Larner · 24 May 2007 · Chapter 1: The Troll Under the Bed
I fear I've let this story rather languish for a time and can't quite say why, but I finally have time to begin reading a new author's stories and this has come up to the top. Still another look at how Frodo and Sam met, and I quite enjoy it. I also have my own ideas as to aging not being quite 2/3s the aging of Men, but that's neither here nor there--am glad your equivalency works for you. Love the meeting with the Gamgees and Bell's advice to the Gaffer, and love Frodo's settling in.
Elemmírë · 15 January 2007 · Chapter 54: Presumption and Prejudice
Oh no! Lobelia has the One Ring! I certainly hope she never gets the inclination to put it on, for one. Two, that Lotho never sees sight nor hold of it. And three, that the Ring is returned to where it should be when Bilbo returns to kick their sorry bums out of Bag End. Then entire bit with the Gamgees increasing worry over Frodo culmination with his and the Gaffer's conversation was just perfect. Can't wait until you post the next chapter! I'm interested to see where you go with this when Saradoc and Paladin receive their letters from Frodo. (Here's to also hoping that Gandalf will make an unexpected visit to Bag End. After all, a wizard arrives precisely when he needs ... umm, means to. ~Elemmírë~
Author's reply
Well, maybe Lobelia only happens to try it on when she's alone, and hasn't yet figured out it makes her invisible. An invisible Lobelia sneaking around is a can of worms I don't want to open! ;) Thanks so much for reading.
GamgeeFest · 14 January 2007 · Chapter 54: Presumption and Prejudice
I forgot the reason why Bilbo left his ring behind. Seems an odd thing for him to do, and if he hoped to keep it safe, he couldn't have been more wrong. Lobelia with the ring makes me shiver. At least now the Gamgees now what's going on with Frodo and maybe the Thain and Master will be making an appearance soon. *crosses fingers* And I adored the little scene with Marigold worrying about her pet mouse. :D
Author's reply
I'm pretty sure no reason was given for Bilbo leaving his ring behind. Hmm... Thanks for reviewing! :)
Althea · 14 January 2007 · Chapter 54: Presumption and Prejudice
What a chapter! I feel so sorry for Frodo. His life with the SB's is a misery for sure. I admire him, though, for refusing to leave Bag End. I'm glad that the Gaffer has finally discovered the truth of the situation and that Frodo no longer feels the need to hide away from the Gamgees. He needs their loving support. I do hope that the letters Frodo has written will get through all right and that help will soon be on the way. Lobelia's possession of the ring is quite disturbing. I'm looking forward to the next installment.
Author's reply
Thanks for reading! I can never get enough of the Gamgees being supportive. After all, if they're willing to have their youngest son go off with Frodo on a dangerous quest in a few years, they must have built quite a special relationship with Frodo. Or so I tell myself. :)
Tathar · 13 January 2007 · Chapter 54: Presumption and Prejudice
Oh my goodness, Commander. This chapter deserves a standing ovation: *gravely rises and claps enthusiastically* Seriously, I'm floored. I don't know what in particular it was that really struck me... I think it was mostly the scene between Frodo and the Gaffer at the end. That was BRILLIANT! I don't know how you do it, Commander. You know very well that I adore the Gaffer, and I just love your characterization of him. Spot-on. And Frodo as well, of course, but that's just a given. I was hoping the Gaffer would be the one to find out! Oooooh, and he reacted even better than I'd expected, too. Heh heh heh... Wow. This one is heading to the top of my Favorite Chapters From Anchored and Adrift list. (Not that I remember the others, mind you, and naturally ALL of your chapters are amazing, but I know that there must have been a few that really stood out before. Probably the ones with Folco and Willow in them particularly... *makes Daisy face*) Oh yes, and I was highly amused by Halfred in this chapter, too. For whatever reason, him "snickering into his cup of milk" was extremely funny. :P It took me a moment to remember that Halfred was the Gamgee that I'd had in ASL all those eons ago, which explains why I was feeling inexplicably fond of him throughout this chapter. *rolls eyes* Anyway, as I said, this is a truly excellent chapter, Commander! I am excited to see you top it, as I am sure you shall. And I hope you realize that I'll expect you to update this quickly from now on, right? ;) *gravely hugs and salutes* (Yup, still on that mocha-induced caffeine buzz....)
Author's reply
Wow, I don't think I've ever gotten a standing ovation before, let alone a GRAVE one! :P *bows gravely* I suspected you would like the scene between Frodo and the Gaffer, since it was my favourite as well. I think I was actually squealing and cackling out loud as I was writing it. WIMCLASRM as I reflect upon the utter brainlessness of you forgetting that you're the one who inspired my Halfred's personality. :P And I just posted chapter 56. Your Facebook naggings must be working! *gravely returns hugs and salutes*
shirebound · 13 January 2007 · Chapter 54: Presumption and Prejudice
Ohhh, I don't think I'll be able to bear it, if this goes on much longer! *frets*
Author's reply
I'm sorry. But don't fret too much, I promise there will be a happy ending. Jellyfish's honour! :)
Dreamflower · 13 January 2007 · Chapter 54: Presumption and Prejudice
Oh golly, Lobelia's got her hands on the *RING*! Holy cow! Well, the Gaffer knows now he shouldn't have been jumping to conclusions, and feels properly ashamed. And I do hope those letters to Saradoc and Paladin soon bring Frodo some support. But, oh, *what* could be keeping Bilbo?????
Author's reply
Yeah, scary thought, Lobelia with the Ring...

I'm so glad you've started writing this again! Now I have to go back and reread all the edited chapters. =) I love your Making of a Ringbearer tales. Thanks for sharing them with us!

Thank you so much for reading, and especially for reviewing!
Tathar · 3 January 2007 · Chapter 53: Frodo Sackville-Baggins
Eeeeek, I forgot to leave a review!!! Shame on me. And after you finally updated, too!!! *hangs, er, branches in shame* Anyway, you can probably already guess how much I loved this chapter, and why. ;D Lotho-Frodo confrontations, Frodo standing his ground against the S-Bs, and of COURSE Folco. Aw, Willow's out of town, eh? So sorry, Folco dear. I'm sure she'll be back soon. *makes Daisy face and cackles* *ahem* Um, if I seem more inane than usual it is because (a) I just got to talk to you for a bit on AIM *finally*, and (b) I had a LOT of caffeine today. Apparently it's not quite out of my system yet. @_@ And I don't know if I'll have time to reread all 52 updated chapters (good grief, I can't believe YOU had time to edit them all!), at least not right now. But I'm sure I'll have a hobbity mood at some point (when I'm supposed to be doing schoolwork or something, most likely) and just sit down and at least read some of them. Not that I'll remember what's been changed, of course, but I could probably do with a review. :P At any rate, this was an excellent chapter to update with after such a long hiatus, Commander! I commend you, although I was hardly expecting anything less. ;) And yaay, now I have an excuse to nag you horribly until you update again! *cackles some more* *gravely hugs and salutes* *runs off cackling*
Author's reply
*gravely returns hugs and salutes* How sad is it that not only did I forget to reply to your review, but that I don't even remember the chapter you reviewed?! :-\ Very, that's how sad. :P Anyway, I wish to thank you, Lutnant, for your extremely diligent reviewing. Re-reading the edited chapters is not necessary; that's for when you're an elderly Admiral and have forgotten this story even existed. ;) *nods gravely*
Elemmírë · 3 January 2007 · Chapter 53: Frodo Sackville-Baggins
YEAH!!!!! I'm so very happy to see you're finally continuing this again! This series is one of my favorites and I've been dying to know if my suspicion of where the list to Bilbo's witnesses is correct. :D I hope you don't take this the wrong way as I mean it to be complimentary, but this chapter in particular reminded me of Harry Potter and the Dursley's awful treatment of him. Otho, Lobelia, and Lotho are so nasty towards Frodo--they reminded me very much of Uncle Vernon, Aunt Petunia, and Dudley from HP. Poor Frodo, bless him for being brave and sticking it out with the SBs when he could go to Buckland or Tookland. I certainly hope Bilbo comes home soon and relieves his heir of this stressful situation. Very much looking forward to more of this tale, Obelia medusa! ~Elemmírë~
Author's reply
Ah yes, Harry Potter. :) The whole LOTR universe/story reminds me of HP, actually. I can only assume that J.K. Rowling took a lot of her inspiration from Tolkien. I never meant for the S-B's to fill the Dursley role, but it just sort of happened. ;) Thanks for reading, and especially for commenting!
Althea · 31 December 2006 · Chapter 53: Frodo Sackville-Baggins
I am so glad that you are continuing this story. I've had a lovely time cathching up with all that has gone on before. I'm looking forward to reading more. I feel very sorry for Frodo having to live with the S-B's. I'm so glad that the Gamgees are there for him and hope that Frodo finds a copy of Bilbo's will soon.
Author's reply
Thanks for reading! I wouldn't dream of abandoning Frodo to the S-B's for all time. The show must go on!
GamgeeFest · 31 December 2006 · Chapter 53: Frodo Sackville-Baggins
I'm so glad to see an update for this! I was afraid you had abandoned it and that poor Frodo would be stuck living with the S-Bs forever. Lotho is so despicable, but with parents like his its not too hard to understand why he is the way he is. Too bad he couldn't have taken some pointers from Frodo and learned to be compassionate and friendly towards others. I surely hope that Bilbo gets back soon, or that Frodo finds that will!
Author's reply
I felt especially bad about leaving Frodo stuck with the S-B's all this time... Thanks for your patience! :)
shirebound · 29 December 2006 · Chapter 53: Frodo Sackville-Baggins
Yay, I'm so glad you're planning to finish this. One high point of those dark days was the Gamgee family. Without their steadfast loyalty and concern, Frodo’s days would have been darker indeed. Awwww. I certainly hope Bilbo's on his way back!
Author's reply
He'll get there, fear not! :) Might be awhile, though.
Dreamflower · 29 December 2006 · Chapter 53: Frodo Sackville-Baggins
Oh my! This chapter was definitely worth the wait! Now I'm wondering why Lobelia is so certain Bilbo is not coming back? Have she and Otho made arrangements to waylay him and prevent his return? And what a foreshadowing of what will come when Lotho does finally get his hands on Bag End! Poor Frodo--a good thing he has friends like Fatty and Folco! And I hope his Brandybuck relations get wind of what's going on! Dear me! I do hope we don't have to wait quite so long for another update!
Author's reply
Whew, only a slightly-more-than-two-week wait this time. Just call me Obelia "kind of speedy" Medusa. ;) I do enjoy foreshadowing, even when we all know what's going to happen with Lotho. And I believe we will hear from the Brandybucks in the next chapter. Thank you for your patience! :)
middlepiglet · 29 December 2006 · Chapter 53: Frodo Sackville-Baggins
What a wonderful treat it was to open up Stories OF Arda and find this update, I have enjoyed this tale very much. Can't wait for Bilbo to come home and deal with those nasty S&B's, What a chapter that will make.
Author's reply
You'll have to wait awhile for that chapter I'm afraid, but hopefully it will be worth it. Thanks for reading! :)
Glory Underhill · 2 July 2006 · Chapter 52: In Search of Information
Oh, please don't abandon this story. I'm so addicted to it and it's here teetering on this cliff hanger! *bites nails*
Dreamflower · 8 January 2006 · Chapter 52: In Search of Information
Bilbo Baggins! You get yourself *HOME* right now! Poor Frodo, having to put up with the S-Bs! You should never have gone off and left him like that!! And Frodo--send a message to Saradoc, and your grandfather and to Paladin, right away! *sheesh*ready to kick some Sackville-Bagginses all the way to Hardbottle* Oh--and good for the Gaffer and Bell! *They* know what's what!
cher · 8 January 2006 · Chapter 52: In Search of Information
This just gets better and better, Obelia. Now just where DID Bilbo hide that third copy of his will????
shirebound · 28 December 2005 · Chapter 51: A Strange Summons
Ohhh, the FroAngst! Poor boy can't relax for a moment. *grins*
GamgeeFest · 27 December 2005 · Chapter 51: A Strange Summons
I'm surprised Bilbo didn't take the Ring with him. Considering the type of quest Balin was asking him to go on, you'd think he'd realize the value of taking the ring just in case he needs to disappear. Lobelia and Otho are just the scums of the earth. Can't wait for Bilbo to get back and kick them out on their keisters. Poor Frodo though, having to put up with them until then.
Dreamflower · 27 December 2005 · Chapter 51: A Strange Summons
Uh-oh. I knew it. But I'm quite sure Frodo is up to the challenge. And he has allies. Somehow I don't think old Hamfast will be thrilled. And Paladin and Saradoc definitely need to be made aware of what's happened.
