Larner · 24 May 2007 · Chapter 28: Beware of Bracegirdles Bearing Bargains
Oh, indeed, the Bracegirdles--and related to Lobelia, more likely than not, I'll be bound! Poor Gaffer--now he realizes perhaps reading isn't as bad a thing as he'd thought!
The Making of a Ringbearer II: Anchored by Henna Gamgee
Larner · 24 May 2007 · Chapter 28: Beware of Bracegirdles Bearing Bargains
Oh, indeed, the Bracegirdles--and related to Lobelia, more likely than not, I'll be bound! Poor Gaffer--now he realizes perhaps reading isn't as bad a thing as he'd thought!
Larner · 24 May 2007 · Chapter 27: Arrangements
And what precisely have they signed, I wonder?
Larner · 24 May 2007 · Chapter 26: The First of Many Parties
Poor Freddy--caught in the midst of class prejudice. But glad to see Frodo's having a marvelous birthday in spite of sore, pinched cheeks. Now, lad--get in there and help wash those dishes! Heh!
Larner · 24 May 2007 · Chapter 25: Lessons in Loyalty
Yes, the stouthearted and honorable Gamgees against the extraordinarily nasty and despicable Lotho! Hooray, and for the finishing of the fortress and the wise retreat of Ted.
Larner · 24 May 2007 · Chapter 24: The Fortress
Ah, but he's the cute one, after all, and Daisy is already besotted and likely to pass that on to the others. Having built my own share of fortresses like this when I was a child, I have to laugh and wish I were there with them.
Larner · 24 May 2007 · Chapter 23: A Bump in the Road
Ah, in my version the Gaffer becomes surprised to learn Master Bilbo has managed to sneakily get all his children reading and writing--only Sam does so openly, and Marigold because she refuses to allow Sam to go without teaching her what he was taught earlier in the day. But the Gaffer would have been out of his depth no matter what--and certainly Sam was most improperly named, after all! Heh!
Larner · 24 May 2007 · Chapter 22: New Endeavours
Yes, the memory of a mother's love each time he sees his eyes in the mirror. And I see you, as I did, have Frodo helping substantially to teach Sam to write.
Larner · 24 May 2007 · Chapter 21: A Mother's Touch
Excellent--healing is begun! No, not tonight. And love the memory of the rocking chair.
Dreamflower · 24 May 2007 · Chapter 55: A Friend In Need
Oh dear! I can't imagine what poor Frodo must have thought, when Hamfast was presented with such a dilemma! But I am afraid that he's not *really* gone to Buckland, but is hiding out somewhere nearby, out in the weather, and him still not quite recovered. And I'm finding myself very worried about Bilbo. I would have guessed that he simply fell ill or injured himself while gone, which delayed him, but Lobelia's confidence that he's not coming back seems a bit off if the S.-B.s didn't have a hand in it somehow... *frets* PS: You'll see I couldn't wait till tomorrow! LOL!
Author's reply
Fear not, Bilbo appears in the very next chapter! Well, two chapters from this one.
Larner · 24 May 2007 · Chapter 20: Dr. Hornblower
I can barely remember the time I developed a horrid case of strep throat at camp, where I was a counselor. My mother came to take me home, a trip I barely remember. I awoke fully days later in my own bed, feeling miserable and horrid, and wondering what had happened to me. I must suppose Frodo feels much the same. Bilbo's care is wonderful, and I love Dr. Hornblower.
Larner · 24 May 2007 · Chapter 19: Progression
Poor lad--he and his loving uncle are in for a time of it, I fear--and a frightening one. Glad he has Bell and Hamfast to lean on.
Larner · 24 May 2007 · Chapter 18: Unexpected
Alas, Carnelian fever, is it? Having had scarletina, a lighter version, I know it can be nasty. Poor child.
Larner · 24 May 2007 · Chapter 17: Forgiveness and Charity
The dear child, and the terrible, awful, no-good day he's had.
Larner · 24 May 2007 · Chapter 16: Endings and Beginnings
The visit ends, and we start a new year. Glad the lasses exceeded expectations as much as they did. Am looking forward to seeing how Merry passes on the lessons taught by Frodo.
Larner · 24 May 2007 · Chapter 15: Applesauce
Leave a child like small Peregrin with a half-open jar of apple sauce and see where it leads! Of course. And love the way Pippin earned his nickname.
Larner · 24 May 2007 · Chapter 14: Stories
Poor princess, and what a curse! And what an extension to the story, making the poor girl a slime creature of DOOM! Love Pippin and his normal baby tasting of everything.
Larner · 24 May 2007 · Chapter 13: No Yule Would Be Merry Without Pippin' Hot Food
Yes, a bit of a limited vocabulary, small Pippin. (Laughing gently)
Larner · 24 May 2007 · Chapter 12: Breakfast
She would embarrass him like that, the silly child! But he handled it well. Now he's feeling far more comfortable and as if he belongs, as is right and proper, and he's finding more family in the persons of the Gamgees. Excellent situation.
Larner · 24 May 2007 · Chapter 11: The Wrath of Mad Baggins
Hooray for the new father! Wonderful performance indeed from Old Mad Baggins against the Odious Otho, disgusting Lobelia, and even worse Lotho. About time they got the fear of the Powers put into them. And that's the worst Lobelia could consider for her brute of a son? She deserves him, I fear.
Larner · 24 May 2007 · Chapter 10: Second Day of Yule
Oh, dear, the besotted Daisy and poor, sore Frodo! What a disaster waiting to happen! It will be amusing to see what happens next.
Larner · 24 May 2007 · Chapter 9: A New Seed is Planted
Wonderful comforting going on, and the friendship continuing to blossom between Frodo and Sam. Lovely!
Larner · 24 May 2007 · Chapter 8: Various Visitors
Oh, if he only knew! Poor, poor lad. Now, for Bilbo to realize what's really going on!
Larner · 24 May 2007 · Chapter 7: Secrets
Our Sam is a wise child after all, and a good deal more secure than young Frodo.
Larner · 24 May 2007 · Chapter 6: Consequences
Trust the coward to get help and ambush Frodo when he'd be alone. Seems he's been spying on our lad, too. Nasty soul!
Larner · 24 May 2007 · Chapter 5: Undesirable Encounters
Well planned protection against Lotho the Lout. Heh!
