling Beren/Bregalad. *hugs Alex* Tye-melin, Kaylee

Author's reply

Hi Kaylee. Yeah, it is kind of funny, but unintentional, since they did not know Ron when they devised their Mortal surname. And, no, I don't think Alex has figured out the relationship between him and the Twins. That will be another shock when he realizes it. Thanks for commenting. Tye-melin.

harrowcat · 23 April 2012 · Chapter 29: Gambit

Another wow of a chapter regarding reactions. And I am glad that Alex is getting a chance at the counselling. I love the bit about being on the side of the angels - literally. Thinking of you and, I hope you don't mind but I have friended you on LJ - I usually ask forst so if you want I will take you off again.

Author's reply

Hi harrowcat. I don't mind that you've friended me on LJ, but I haven't updated my account there in maybe 4 years and it's unlikely I ever will. I really am too busy with my life to spend it at LJ, just so you know. I'm glad you liked the 'side of the angels - literally' part. And Alex certainly does need lots of counselling. The surgery I was scheduled for had to be postponed until NEXT Monday for reasons I don't care to go into here, though I will say that it was not my fault but the doctors for not following through on certain things that were critical for the type of surgery I'm facing. So my readers have a slight reprive until next week and I promise it won't be quite a cliffhanger as this one is. Anyway, thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

UTfrog · 23 April 2012 · Chapter 29: Gambit

Cliffhangers! You are very good at them. Good chapter, but terrible place to leave us hanging. Read your closing message. Whatever you are dealing with, I pray all will go well with you. What is strange is before I opened the new chapter, I decided that part of my review would include a huge thank you for your utter reliability in posting. That thank you still stands. I have no idea how you can live a normal life and still faithfully post on schedule. Only the best for you.

Author's reply

Hi UTfrog. Well, at least for this week you'll get the usual Friday update. Certain plans were changed (stupid doctors; Lord Elrond would never be that stupid) and I have to wait another week before the procedure I was scheduled for today can be done. *sigh* But I will welcome your prayers now and next week. And I post on schedule because I write everyday, even on the weekends. Before I even go to my 40 hour/week job, I write for at least an hour in the morning. I actually have 30 chapters beyond this one written, waiting to be posted, and the story is still not done! So, there you are. And thank you for being a faithful reviewer. I appreciate it more than words can say.

Kitty · 22 April 2012 · Chapter 28: Confrontation

Ouch. What a way to say hi to Amroth! But I guess it was only to be expected that Alex would snap at one point in time. The shocks are just coming too quickly and he never gets time to work through it before the next one hits. It's probably luckily that it happened in Edhellond, not in the Academy. I don't want to think about the reactions if one of the other students had witnessed that. Or worse, if Alex had attacked one of them in his fury. While it's true that Amroth can take care of himself, I still find it nice that Alex is so upset because he thinks he can't protect Amroth when he doesn't have all the fact. That he freaks out because he wants to protect him makes him so much more likeable. Glorfindel's reaction to Alex calling Námo "that Námo dude" made me snicker. Our dear Glorfindel wasn't always the most respectful of the lot when it came to the Valar, after all. Not to mention when he quoted what the High King once said about the Valar and Elves ... *lol* Ah, good memories ... Oh. When Farrell mentioned he tried to grab Amroth, I thought more of an attempt at kidnapping or kill him at close range. Never thought of a car bomb. What an idiot, what if there were more people around? No matter if agents have to take someone out now and then, to me he sounds much more like a terrorist with a personal vendetta than an agent. Now I wonder what would happen if Alex inquired in Washington about him? I am really wondering who Farrell is. Could he be the son or another close relative of the guy Amroth killed to get away who seeks revenge after somehow finding out who killed him? Alex could insist that Ryan McKinley can't be Ambrose because the latter would have to be around 75 already and Ryan certainly doesn't look that old ... I doubt even surgery could make someone look 50 years younger. But now I have another worry – what if Farrell noticed that Alex went straight from the Café to Edhellond? That would be suspicious. Btw, on a somewhat unrelated note, I was recently cataloguing a fantasy novel about Elves. Reading the dust jacket text, I stumbled over a character named Glendorfil. Can you imagine that I did a double take? A test with paper and pen confirmed it was an anagram of Glorfindel. Guess I know where the name came from ;)

Author's reply

Hi Kitty. Alex feels very proprietarily towards Amroth, seeing him as the father he never knew or had and so he wants to protect him. He hasn't reached the realization that Amroth is more than capable of protecting himself and has been doing so for longer than Alex can comprephend. But that he wants to protect Amroth does show him to be a 'good guy' at heart. As for Farrell, the whys and wherefores of the man will eventually become clearer as we reach the story's end, though that will be a while so you'll just have to be patient. That's a good point about the age difference between 'Elwood' and 'McKinley' and something that Alex and Amroth will need to stress when they are trying to convince the Agency that the two men are not one and the same. We'll see how successful they are in that. And that's very interesting. I saw right away that Glendorfil was an anagram of Glorfindel. Whoever the author was s/he was very unimaginative. I could do better, and in fact, I have. LOL! Thanks for taking the time to read and commment. I appreciate it very much.

harrowcat · 22 April 2012 · Chapter 28: Confrontation

Alex definitely needs some integration time and I am glad that his 'overreaction' happened in a safe place! And poor Fionwe should know better than to sneak up behind people. Great chapter. Wishing you the best and sending good thoughts for Monday.

Author's reply

Hi harrowcat. That, he certainly does need and hopefully he'll get it if everyone would just leave him along long enough. Glad you liked the chapter. Thanks for your good wishes. I appreciate them and your comments very much.

obsidianj · 21 April 2012 · Chapter 28: Confrontation

That was one shock too much. But at least Alex had his meltdown in Edhellond and not at the academy. I liked it that he reacted so badly to Amroth calling him Artemus. It seems subconsciously he wants to be Alex, although he is not ready to admit it. What was Fionwe thinking popping up right behind Alex? Not a smart move. Now what to do with Farrell? That guy annoys me more and more, putting a bomb under Amroth car! Does he want a public spectacle? Wouldn't the Agency want Amroth out of the way quietly, so that not too many questions are asked? A bomb going of in sleepy Wiseman, Alaska would draw a lot of attention.

Author's reply

Hi obsidianj. Definitely one shock too many, and maybe that was the point, to get him well over the tipping point and get him started on the road to acceptance. He, more than any other student at the Academy, has needed his worldview totally destroyed in order for him to come to acceptance of the actual reality around him: Elves, Maiar and Valar. And 'Alex' is beginning to hate 'Artemus' very much and we will see him struggling with that as the story progresses. Fionwë, on the other hand, got just what he deserved, the stupid Maia. I'm sure Eönwë and his brethren tweaked him about it for a very long time. LOL! Farrell, of course, has his own agenda and isn't playing by the rules. The reason for that will become clear eventually. For now, we just have to accept that he's a loose cannon there to make life interesting for Alex and Amroth. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

UTfrog · 20 April 2012 · Chapter 28: Confrontation

Poor Alex. He is enduring some heavy shocks. I dearly hope you (or perhaps Lord Namo) have something nasty in mind for Farrell. His lack of concern for collateral damage is truly scary.

Author's reply

Hi UTfrog. Very heave shocks, indeed. As for Farrell... we're working on it. LOL! Thanks for commenting. I appreciate it very much.

Sunny · 20 April 2012 · Chapter 28: Confrontation

Delayed reactions, indeed! I would actually have been really worried if Alex had sauntered off as if nothing at all had happened in the cafe. He has after all had a rather stressful time of it recently. Between (almost) dying, finding out that there really are such things as Elves in the world and that his mentor (and father figure!) is one of them, meeting a Maia, the pressure from Farrell, culminating in the meeting in the cafe, and as the cherry on top of the pile of other things, he has now also met two of the Valar face-to-face. I wonder if Fionwë i going to get teased by his fellow Maiar for letting a Mortal attack him and throw him? In any case, popping out of thin air like he did was not really a good move on his part, given Alex' mental state. ;-) Looks as if the calm-down trick Fionwë performed on Alex worked. He seems to be in a fairly normal state right now, though still quite worried about his roommate. And he knows the real purpose of the Academy. He also seems to have come down on the side of the Elves, though it may take his conscious mind some time to catch up with that. ;-)

Author's reply

Hi Sunny. Alex has had quite a lot of shocks thrown at him in a relatively short period of time, so it's no wonder it's finally caught up with him. I bet Fionwë will get a lot of teasing, especially from Manveru, Erunáro and Olórin, not to mention Eönwë. It's going to be ages (literally) before he lives that one down. *grin* Alex isn't quite ready to commit himself to the Elves' cause yet but he will be soon enough as we will see. Anyway, thanks for commenting. I appreciate it very much.

Lyana · 20 April 2012 · Chapter 28: Confrontation

Well, if he was going to flip out, Edhellond's a good place for a meltdown. He still hasn't fully come to the understanding of how very different the Elves are, but he's getting there. And sneaky, trixy Fionwe! LOL - looks like he learned something about the capabilities of mortals! I think Elladan and Elrohir need to give Alex some "workout" opportunities like the Maiar gave Glorfindel once upon a time... Love Alex's concern for Derrick - I wonder how long it's been since he had a friend?

Author's reply

Hi Lyana. I suppose Edhellond is a better place for flipping out than elsewhere, especially the Academy. That wouldn't have been a good thing for others to witness. Hopefully Fionwë did learn not to underestimate the capabilities of Mortals. I think you're right about Elladan and Elrohir giving Alex a good workout. And the last Friend Alex had was the one he had to kill, as he explained to Farrell at the café, so you can imagine what that must be like for him. Having Derek as a friend will help save him im more ways than one. Thanks for taking the time to read and review. It's very much appreciated.

Fantasia · 20 April 2012 · Chapter 28: Confrontation

This is becoming the most used phrase in my reviews: Poor Alex! But I agree with him that they should not treat him like a child. I think that Amroth is doing just that and Alex deserves respect and they do need his help. Sometimes I think that the elves are a little patronizing, yes, they are immortal, more experienced but mortals are as good and important and smart as them. The elves tend to forget that. If there are something that I don't like about the elves, it is their subestimation of human strengths and they definitively have a superior complex, which is true, but no need to gloat. I always cheered that it was the Human race the one that took Sauron down at the end (yes, some help from the elves, OK, OK) Love Glorfindel and Fionwe.

Author's reply

Hi Fantasia. The Elves still have much to learn about how to deal with Mortals and there will come a time later in the story when that will be driven home to them in a rather unique way. Even though they've lived among Mortals for so long, they've never lived *with* them and they're so used to going it alone, they don't know how to 'play nicely with others' yet. *grin* Glad you liked Glorfindel and Fionwë in this chapter. Thanks for leaving a comment. I appreciate it very much.

Soledad · 20 April 2012 · Chapter 28: Confrontation

Psychopathic terrorists I can deal with; Elves and angels and the end of the world are a different kettle of fish. *keels over in laughter* How very true! At least Alex knows now what exactly he's dealing with. How he's going to deal with that's another cup of tea, of course. Now, if they would only deal with Farrell, once and forever, that would be nice. I'm just afraid that Derek might turn out not quite the nice, simple guy he seems to be. It would be a crying shame. I like Derek. Oh, and I liked Fionwë learning by experience not to underestimate a mere mortal.

Author's reply

Hi Soledad. I thought that was pretty funny, too. *grin* It's really all a matter of perspective, I suppose. As for Derek... don't worry, he's a good guy, I promise, and he'll be playing a more active role soon enough. And even Maiar can learn something new after all these ages. *grin* Thanks for reading and reviewing. It's very much appreciated.

6336 · 20 April 2012 · Chapter 28: Confrontation

Well I suppose Alex was due a hissy fit, it's been one thing after another for him, he needs a couple of days just to sit and think. The way things are going though I don't think he is going to get that oppurtunity. Fionwe is almost as bad as Manveru and Erunaro for joking around, I seem to remember Eonwe complaining about them one time. Still I don't suppose it hurts to have a little fun when doing your job. Creeping up on Alex the way he did, the kind of mood Alex was in, was not one of his smartest moves though! Farrell, Farrell, Farrell, what are we to do with you, just how many people does he have with him and does Maddie really know what he is doing? I have a feeling he is going well beyond the parameters he has been given. Waiting for Monday and thinking good thoughts. Investing Cano's! Huggs, Lynda

Author's reply

Hi Lynda. The hissy fit was way overdue. And Fionwë is right up there with the Maiarin Twins. The three of them are the bane of Lord Manwë' existence. *grin* And he didn't so much creep up on him, but he'll know better than to show up *behind* Alex again. And Farrell is something else altogether. Hopefully he'll be dealt with somehow before the end. Thanks for the good thoughts and thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

Larner · 20 April 2012 · Chapter 28: Confrontation

He is getting overwhelmed, and I don't blame him for overreacting. Now, to somehow neutralize Farrell and learn who else is supposedly working with the fool. And to realize who is Morgoth's lieutenant this time, and why s/he is seeking to work through Farrell.

Author's reply

It is overwhelming for Alex and he hasn't had time process everything yet. It'll take a little time for him to get used to certain truths. In the meantime, we will see how he decides to deal with Farrell and whoever is working with him. Thanks for commenting, Larner. I really appreciate it.

someone · 20 April 2012 · Chapter 28: Confrontation

This is getting serious. I didn't think that Farrel would have done something so noticeable as put a bomb under Amroth's car, who knows who else would have died if it had worked! They definitely need to get rid of Farrel, as soon as possible. That asassination attempt just proved that he really could blow up the entire Academy. Well, if anyone knows what it feels like when the Valar are meddling, it is Glorfindel. I keep worrying that Alex will one day have enough of Elves and Valar and everything else and turn against them, but somehow it feels like the plot needs him to unite with the group running the Academy.

Author's reply

Hi someone. Yeah, Farrell is a piece of work, that's for sure. And the Academy definitely needs Alex on its side, which is why the Valar made it so he would come there. Not that it'll be smooth sailing for either him or the Elves, but eventually, they will need to become true allies if they are to get Farrell and the Agency off their backs. Anyway, thanks for leaving a comment. I appreciate it very much.

Idril Celebrindal · 20 April 2012 · Chapter 28: Confrontation

Its really sad for me that I didn't want to get out of bed this morning than I see I there is a new chapter and I jump out of bed to read it before work! Great for you! LOL I hope Farrell gets his due! LOL

Author's reply

Hi Idril. A good reason to get out of bed on a Friday. LOL! I'm sure Farrell will get his due in some form or another. We'll just have to wait and see. Thanks for reading and reviewing. It's very much appreciated.

Tari · 17 April 2012 · Chapter 27: Café Encounters of the Strange Kind

Oh, this is sooooo good. Farrell is so sinister. I wouldn't trust him any further than I could throw him. I doubt he will get the best of Alex. He just doesn't know who he is dealing with. Three cheers for the Elves and Valar.

Author's reply

Hi Tari. Glad you liked the chapter. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it.

harrowcat · 17 April 2012 · Chapter 27: Café Encounters of the Strange Kind

I was praying that Esther and Nate would turn up when I saw the venue for the meet. And Namo's outfit is definitely coffee-splurting material! But, poor trade craft Alex, picking up your phone as soon as you leave the cafe. Farrell is just as likely to be hanging about or another spy...er make that intelligence officer! And this idea of McKinley not being Ambrose has distinct possibilities but, knowing you, it won't be the whole solution. Great reading.

Author's reply

Hi Harrocat. You may be right about Alex's poor trade craft, but I don't think he's thinking too straight at the moment... too many shocks all at once. As for the McKinley not being Ambrose idea... you'll just have to wait and see how that works. Thanks for leaving I comment. I'm glad you enjoyed this chapter.

Agape4Gondor · 16 April 2012 · Chapter 27: Café Encounters of the Strange Kind

Gave me chills to think that Farrell had already tried to 'take down' Amroth. I wonder if the Elf was aware? Can't wait til the next and the next and the next chapters..... *g*

Author's reply

Hi Agape. We'll find out whether or not Amroth was aware of what Farrell tried to do in a later chapter. Glad you are looking forward to reading more. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it.

Lizbeth · 16 April 2012 · Chapter 27: Café Encounters of the Strange Kind

Farrell has gone too far, if he's already tried to "grab" Amroth! I wonder who else he has gathering information and am very glad to see that Alex is going straight to Amroth this time. Looking forward to hearing that conversation. The restaurant scene was wonderful: "Esther" popping in and out and driving Farrell crazy, Namo in a skull and crossbones cap and plaid shirt, and the fear of poisoned pie! *laughing* Poor Alex for going through yet another shock, but really, that was a perfect mix of suspense and humor.

Author's reply

Hi Lizbeth. Yeah, Farrell's a loose cannon, all right. Glad you enjoyed the restaurant scene. It's always a hoot watching "Esther" and "Nate" playing with the Mortals. *grin* Thanks for leaving a comment. It's much appreciated.

Larner · 16 April 2012 · Chapter 27: Café Encounters of the Strange Kind

I'd suspected the identity of "Esther," but hadn't expected "Nate" to show up right then. As for the baseball cap and its decorations--oh, but we do have an ironic turn of mind, don't we? And Farrell, I'd guess, is being directed by the Black Enemy's most current lieutenant for reasons of his own. He is a real slimeball in his own right!

Author's reply

A very ironic turn of mind, indeed, Larner. I'm glad "Nate's" appearance was a surprise. He's a lot of fun. As for Farrell... you may be closer to the truth than you realize, though if it is true, Farrell is an unwitting tool. We'll have to see how things go. Thanks for taking the time to read and review. I appreciate it very much.

Kitty · 16 April 2012 · Chapter 27: Café Encounters of the Strange Kind

Admittedly, I'd feel better if Alex had told Glorfindel and our dear balrog-slayer had assigned some silent watch. I don't trust that Farrell any further than I can throw him. Though Alex is probably too used to doing everything alone, and I understand that he doesn't want to reveal his connections too early. Esther? Ah good – now I feel much better! Even though I suspect that a certain Maia is around. Farrell, however ... that guy gets more and more suspicious and annoying. He's way too focused on taking out Amroth, even before the observation through Alex gives him or their superiors any knowledge. Why? Does he feel threatened by Amroth more than the situation warrants? And is he really acting on orders of Maddy Washburn, or on his own? Nice double meaning about Amroth not knowing who Alex really was *grin* But I really wanted to kick Farrell when he asked why Alex hadn't used the weekend to kill Amroth. Do you think Námo would mind terribly if that one had a fatal accident very soon? I don't like the idea of Farrell running free, he's way too dangerous. Particularly when he now thinks about threatening Nimrodel as well. He makes the impression that he wants to kill Amroth, no matter if that is justified or not, and as many others as possible. Sounds more like a terrorist than an agent, as far as I am concerned ... Anyway, I wonder how he keeps tabs on Alex. Hopefully Derek isn't involved in that, I really like that guy. Though if he's not, then he's probably in a lot of danger as well. Besides, I had been a bit worried how Alex was going to deal with Farrell, seeing how upset the poor guy already was, so I was rather pleased to see how he so firmly put him in his place. Well done, Alex! Of course, you had to end that visit to the Café with another shock for the poor guy and introduce him to the Valar! Not sure if it will make him more upset or feel that he's not alone ... Glad to know Alex has the good sense to talk with Amroth now. They really need to work out what to do, that's something Alex can't deal with alone. Of course, now I'm nervous and worried ... and will probably be for many more chapters to come.

Author's reply

Hi Kitty. Yes, Farrell ooes sound more like a terrorist than an agent. He obviously has little or no regard for human life with his unconcern about collateral damage. I imagine a lot of people are like him to one degree or another. As for Alex talking with Amroth... well, there's talking and then, again, there's talking. *grin* We'll see how it works out in the next chapter. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it.
