· Chapter 36: Fateful Decisions
Another wonderful chapter. Balm to my soul after a Christmas period of family bereavement. My brother in law died just before Christmas and it took me four days to track my ex husband down to tell him. So your writing and that of the other wonderful writers on this site have been my tether to sanity.
Well, we know that nothing happened to Ingwion because he ended up going with Eonwe to the War of Wrath...unless he dies and is reborn again. However he is a close friend of Findarato and as such he is in a prime position in Tirion to get caught up in the terror which sets off Feanor and some of the Noldor and results in Finwe's death. I can see him trying to hold everything together when Nolofinwe follows Feanor and I can see him desperately trying to bolster up Arafinwe when he returns, both emotionally and in the matter of trying to drag together the Noldor who are left into some sort of cohesive group. He's obviously a sensitive soul...possibly more so than his twin who seems more pragmatic somehow.
I am greatly looking forward to reading more. A fascinating picture of Aman, prior to and after the death of the Trees is emerging from your wonderful writing. I imagine Ingoldo and his wife will end up trying to go with Feanor...but do they instead end up crossing the ice with the others instead? All is supposition on my part of course!
Author's reply
Hello, Shemyaza. I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I had a dear friend pass away the Wednesday before Christmas, and while her death was expected (she was in the terminal stages of cancer), I know I will miss her deeply. You have my sympathy.
I think you may be confusing your version of things with mine. *grin* In "Elf, Interrupted" it is specifically stated that Ingwion does not join Eöwnë and Arafinwë in the War of Wrath. That honor goes to his cousin, Intarion, who dies protecting Arafinwë and others from an attack. Intarion goes to 'redeem the honor of his family' after what his atar, Ingoldo, does in this story. Ingwion is not allowed to go because many fear that he would be deliberately reckless, seeking death so as to join his twin in Mandos, and Ingwë is not willing to risk his heir's life. Ingoldo and Tinwetariel also remain in Aman, for they are there to plague Glorfindel when he is reborn. *grin*
At any rate, I am glad that mine is one of the stories that helped you get through this difficult time for you (though it's rather ironic considering the subject matter) and I'm glad you are looking forward to reading more. Thanks for taking the time to read and review. I greatly appreciate it. Happy New Year!

I think Intarion has the right idea about Ingoldo leaving the Privy Council, that ellon would do anything to cause trouble, even going so far as to giving up his council seat. Devious son of a gun!(or should that be bow?)
Poor Ingalure, he is having a hard time of it isn't he. I wonder if Ingwe could think of something to put him in charge of to give him purpose. The Twins are still coming across as somewhat imature to me. Pity Ingwe does not have a standing army he could stick them both in as commanders or something. I know he has a Palace Guard, but it is not quite the same thing.
Maybe the Twins could trade off on who goes to Tirion and who sits on the council?
Huggs,
Lynda
Author's reply
Hi Lynda. Well, when you have all of the Ages of Arda in which to grow up.... I guess you're bound to be somewhat immature especially if nothing happens to make you grow up. That will change, of course, and soon. We'll see how Ingalaurë handles being separated from his twin however they choose. Thanks for reading and reviewing. Happy New Year!

Argh, got cut off! I meant to say more than that! Lol...I meant, I hope Ingoldo's plan, whatever it is, gets squished by Ingwe, and that someone slaps them for his and Tinwetariel's comments to Intarion..."when did you grow a backbone" indeed :( comments like that HURT, what a son of Morgoth, I should know! *glares at Ingoldo*
Tye-melin tenn'ambar-Metta, Atto!
Kaylee
Author's reply
As for Ingoldo's plans.... well, that's what this story is all about and we'll see how they go. Ingoldo and Tinwetariel are unusual in their treatment of their son, for Elves are notorious for being loving and caring for their children, but I suspect their animosity towards Intarion came only when he reached adulthood and did not follow Ingoldo into government as he wanted but went his own way.
Anyway, thanks for reading and reviewing, Kaylee. I really appreciate it. Tye-melin and Happy New Year!

Oh, it's definitely good that they will be able to have fun "like old times", Atto, I think they'll need it! Dark times seem to be coming...and poor, poor Ingil, with such a case of "they don't care because I'm the spare" hanging over him...I'm so glad Ingwi and their Atto were there to reassure him! I hope things improve for the twins, Indil, and especially Intarion...oh, having an atto who's that unreasonable...well let's just say I understand Intarion a little too well and I'm glad I have you for an atar indonyo!!!!!!! Seems like Intarion has an atar indonyo in Lirulin's atto as well, so good for him. :) Hopefully it will all come out as well as possible for now for these five, though we know where Ingil will end up.
(You know, I wonder if Ingil's attendant as a Reborn was...Ingil? *grin* The Maia certainly liked Reborn and elflings...*cough*GreatPaintIncident*cough*)
Author's reply
Hi Kaylee. Yes, Ingil is suffering from spare-itis. Hopefully however they choose and wherever he ends up (whether in Tirion or on the Privy Council), being separated from his twin for a while will help with his sense of inferiority. And unfortunately, as Intarion has learned, we can't choose our parents, but at least he's found an atar indonyo in Nolondur and that makes it better for him.
As for the Maia Ingil being one of Ingalaurë's attendants when he comes to Lórien.... that is certainly an interesting idea. *grin*

I am enjoying this story very much.(well I enjoy all your stories, esp the ones with the twins) Your writing style is very enjoyable, and characters are well developed.
I have a feeling Ingoldo and Tinwetariel are behind much of the trouble; also I wonder why the Valar were concerned with the wedding. Is there an important child in the future? (grin)
And last, would you be able to translate the Quenya word for dance into dancer? I can find words, but changing the forms of them is beyond me at this point.
Author's reply
Hello Ainisarie. I am so pleased to hear that you are enjoying this story and, indeed, you enjoy all my stories. I try very hard to make all my characters believable and well-rounded, even the villians, so they are interesting to the reader.
The word for 'dance' as a verb is _lilta-_ (the noun could be rendered by the gerund _liltië_, literally 'the dancing'). 'Dancer' would be _liltar_, the _-r_ being a gender-neutral agental suffix. To indicate that the dancer is female, one would make it _liltarë_ and if the dancer is male it would be _liltaro_. The plural of _liltar_ would be _liltari_. I hope that helps.
Thanks for reading and reviewing and letting my know how much you are enjoying this tale. I appreciate you taking the time to do very much. Happy New Year!

Namo is wise to distrust Melkor. Why can't the others sense this too? What Melkor doesn't seem to realize is that Iluvatar can see all, including his every move, and could very easily put a halt to his efforts. He's not as smart as he thinks.
Author's reply
I think they all distrust Melkor at this point, Tari, but Námo certain distrusts him more than the others, that's for sure. And no, Melkor isn't as smart as he thinks and Eru will win in the end. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

Well, well, interesting. I bet Ingoldo has something with those conflicts among the Noldor. Perhaps he is not the "brain" of the operation, perhaps Morgoth is behind all this - by manipulating Ingoldo and others - but I'm sure Ingoldo has something to do with it.
Thanks for another great chapter.
Author's reply
Hi Ellynn. Well, whether Melkor or Ingoldo, it's difficult to say and we probably will never know. But I think it's Melkor's taint that has caused all the trouble, so in a sense, Ingoldo is a much a victim as the rest. Glad you liked the chapter. Thanks for letting me know. I really appreciate it.

No, Melkor's interference is terribly subtle, apparently. So, a dyer was convinced to use sub-par dye materials, and now someone is playing with the miners and so on? Not a good situation at all.
Author's reply
Whether it's Melkor's influence or something else, it's hard to say. Certainly Melkor has sown the seeds but it's the Elves' responsibility (as it is ours) to root them out and destroy them before they take hold. Some aren't willing to do this, as we see here. And no, it's not a good situation at all and we know, of course, that it only gets worse. Thanks for reading and reviewing, Larner. I appreciate it very much.

· Chapter 34: Darkness Rising
I wonder how much of the unrest can be laid at Ingoldo's door? I know some of it can has been caused by Melkor's honeyed lies but a lot of it is coming from certain elves who are staunch supporters of Feanaro. Wonder what would have happened if Finwe had not gone to Formanos, yes, yes I know the answer is moot since he did go but it is interesting to contemplate it!
So now we wait and see what and how Finderato can help, some but not enough.
Huggs,
Lynda
Author's reply
Now that's an interesting question, Lynda. We may never know the answer to that. Certainly the Noldor are capable of mischief without help from others. I think if Finwë had remained in Tirion, the Silmarillion may never have been written, or the story would have been vastly different and things may have been better or worse. I'm sure such a story would make a good AU for some writer (not me!). We will see how Findarárto fares now that he is back in Tirion for good. Thanks for reading and reviewing, Lynda. I appreciate it very much.
What a wonderful Yule gift. And now things begin to come to a crux - Melkor is coveting the Silmarili, and the general unrest is passing through the general populace. The time is ripe for revolution, and it will come, although in a form unforeseen by all. Marvelous as always.
- Erulisse (one L)

*LOL* You're the first person to consider this particular chapter with the Lord of Slime as the main character a Yule gift. A most solemn ending to part 1. Melkor is already sewing his seeds of distrust and restlessness and envy, and they will spring forth with more of the same--although the restlessness of some, not born of distrust, will bring a crop of hope and defiance of the dark.
Excellent!
Author's reply
Not all the restlessness is born of evil, but only part of Eru's divine plan for them all, whether they realize this or not. Thanks for reading and reviewing, Larner. I appreciate you taking the time to do so, especially in the midst of the holidays.

Indeed an elegant resolution, although I find myself suspicious of Ingoldo and his wife, of course.
And Findrod, we know through hindsight, will be needed in Endore in the end. Another greater than the Valar is seeing to him, I deem.
Author's reply
Yes, Larner. Through hindsight we do indeed know what Finrod's ultimate fate is and that Another is indeed seeing after him. The Valar may wish for Finrod to stay in Aman, but he has a different destiny, one that not even Námo as seen. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I really appreciate it.

You know, Atar Fiondil, this was not exactly the best Christmas present ever. LOL! No, really...I knew the story was only going to get darker, and I knew this had to happen, so I'm not surprised. It was a wonderful chapter, the way it was written. Just very dark and depressing on Christmas Eve, so I may have to go reread your real Yule present to us. Which will bring me back to poor Zimrathor and then I have to re-reread the Yule one. Not that I mind, but do I have the time, I wonder?
Well, I can (futilely, I'm sure) hope that Melkor will be caught...wonder what happens next?
Merry Christmas, Atto indonyo!

Unfortunately, this is just the way the chapters fell in terms of posting. I didn't plan it this way and I decided not to skip posting so as not to disappoint any of my readers who look forward to Fridays and getting their "Fiondil-fix" as one person put it. *grin* Anyway, why don't you read "Elf Academy" instead? Well Feanaro has sent Melkor off with a flea in his ear, pity it does not keep him away. He will be back with a very nasty companion and much too soon for the Vala to do any thing to prevent him.
Poor Namo, you have to feel sorry for him, even just having an inkling of what is to come is a heavy burden.
So that is why the Valar called a festival, to hopefully calm the Noldor but unintentionally aiding Melkor in his assualt on Formanos. Deep sigh for what is to come.
Merry Chritmas and a Happy New Year to you and yours,
Huggs,
Lynda
Author's reply
Hi Lynda,
You do have to feel sorry for Námo at this point. He knows something bad is coming but not what. And of course, *we* know what that is, which makes it all the more poignant. And yes, that is why the Valar called for a festival, hoping to stem the tide of unrest still felt by the Noldor.
Anyway, Part Two will begin on Monday and we will be getting very close to the actual Darkening.
Merry Christmas to you and thanks for reading and reviewing. I greatly appreciate it.

Hm, so there is unrest in Tirion, not so surprising since I am sure not all Feanaro's supporters left with him and Ingoldo has resigned from the Privy Council, now that does surprise me, just what is that sneaky son of a gun up to? I would be very surprised to find that he does not have any influance on it still though, there are always people who are hungry for power.
I had a feeling Ingwe would do what he did, in appointing Ingwion and Ingalure to the Privy Council, I was surprised at Ingalure's response initially though.
Ingalure seems to have a case of second twin/sonitis, Ingwe will have to be very carefull how he handles him. I hope Ingoldo does not get wind of it as he would love to drive a wedge between Ingwion and Ingalure and also between the Twins and Ingwe.
Huggs,
Lynda
Author's reply
Hi Lynda. In the Silmarillion, it does say that one of the reasons Manwë chose to hold a feast of thanksgiving was to help counter the unrest that was still felt among the Noldor. No details, of course, so I have had to come up with plausible scenarios for the unrest.
Ingoldo resigning for the Privy Council... well there's a reason for it, as we will eventually learn.
Unfortunately, you are correct about Ingalaurë's feelings of insecurity and "being the spare" and we will see how that plays out in subsequent cahpters. As to whether Ingoldo will seek to drive a wedge between the Twins or between them and Ingwë remains to be seen. *grin*

Well the Valar have Finderato where they want him, hopefully he will be calmed down and pointed in the right direction, if only for a time. Knowing what is to come makes this story interesting in so many differant ways, knowing something has happened is not the same as knowing why it happened.
Huggs,
Lynda
Author's reply
Hi Lynda. That is certainly one reason for writing this story: figuring out why the things we know happened actually happened. What circumstances drove these people to do as they did which the Silmarillion or other sources do not elucidate? I hope that my take on things is not only plausible but entertaining in its own right. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I really appreciate it.
What a beautiful ceremony. Of all the gifts from the Valar, I liked the journals the best. That is something people in the real world should do. Of course the words of wisdom from Namo, etc. should be taken to heart also.
I'm glad at least this went smoothly for the young couple. However, they should never let their guard down where Intarion's parents are concerned. They are pure trouble.
Author's reply
Thanks, Tari. I'm glad you found the ceremony beautiful. I rather like the books best myself. They are certainly original, that's for sure. I had a time coming up with appropriate gifts for the various Valar. We will see in the next chapter whether Ingoldo and Tinwetariel continue to behave or not. Thanks for reading and reviewing. So, since he cannot cause discomfort in person, he will work behind the scenes to cause as much confusion and unrest as possible. Truly, the three Kings are unbelievably patient - perhaps too much so. I know I wouldn't be so good - a good physical confrontration might be just the thing. Looking forward to Friday's chapter.
- Erulisse (one L)
Author's reply
Hi Erulisse. Probably a 'good, physical confrontation" is the last thing they are thinking of, since the last such confrontation ended with a trial in the Máhanaxar, followed by exile. Besides, the kings are called to a higher standard of behavior and cannot always indulge themselves. *grin*

· Chapter 30: At the Wedding Feast
With all apologies to Eru, Ingoldo can be a real, sneaky S.O.B. at times! I think the Valar should exile him and his wife somewhere, but not Formanos, putting all the bad eggs in one basket would not be a good idea.
So Ingoldo and Company have managed to disrupt the wedding after all, inspite of their little chat with Lords Manwe and Namo, he is never going to learn is he, by the way, thinking ahead a few centuries, who does he blame for his sons death during the War of Wrath?
Still much to ponder on in this chapter, I might have to come back to it, there is so much going on.
Huggs,
Lynda
Author's reply
Hi Lynda. Well, you knew Ingoldo wouldn't stay good for good. *grin* I think the Valar are hoping the High King will deal with Ingoldo, being his brother and all. At any rate, we'll see how it all works out (or not) eventually. As for whom Ingoldo will blamed for Intarion's death... that would be Arafinwe, because Intarion will die defending him. Of course he'll also blame Ingwe for not sending his own son to the War, forcing Intarion to go in his stead (as he will see it). A messy affair altogether and you notice back in Elf, Interrupted, Ingoldo and Tinwetariel are not present when Intarion is reunited with his wife and daughter, as they are still in exile.
There is indeed much to ponder in this chapter even though there isn't much action going on. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much.
So the wedding finally has happened and the in-laws were (so far) suitably well-behaved. Miracles can indeed happen.
I loved the gifts - the lute and the harp are my favorites. The journals, although well gifted, would have been the hardest for me since I am only able to keep a virtual journal but have never been successful in a hand-written one.
I loved the fact that Intarion forgot the words that he had planned to say. Nerves do play a role in every wedding day and the stress to perform properly has caused many a bride and groom to faint, forget their vows, drop the rings, and other tales that then get passed down to children and grandchildren.
I can hardly wait for Monday and the reception. That should be interesting...
- Erulisse (one L)
Author's reply
Hi Erulisse. I'm glad you liked the Valar's gifts. Of course, the Elves, not living in an electronic age, would have no difficulty with a hand-written journal. *grin*
One of my brothers actually fainted at his wedding. It was hysterical and I might have used it here but I decided to just have Intarion forget his lines. Easier to write. *grin*
Reception is coming up and we will have a few surprises (naturally). Thanks for reading and reviewing. I really appreciate it.
