Uh oh!! This has the SBs written all over it. My guess is they were trying to lay hands on/destroy Bilbo's will or Frodo's adoption papers ... or both. Something tells me that Frodo is going to soon be forced to make contact with the Brandybucks or Tooks real soon.
LOL at the Gaffer being discreet and Frodo sneaking out the window!! And loved Bell/Frodo scene as always. Please write more soon!!
Author's reply
Somehow, when bad/sneaky things happen, the SB's always seem to be involved. In this story, anyway. ;P

It's so sweet that Frodo doesn't want to leave Bag End because he's finally found a home, and doesn't want to leave it. And I really snickered at this image:
In any case, every time Frodo stepped out the door now, the Gaffer would appear, seemingly rising right out of the hedge sometimes, to ask where he was going, who he would be with, and what time he expected to return.
Author's reply
I like the idea of the Gaffer trying to be combine overprotectiveness with being discreet. :P

Let me guess: Lobelia, in the records room, with the candlestick? lol. That old goat will try anything to get her hands on Bag End, including destroying the copy of Bilbo's will. Thankfully, Bilbo is a sensible hobbit.
Loved seeing Frodo being "mothered" by Mrs. Gamgee. It's a fact of life that no matter how old we get, those little pats on the hand still mean so much to us. Touch is one of the first sensations we experience and it remains the most reassuring one throughout our lives.
And Frodo escaping out of Bilbo's bedroom window was just priceless. :)
Author's reply
"Lobelia, in the records room, with the candlestick"
ROTFL!! Perhaps, perhaps. 0:-) And I agree about touch; it's always potentially meaningful.

One of the S.-B.s trying to destroy Bilbo's will? But wouldn't they know there'd be a copy in Bag End and maybe with Bilbo's lawyer as well? And the whole idea of seven witnesses is in case the document is destroyed...
Of course, Lotho's never been the brightest candle in the box.
And what's Lobelia got on her twisted mind?
Poor Frodo! The only thing worse than an overt babysitter for an adolescent is one that's being "discreet", LOL!
Author's reply
Oh, don't worry, the S-B's know. I'm not going to let anything stand in the way of the fiendishly evil remaining bullet points in my outline! 0:-)

Oh! Obelia Medusa!! Is that the end of the first book? It was so awesome!! You simply have to write more! You do have such a way with writing and making the reader feel with the characters - a mark of excelent literature!! God Bless, Frodo Baggins

The end?! No way! There's quite a lot left. :) Thank you so much for your comments!

Obelia Medusa!! Wow! I'm in shock at your ability to handle many emotions in one character(Frodo). I am so relieved that you showed Frodo's bad side, and that even he can have "bad days". Every other fic seemed to only show the little angel of a Hobbit, only doing good and handling anger perfectly. Thanks, I'm enjoying this fanfic emmensly!! God Bless, Frodo Baggins

This is marvelous! I love that you bring in Moria here, and have the Dwarves involve Bilbo. Do you know, in one of my stories, I had Balin try to recruit Bilbo to go with him when he went, but it seems Bilbo had just taken on this responsibility...
So, Frodo is Home Alone.
And he's a tweenager.
*grin*
Author's reply
I think Dwarves are sadly underused in hobbit fics! :P Yes, I think I can imagine what responsibility Bilbo had taken on... ;)

How wonderful to find updates to one of my favorite WIPs after being away for so long. I'm just wallowing in new fic today...
What a time poor Frodo was having. I love Pippin's hiding with him.
And Dwarves. I always adore Dwarves visiting Bilbo in the Shire...
on to the next chapter...

I am so happy to finally see another chapter of this tale!!! This is one of the best fics around, IMO.
“I know it isn’t a lark, Bilbo,” Frodo said, brows drawing together. “I didn’t want to come for the fun of it, you know.”
Bilbo sighed, and almost missed Frodo’s next words.
“I wanted to be there to make certain you come back,” the tween finished quietly, looking away.
You write some of the most heartfelt Frodo/Bilbo scenes around; you capture their relationship perfectly.
I wonder what sort of trouble Frodo is going to get himself into while Bilbo's away and I wonder if Lotho will somehow be involved.
I hope that you will continue this very soon.
Author's reply
Thank you so much! The Bilbo-Frodo relationship is very important to me, so it's wonderful to hear that. And you can bet Lotho will definitely be involved. ;)

I really like how honest Bilbo and Frodo are with one another. No secrets, no beating around the bushes.

Hmm, well, I can't imagine not telling my parents if something was upsetting me that much. I like to think of Frodo feeling the same way!

What a few horrible days for Frodo! I've never had heat stroke and now I'm very glad indeed. It is good to see Fatty has been accepted back into the fold and that he's fast become friends again with Folco and Frodo.
Interesting company. Can't wait to see what they've come for.

I've never had heat stroke either, but I remember learning about it in Girl Guides, for some reason. Who would have thought my Guiding days would come in so handy for hobbit fanfic writing? ;)

Well, THAT was well done!!!!! What a cool way to show all your characters coming in and interacting with Frodo. It was so great to realize that we knew who was who, because of the dialogue. That was a tour de force indeed.
And I want to say thank you for a lovely piece of h / c writing, highlighting the sincere love between the characters. I appreciate the way that you never get so, ah, strangely graphic like some writers who focus on the minor and sometimes weirdly chosen details. I won't mention any names here, but again, thanks for not introducing us to a detailed toilet scene or some such tangent.
Here's one of my favorite moments:
“Why, just think of my adventure with the Dwarves,” Bilbo continued. “We weren’t much to look at, and yet we prevailed. What do you think would have happened differently if we’d been five feet tall and strong as ponies?”
Frodo looked blank. “What?”
Bilbo snorted. “Nothing, of course."
In my own writing, I love to include, without getting didactic, some idea for a reader to think over. This is a wonderful example. Great point about the size and strength not making any difference. As I said, you should give up this biology stuff and write full time. You've got the touch to do great things.
Thank you!!!! Thank you for that lovely scene!!! Now, is Frodo going to have a hangover? Or are they going on a new adventure?
Love

Author's reply
Wow, thank you so much. I'm afraid I'll be sticking with the biology stuff long-term, though, even though it does impinge annoyingly on my fanfic writing time! :P Heh, I don't think I could get particularly graphic about the medical stuff even if I wanted to. I tend to put myself in the "shoes" of whatever character whose point of view I'm using, and I'm extremely squeamish when it comes to myself! ;) I'd much rather focus on the feelings and interactions.
That's interesting about including ideas for the reader to think about. I've never thought about that, or done it deliberately, but I like it!

Wow, what an awful bout of heat sickness! It's a relief that Frodo wasn't alone, and I love the teensy and adorable scenes with Pippin. And now... Dwarves!
:D
Author's reply
Oh, I could never have Frodo alone while he's sick. The "c" is the best part of h/c! ;)
Ah, poor sick Frodo, I hope he's feeling better soon. I'm glad to see that Fatty has finally come round and realized what an ass he's been all these years.
:D
Author's reply
Poor Fatty... He only became an ass for many years because I forgot all about the estrangement I created. :-\ Bad Obelia! It's taken me all this time to figure out a way to work him back in!
another great chapter :)
i know this part has already been mentioned, but it was my favorite part...
“You’re all I’ve got, and I expect you to take proper care of yourself. Understand?”
Frodo nodded wordlessly, and smiled slightly.
awww ^_^
Author's reply
Hee, I'm rather fond of that part myself. :) Thanks for reviewing.
This is great!
I loved Pippin's terse and somewhat biased account of what happened, right down to checking his teeth for sharpness. (I wouldn't worry Pip, I'm quite sure Lotho found them more than sharp enough.)
And best of all, Fatty has now firmly rejoined Frodo's camp, where he belonged all along! Yay, Fredegar!
Author's reply
Thanks! Yes, I like to assume that Pippin's teeth were more than up to the challenge. ;)
Heat exhaustion! That's a terrible thing to do to a poor hobbit!
Loved Pippin apologizing for the fact that his teeth weren't sharp enough to hurt Lotho.
Author's reply
That's true... but with all the terrible things done to hobbits on a daily basis by fanfiction writers, at least I'm not alone. ;)
Hello! I wanted to leave the first review, but I see that shirebound beat me to it.
“Confounded headstrong tweenagers,” Bilbo muttered. “They never listen, it seems.” The old hobbit rested a hand lightly on Frodo’s bare chest to get his attention. “Listen to me now, boy.” Bilbo leaned forward and waited for the blue eyes to focus on him. “You’re all I’ve got, and I expect you to take proper care of yourself. Understand?”
Ah, this is my favorite line. Bilbo and Frodo's love for each other. . . the whole foundation of the series of events that took Frodo to Mount Doom. This is the best part of visiting the Shire--seeing the love bewteen those two. That's what I think is the best, anyway. And it's beautifully portrayed here.
Great chapter and I can't wait for the next one! Thank you Obelia Medusa!
Author's reply
Aww, thank you. That love is my favourite, too, and I don't even plan to focus on that in the beginning. I'm glad I did though; I find it very rewarding. :)
Author Reply: Ooops, I meant "didn't even plan".
