Thank you for an update - I was wondering where you'd gone. Lots of lovely details here, but even now there is lots of information being provided that will all lead to the final denouement, I hope. And what's up with Inglor? And can Haleth last out without going crackers - perhaps she might be allowed to spend some time in the country, perhaps? Thank you.

Author's reply

Haleth's mental state has never been exceptionally stable; it's just harder for her to ignore. Poor Inglor. No matter what he does Haleth it angry with him. Thank-you for reviewing, Freyalyn.

Elflingimp · 8 November 2011 · Chapter 28: An Interminable Banquet

I would like to know more about that memory...I feel bad for Haleth it seems she is miserable and what the heck is wrong with Inglor? Well maybe she will escape somehow....you never know with Haleth do you? I so want to read more! Hugs The Imp

Author's reply

Thank-you for reviewing, Elfingimp. Haleth is miserable in a place where everyone's supposed to be happy...or at least contented. Life in Aman isn't perfect for the Elves, but she's only beginning to realize that. Still, after being raised on stories of a land that is perfect, it's hard to let go of those expectations, especially when one doesn't want to appear to be ungrateful. Thanks again. Haleth

eiluj · 8 November 2011 · Chapter 28: An Interminable Banquet

Now she's having First Age memories. Multiple First Age memories. Curiouser and curiouser! It's good to see more of this story. Looks like poor Inglor hasn't been having a good time either.

Author's reply

Thank-you for reviewing, eiluj. Haleth is having a lot of memories. How many are true and how many are made up remains to be seen. She is, as always, a mess. A high functioning mess, but still a mess. Author Reply: Thank-you for reviewing, eiluj. Haleth is having a lot of memories. How many are true and how many are made up remains to be seen. Oh Haleth!......where are you? Hugs The Imp

Author's reply

*waves* Here I am!

galathil · 28 July 2011 · Chapter 27: An Old Friend of the Family

Dear Haleth, can't wait for the next chapter.I hope She dosen't keep ingoring Inglor for to long, knowing those two any thing can happen.Maybe Valinor should batten down the hatches as I feel a storm brewing between our two heros.Until next time, lots of love Galathil.

Author's reply

Thank-you, galathil. Inglor might have a thing or two to say about Haleth ignoring him. Not that he'd tell her directly. It's difficult to imagine either of them finding trouble in the Blessed Lands, but they both seem to be talented at it.

Shieara · 27 July 2011 · Chapter 27: An Old Friend of the Family

Thanks for updating. I recently found your stories and am really enjoying them. You do a good job of trying to make the elves seem to have a different worldview, rather then the "humans with pointy ears" that a lot of authors go with. Keep it up!

Author's reply

Thank-you, Shieara. I try to depict elvish culture being different from mortal culture, although I can't really imagine what the worldview of a 6000 year old being would be.

shadowfax · 27 July 2011 · Chapter 26: The Other Balrog Slayer

Oh I just loved this chapter!! I was waiting for the time when Inglor would lose his cool. Guess he was so tranquil and sure about Haleth in Middle Earth, it just needed another Elf to make him lose it. It would be great if we would get more peeps into his head for a while now! And Haleth is right to be angry at him too. He really shouldn't have made decisions regarding her life and death, on his own.

Author's reply

Thank-you, Shadowfax. I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter. Inglor occassionally loses his temper. The episodes are just few and far between. I find it very difficult to write from his point of view. It's difficult to know how a really old being would think.

Tari · 25 July 2011 · Chapter 26: The Other Balrog Slayer

It seems someone is experiencing a bit of jealousy. Maybe this will inspire him to finally make his move. (fingers crossed)

Author's reply

Thank-you for reviewing, Tari. Yes, Inglor is jealous. As far as making a move goes, elves move very slowly in comparison to mortals. They literally have all the time in the world. It must be a shock to discover there might not be as much time as they think.

Freyalyn · 25 July 2011 · Chapter 27: An Old Friend of the Family

Now this is getting interesting... At least Haleth has met someone who has half an idea what she needs and what she is thinking, and the picnic sounds fun. But seeing Meneltarma - will she steal another boat now? Thank you for updating - once again, I can't wait. And the peep into Inglor's mind was fun.

Author's reply

Thank-you, Freyalyn. I get the impression Ecthelion misses his mortal friend Tuor, or at lteast that he'd like someone who would appreciate his stories from Middle-earth. He's found a good audience in Haleth. It's probably good (although really odd) for her to meet someone who can demystify her ancestor for her.

aelfwine · 25 July 2011 · Chapter 27: An Old Friend of the Family

Hey well at least her thoughts still stray to Inglor , poor elf. How could she forget she loves him? If I were him I would be more than a little frustrated too . I can hardly wait for more!

Author's reply

Thank-you, Aelfwine. Haleth still thinks of Inglor. After all, he's to blame for her current circumstances. But her thoughts and memories are a jumbled mess and she's spending a lot of time trying to figure out what's true and what isn't. She's more of a mess than usual.

aelfwine · 25 July 2011 · Chapter 26: The Other Balrog Slayer

Oh man! ...er elf....Poor Inglor!

Author's reply

Poor Inglor. All of those years with Haleth flying into jealous rages...which he never seemed to understand.

aelfwine · 25 July 2011 · Chapter 23: The Ring of Doom

Yes ! shes going to have forever with him . If they can just get past themselves now lol

Author's reply

Getting past themeselves is an almosmt insurmountable challenge for these two.

aelfwine · 25 July 2011 · Chapter 14: 'Til Death Do Us Part

Ack! she finaly tells him and then passes out?

Author's reply

At this point she's got nothing left to lose so she might as well be honest. She's a bit stupid that way.

Fiondil · 24 July 2011 · Chapter 27: An Old Friend of the Family

A lovely interlude with Ecthelion and Haleth. I wonder how much Ecthelion misses the imperfections of Middle-earth. Haleth is a breath of fresh air, if only all of them, including Haleth, realized it and rejoiced in it. I hope Haleth stages a rebellion and shakes up Eldamar a bit. Maybe the Valar are hoping, too? *sly grin*

Author's reply

I hadn't actually thought about that until you mentioned it, Fiondil. It's a very good point, though. Haleth can't help but be rebellious, even when she doesn't really mean to be. Well, ok, she usually does, but the law of unintended consequences is something she doesn't fully appreciate...yet. Thank-you for the review.

Fiondil · 24 July 2011 · Chapter 26: The Other Balrog Slayer

Forgot I hadn't read this chapter yet. Been rather busy. So, Ecthelion of the Fountain and is that Inglor looking jealous? What does he expect considering the way he's treated Haleth all these years? He's never once treated her as anything but an interesting specimen instead of a real person. At least that's the impression I always got as I've been reading these chronicles. It will be ineresting to see how this all works out. I'm with Haleth, though. I would rather be dead than living in that place. It's way too perfect for me and I like Elves. *LOL!*

Author's reply

Thank-you, Fiondil. Ecthelion is a hero. He's part of Haleth's family history. Inglor seldom had any competition for Haleth's attention in Middle-earth. It may not have occurred to him that she could be interested in anyone else. Although I wouldn't assign that motivation to him. Inglor believes he's been very forthcoming with Haleth. She just doesn't know his culture and has completely missed his signals. Aman, as I depict it, is too perfect. There are cracks there. They just aren't as obvious as wars or poverty. Now I'm going to have to go and think about this.

Tari · 13 July 2011 · Chapter 25: Looming Disaster

What a delimma Haleth is in. She is now living among the Firstborn, doesn't know the language and feels that her appearance is lacking. Those are obstacles that can be overcome as well as learning how to knit. She needs to take a breath and proceed forward slowly. I'm sure everthing will work out for the best and still have hopes for her and Inglor.

Freyalyn · 4 July 2011 · Chapter 26: The Other Balrog Slayer

Oh I love this chapter! Inglor really should have a clue by now, and yet he doesn't. I wait with bated breath for the next chapter - and the explosion!

Author's reply

Poor Inglor. He and Haleth just can't seem to get it together. Haleth certainly knows how to make him angry, though. Thank-you for reviewing, Freyalyn.

curiouswombat · 2 July 2011 · Chapter 26: The Other Balrog Slayer

Aha! I hadn't been sure how 'around' Inglor was. I look forward to Haleth's trip to the sea with Ecthelion - but oh, poor Inglor... perhaps he should have got in first. :~)

Author's reply

Inglor couldn't have anticipated Ecthelion's invitation to Haleth. To be fair, it was Haleth's way of presenting the news that bothered Inglor. Thank-you for reviewing. Haleth

Elflingimp · 1 July 2011 · Chapter 26: The Other Balrog Slayer

Oh my! I found Inglor hilarious.....finally he loses his cool..I mean I couldn't stop laughing! Haleth never, never ceases to amaze me. Even in the Blessed Realm she seems to tick Inglor off..looks like the tables are turning. Hugs The Imp

Author's reply

Poor Inglor. It must have been quite the shock to hear Haleth burbling over Ecthelion. Haleth just isn't adjusting to life in Tirion. Thanks for reviewing. Haleth

Freyalyn · 13 June 2011 · Chapter 25: Looming Disaster

Oh dear, she's not happy - as if she ever would be. I weave myself, but S's always been too active I'd have thought. And where's Inglor gone? Don't say he's abandoned her again?

Author's reply

Haleth seems to have lost the capacity for happiness. You're right. She'd probably be happier doing something more active. You weave? It's one of those things that I've always wanted to learn to do. Thank-you for reviewing. Haleth

Rhyselle · 12 June 2011 · Chapter 25: Looming Disaster

I'm so glad to catch up on this wonderful story. Haleth's struggles with coming to terms with her new existence are very realistic, and it's so good to see her character still holding true to the woman we met when you first began to write of her. I have to say that I'm looking forward to the day when she and Inglor finally do admit their true feelings for each other--and I don't mean Haleth shouting at him, "It's all your fault!" *grin* But in the meantime, it's good to see how she adjusts to her new reality as an immortal. I did like the scene in the weaving room, and thought that the discussion of appropriate yarn color was hilarious--and yet sad. Yes, she has been given the "gift" of immortality, but she will never be an elf. I can see how difficult it would be to find emotional comfort in a society where one is not like everyone else. It's one of the reasons that I think that Elwing prefers to live separate from the other elves in her tower. At least Elwing has Earendil, but Haleth doesn't--yet--have Inglor. (Although I think that even though she can't see it, he's smitten. :) ) It's late and my thoughts are rather disjointed, but I had to tell you how much I enjoyed seeing this tale had bee updated. Keep up the excellent work, and I'll be looking forward to what happens next. Well done!

Author's reply

Thank-you, Rhyselle. I'm happy to hear that Haleth's basic character hasn't changed. ...'I'm looking forward to the day when she and Inglor finally do admit their true feelings for each other'... I hope you're patient! The usual reaction of characters being made immortal is joy. I'm a curmudgeon. I'm not so sure it would be easy to suddenly go from expecting to eventually die to hanging around until the end of time and watching everything you've ever known and loved decaying into dust. It would be crushing. Heck, I still navigate around my home town by landmarks that haven't been there for 20 years. In my mind, they're still there and I feel a twinge of sadness when I'm reminded that they're gone. I've never thought about why Elwing would hold herself apart from the Elves. Now that you mention it, there's probably a very good story in there. (Off you go, bunny. Find another home.) Thank-you for your thoughtful review. Haleth

Erin · 11 June 2011 · Chapter 25: Looming Disaster

Loved the reference to Blundering Through Beleriand. :) Delightful as always.

Author's reply

Oh, yes. The story with the whip-lash inducing point of view switches. Every once in a while I think I should make it presentable. Thanks for reviewing. Lalaeth

Fiondil · 11 June 2011 · Chapter 25: Looming Disaster

Poor Haleth. Anairë is trying ard to make her feel welcome but Haleth isn't making it easy, nor do I blame her. Her last words pretty much sums it up, doesn't it? Looking forward to seeing what happens next. Oh, and I love the chapter title -- very ironic. *grin*

Author's reply

Anairë is likely at a loss for what to do with her formerly mortal descendant. Haleth doesn't speak her language very well and comes from a very different culture. She isn't given to confiding in people, either. It would be a very uncomfortable situation for both of them. The chapter title suggested itself, which was highly unusual.

galathil · 10 June 2011 · Chapter 25: Looming Disaster

Poor Inglor its his fault once again.Just as well he has broad shoulders.I hope Haleth finds something more to her liking than weaving. Can't wait find out what Inglor is doing. Mabye next chapter? I am loving this story.Galathil

Author's reply

Poor Inglor. He means well. Haleth will have to find something that interests her. It's not good to have nothing to do and all of eternity to do it. Thank-you for reviewing, Galathil. Lalaeth

magistix · 10 June 2011 · Chapter 24: Family Reunion

Can't wait til the next chapter, literally cannot wait. I keep checking back so often i think there may be something wrong with me :P i hope there's romance on the cards!

Author's reply

Thanks for reviewing, magistix. Another chapter has been added. Unfortunately there's no romance...possibly yet. Haleth
