Fiondil · 6 May 2013 · Chapter 35: A (Mostly) Pleasant Evening

Now I would've liked to have heard the story about the brothel and the mistaken identity. I'm sure it would prove very amusing. LOL! The butterfly dance must've been lovely to witness, but that last part with the figure of flame stepping out of the fire was a bit unnerving. Hope we find out what that's all about soon. Great chapter, Haleth.

Author's reply

Hello Fiondil. If I ever write about the brother and the case of mistaken identity...it'll be an original story. The butterfly dance was inspired by an arrangement of a Celtic tune called The Butterfly (big surprise) played by a group of Russian musicians calling themselves Ann'Sannat along with a harpist named Alizbar. I highly recommend both of them. Thank-you for the review. Haleth

Tari · 6 May 2013 · Chapter 35: A (Mostly) Pleasant Evening

So now Haleth finds herself to be in a triangle type situation. She still loves Inglor, and then Ecthelion enters the picture, throwing her into a state of confusion. Where does her heart truly lie? Can anything ever come of her love? If she is in the Undyland Lands, why is she not youthful once more? Her statement about her wrinkles makes me think she is still old.

Author's reply

Ecthelion would throw almost any woman into a state of confusion. I don't know that being in the Undying Lands would reverse the aging process. The concoction Inglor gave her would have stopped her from getting any older (or else it would be beyond cruel to give it to anyone). Tolkien never mentioned that limpe would restore youth. I guess it's a matter of opinion. Thanks for the review. Haleth

curiouswombat · 6 May 2013 · Chapter 35: A (Mostly) Pleasant Evening

Unlike the previous reviewer I'm not sure that Ecthelion is flirting - I think, perhaps, he is doing his best to be friendly and even helpful. But the more malevolent presence, whether it be internal or external, is more worrying - especially for poor Haleth!

Author's reply

I don't think Ecthelion is flirting; at least not overtly or on purpose. He is being friendly and he's definitely more animated that many of the other elves. It's easy to see why Haleth finds him attractive. Mr. Malevolent is giving me a huge head-ache. I worry I may have bitten off more than I can chew with him.

Anonymous · 6 May 2013 · Chapter 35: A (Mostly) Pleasant Evening

What on earth is Ecthelion playing at? Either he hasn't noticed the silver ring on her hand, he is purposely ignoring it, or the women at the dance were wrong. It appears that the elf Inglor needs to speak with is Ecthelion as he seems to understand flirting quite well. I'm really curious to see how things start to unfold! Thanks for posting this chapter so quickly!

Author's reply

Thank-you for that question! You gave me an idea that might get me past this round of writer's block! Thank-you! Ecthelion knew Tuor. He has more experience communicating with mortals than Inglor seems to have. Ecthelion seems to treat Haleth more on her own terms rather than as an Elf with (until very recently) a very much shorter life-span, which is how Inglor relates to Haleth. I'm off to write. Thank-you for the review! Haleth

Freyalyn · 30 April 2013 · Chapter 34: Elrond Offers Advice

I really am feeling a very strong temptation to just give Haleth a big whack round the head. But I'm sure you're planning a metaphorical one for her, sooner or later.

Author's reply

Hello Freyalyn Yes. That might get her attention. Maybe. If she wasn't too busy feeling sorry for herself. She's got to come around eventually. She's literally got all of the time in the world to do so. Thanks for the review. Haleth

Oh boy! I hope it's unfounded, but I really feel worried for poor Inglor. He must be feeling immensely guilty about making Haleth immortal and now he can only stand by and watch her miserable in Valinor. It must be like watching a wild exotic animal trying to pace in a small cage! The real heart of the matter is of course their relationship, or lack thereof. I just hope there aren't any serious consequences for Inglor's or Haleth's lack of communication. (Then again it wouldn't be a great story without it!) Huge round of applause for this story! I've even did research on elvish customs to get a new perspective Inglor's behavior. It only proves how addicting your story is. I can't wait for the next chapter!

Author's reply

Hello ...Actually, your worry isn't unfounded. However, at the rate I'm currently writing, I won't get around to that particular story until the year 2020. You researched elvish customs! Awesome! It's incredible how much work and thought Professor Tolkien put into this world. What interesting things did you find? Thanks for the review. Haleth

Tari · 19 April 2013 · Chapter 34: Elrond Offers Advice

Haleth is back! Yeah! I had to reread the previous chapter because I forgot what she was looking for. Poor Inglor is always the recepient of her anger. Now that she once again realizes the error of her ways, it may be too late. Hopefully Inglor will come back. Can't wait for the next chapter.

Author's reply

Hello Tari Haleth is (was?) back. Inglor is always the target for Haleth's rage. At first it was because he was the only one there. Now it's because she blames him for her current state but is too proud to admit there's anything wrong or to ask for help. Inglor has his pride, too. Haleth has to find a way to adjust that doesn't involve using other people as punching bags for her bad moods. Thank-you for the review. Haleth

Mysterious Jedi · 18 April 2013 · Chapter 34: Elrond Offers Advice

I enjoyed this chapter and hope to see more soon. It would be hard being a former mortal amogn all those elves.

Author's reply

Hello Mysterious Jedi. It would be incredibly difficult to be a former mortal living among the Elves. You'd always be the slowest, the least skilled, the worst looking and just generally last at everything we use to judge ourselves against others. I've seen so many stories where the plot is 'mortal girl becomes immortal and lives happily forever afterwards with her elf husband' that I wanted to explore how and why the situation wouldn't necessarily make someone happy. Thank-you for the review. Haleth

curiouswombat · 18 April 2013 · Chapter 34: Elrond Offers Advice

Hurrah for a new chapter - the knowledge that it was waiting for me helped work go quickly! I feel sorry for poor Elrond getting no visitors. You'd think his parents might have called... But oh Haleth is right - perhaps she's really done it this time. And Inglor really needs a chat with Elrond too, for enlightenment. One day Inglor and Haleth will finally have a conversation where they both speak clearly and listen to each other... maybe!

Author's reply

Hello curiouswombat Poor Elrond and all of the other Exiles on Tol Eressea. The no visitors is completely my idea, of course. There's a whole convoluted reason for it which I won't bore you with. Haleth needs to find better ways of dealing with her problems; something beyond yelling at Inglor whenever things go wrong. But the day that the two of them sit and talk, listen and understand each other will likely be the last chapter of their tales. Thank-you for the review. Haleth

egallis · 18 April 2013 · Chapter 34: Elrond Offers Advice

Another well-done chapter. This is the only story I come to this site to read. Looking forward to seeing what will become of this little situation.

Author's reply

Hello egallis I hope the resolution, when it eventually comes, doesn't disappoint. Thank-you for continuing to read the story, even though there are months between updates. Haleth PS Do you have a deviant art account?

Fiondil · 18 April 2013 · Chapter 34: Elrond Offers Advice

Elrond is giving Haleth some sound advice, but I think the one who needs his advice even more is Inglor, the silly elf. He's really clueless about mortals, especially Haleth. Thanks for updating. Looking forward to the next chapter.

Author's reply

Hello Fiondil Inglor, for all that's he's very intelligent, really doesn't understand mortals; especially female mortals. He likely thinks he's being more than obvious but Haleth doesn't really have a clue about Elvish social cues either. They talk past each other all of the time without realizing it. Yet they've spent so much time together that Haleth expects Inglor to understand her, even though the evidence is very clear that he doesn't. They've both clueless. Thank-you for the review. Haleth

twoflower22 · 18 April 2013 · Chapter 34: Elrond Offers Advice

Thank you for updating; I am very glad you are continuing to post it. Only this chapter ends on a terrible cliffhanger, of course. When did Inglor say Haleth he couldn't bear to live without her? I don't think he ever did - unfortunately; it would have been fun to read that scene.

Author's reply

Hello twoflower. Well, dang. I thought I'd put that line in the story somewhere. He might have told her when she was passed out or too angry to listen or not paying attention. Or...I might have made a mistake. That's more likely. I'll have to go and fix it. Thanks for pointing out the error. I'm really amazed by people who read the story so carefully! If you find any more errors, please let me know. Constructive criticism is always welcome. Haleth

galathil · 17 April 2013 · Chapter 34: Elrond Offers Advice

Forgot to add,I hope that Haleth listens to and takes Elrond's advice to heart. Lets hope Haleth's latest venture, finally gives her something worthwhile to do. Also brings her and everybody body else some much needed peace. Hope this makes sense. LOL Galathil

Author's reply

Elrond's advice is very good. Haleth should follow it. Knowing Haleth, she'll try and then fail spectacularly. Thanks for the review. Haleth

galathil · 17 April 2013 · Chapter 34: Elrond Offers Advice

Oh thank you for another wonderful chapter!Hope the two of them can get past this latest spat.Mind you though, I wouldn't mind banging their heads together, they are both so stubborn.Wonder if they will ever marry? If they do I think that their kids will just as wonderful if some what stubborn. (wonder if the blessed realm will survive when they finally marry) I really can't wait for the next chapter.Lots of love Galathil.

Author's reply

Hello Galathil A lot of people want to bang their heads together. They are both extremely stubborn, but in completely different ways. And they always talk past each other instead of actually communicating. Thank-you for the review. Haleth

twoflower22 · 14 March 2013 · Chapter 4: Elostirion

I love the little mysteries scattered here and there throughout this fic. For example, after reading this chapter I can't but wonder why Inglor made Haleth climb into the tower unnecessarily. I almost suspect the whole thing was a ruse - a pretext for rubbing the oil of Lorien into her skin. I wonder if the oil, given its origin, suspends aging process or some such. This is but one mysterious moment of many. And if Inglor is actually Finrod, *then* I have a theory why he pursues Haleth - might be related to her ancestry :)

Twoflower22 · 9 March 2013 · Chapter 14: 'Til Death Do Us Part

Hi Haleth, I've just read all your stories - almost in one sitting - and loved them. The only drawback is they distract me from real life way too much ;) Elf vs human culture clash is fascinating to read about. Funny how humans look fey to an elf. I do hope you update this some time soon. I've come to care a lot about your characters and to wonder about their relationship - what is the deal between these two? I am as perplexed as ever after reading this chapter - in which they finally talk about it. So he knew. I wonder if she had an inkling about his feelings, in her own turn, but was in denial, say, because of the mortality issue. And it is not the only issue they have to deal with, in view of the later chapters. Thank you for writing!

Freyalyn · 3 January 2013 · Chapter 33: Lost and Found

You really are building up the frustration here again, aren't you? And I'm just cringeing for Haleth after the boat incident. Please, please - sort them out. I don't think any of us can bear this for much longer.

Author's reply

The encounter in the boat really didn't turn out the way Haleth expected. Inglor likely felt his actions were perfectly understandable and maybe they would have been to another elf. Not so understandable to a mortal. Thank-you for reviewing. Haleth

curiouswombat · 19 December 2012 · Chapter 33: Lost and Found

Oh dear - I do hope that finally, one day, they have a moment or two of mutual understanding! But how good to see Frodo and Bilbo again.

Author's reply

It might happen someday, but it's going to take a lot of work. They make completely different assumptions. Inglor appears clueless while Haleth flies off in a rage, but it's mainly been just the two of them alone. Now that other people are involved, they might have a chance to understand each other. Thank-you for reviewing. Haleth

Fiondil · 19 December 2012 · Chapter 33: Lost and Found

Poor Haleth. Upstaged once again by Inglor and the booby doesn't have a clue. I really hope the two of them get their acts together. Haleth needs to stop taking everything personally and Inglor needs a quick kick in the derrier. Have a happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

Author's reply

You've summed it up perfectly. She needs to learn to control her temper. He needs to understand that she has a completely different worldview an learn to accomodate to her instead of assuming she understands his actions. Or maybe he's being mysterious on purpose. (Just don't ask me why.) I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and wish you health and good luck in the coming year. Haleth

eiluj · 19 December 2012 · Chapter 33: Lost and Found

Oh dear. Things are not going well. Or maybe I should say, Things are continuing not to go well. And here's the shocking part: even the addition of hobbits didn't seem to help! Still, some day Haleth and Inglor will be laughing about this ... I hope. Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Author's reply

I'm sorry. This story isn't a load of laughs. I think that's why it's so hard to write; it's just not fun. I'm very grateful to readers who are hanging in with it. It will get lighter. Eventually. I hope your Christmas was happy and peaceful and that the new year brings only good things. Thank-you for reviewing. Haleth

chanel · 7 November 2012 · Chapter 32: On the Sea

Author's reply

Merci, Chanel. Je m'excuse. Je ne parle pas francais et je ne peux pas faire les accents. Je vais essayer completer cette histoire. Tourjours elle grandit, grandit, grandit! C'est decourager. Haleth

aelfwine · 20 September 2012 · Chapter 32: On the Sea

I sure hope elrond can tell haleth and Inglor what to go do with themselves before I lose my patience LOL seriously thanks for the update and bringing Inglor back. You have me on the edge of my seat waiting for them to do something , anything relationship wise. Maybe have some single elf flirt with her because he didn't notice the ring ?

Author's reply

I can see your point. I once wrote a story along those very lines but it involves a woman from this world 'bamfing' into Middle-earth. It isn't posted here because it falls outside of the site guidelines. Haleth was really hoping something would happen, too. Thank-you for reviewing in spite of the frustrating characters. Haleth

Fiondil · 26 August 2012 · Chapter 32: On the Sea

Poor Haleth, expecting a kiss and not getting it. And just what could Inglor not tell by looking into her eyes? If these two are actually betrothed, it's going to be a long engagement in more ways than one. *grin* Let's hope Inglor gets a clue or a brain or something before Haleth simply wrings his neck.

Author's reply

Haleth has got to be crazy frustrated to get so close and then be denied. Are they betrothed or aren't they? Good question. It's hard to imagine anyone being in that particular situation. These two could have PhD's in non-communication. Thank-you for reviewing. Haleth

ainisarie · 25 August 2012 · Chapter 32: On the Sea

Maybe the sail should be damaged so they can spend a week on the boat. Do you think they just might get things straightened out a bit then? Either than or Haleth will toss Inglor overboard.

Author's reply

I don't know if tossing the sail overboard would work. If I were Inglor, I'd row for my life rather than spend extra time in a small boat with an annoyed Haleth. Then again, I'm not Inglor and I do have some sense of self-preservation. Thank-you for the review. Haleth

galathil · 25 August 2012 · Chapter 32: On the Sea

Thank you! Thank you! for a new chapter.I was so sure that they where going to kiss. I hope they survive the trip, without killing one another. Can't wait for the next one.LOL Galathil

Author's reply

Thank-you, Galathil. At this point it does look like survival is optional, isn't it?
