The fighting scene was clearly written. I liked that you switched from Aragorn to the narration in the kitchen and back. That cut it into agreeable pieces.
Silly comment: I was so happy to see the word "sheath". I had forgotten how it was spelled and it was making me crazy.
I had a mighty chuckle when Aragorn was revealed. Well, at least he is out and getting a grip on his... condition. *sighs with delight* The way he handles people; he is such a wonderful king!
-Kitt : )
Author's reply
Well, thank you! I am very, very happy that you thought it was good. I am still not particularly pleased with my action writing, but practice makes perfect, right? :)
Yes. Aragorn is a wonderful king. *nod* *swoons* Thanks for reviewing!

Aragorn did a great job, all things considered, but I was certainly glad when the guards arrived. And even if it lifted his incognito, it was good they recognised him. I'm not sure I want to imagine what would happen if they had arrested him! *grin*
But I have to object to his offer to pay for the damage. The ruffians should have to pay for it - they were the ones to start the fight, after all! Give them a heavy fine that not only pays for the damage, but covers the shock and everything for Aearhil and his family and employees, too!
Now I look forward to find out if Aragorn survives his return to Arwen ;-)
Author's reply
LOL! I actually once read a story when Aragorn, as king, was arrested in Minas Tirith. It was rather hilarious. I'm half-tempted to write it, myself, though coming up with a plotline that was plausible would be difficult. But there goes another plot bunny!
And your review, just like Sarah's, inspired some additions to chapter five :) Thank you!

Ouch. Aragorn may feel not well already, but when Arwen is through with him, he will feel decidedly worse.
As for Aragorn's little outing, it was only to be expected that something would go wrong. Incidents like this one had to happen sometimes in inns, and of course Aragorn would be one of these to intervene and protect the ones not trained to fight. Well, at least he had the presence of mind to send the boy for the guard ... but that doesn't bode well. Four to one, and this one is ill ...
*runs off to next chapter* (being late in reading and reviewing has its advantages - particularly as far as cliffhangers go)
Author's reply
*snort* Strong wives are truly the most fearful things to men ;)
And naturally something had to go wrong. I love throwing Murphy's Law onto Aragorn. I am such a mean author to my characters.
And I very much agree with that last statement! Cliffhangers can be awful to wait on.

It is easy to see why Aragorn sometimes wants to walk around incognito, simply watching his people, enjoying it not to have to be King. The restrictions of this office have to be rather tiring sometimes.
And it is very interesting, what he gets to hear in this inn. Why do I have the feeling there will be something changing about these public audiences very soon?
As for Captain Thorongil - I wonder if Corudir and his fellows will find out just *what* became of him?
Author's reply
I would imagine so. There is certainly a reason why I would never want to be insanely recognisable. Thanks again for reviewing, it was lovely to see reviews for all the chapters :)

Oh well, I don't know who's worse - these stubborn ones like Aragorn who refuse to acknowledge that they're not well until it has gotten really bad - or the ones who go to bed and decide they're dying because of a simple headache or a slight cold.
Anyway, as a healer, Aragorn certainly should know better! (And accept that the sickbed is *not* as bad as a cell - though that one had me laughing aloud!)
Love Faramir here, with his concern for Aragorn - and his 'Elrondian Eyebrow' ;-) The same goes for their relationship and the way Faramir in the end helped Aragorn to escape without the guard noticing him.
Author's reply
Oh, certainly the latter! They are usually the lazy type, while the former are the hard workers.
I actually was inspired by Aragorn's 'I am well no matter what you say' attitude not only by fanon (which has, admittedly, influenced me) but also my mother. She is a ridiculously hard worker and will never slow down until she collapses. She was, ironically, also a nurse once upon a time! I now associate hard workers with slight negligence to health, and Aragorn is certainly no slacker :)
Oh, the sickbed can be certainly awful, though! ;)
Thanks for the lovely review.

Poor Aragorn! I was amused at his dismay and chagrin at being recognised!
But I have to say, the peoples of Gondor & Arnor are very fortunate in their monarch...Aragorn showed great consideration for the innkeeper and his family, as well as much devotion to his people & their protection.
It would seem only fair, though, that the ruffians who were fighting bear some of the cost & labour of repairing the tavern. The whole thing was, after all, their fault.
Hope Aragorn feels better soon!
Hugs,

In the A/N of the fifth chapter I said I added some more to the story. Your review was one of those reviews that helped with an addition. (And what you said is very much the obvious- I was completely oblivious not to think of it before!)
Oh, and Aragorn is the only monarch I'd ever let myself be ruled under ;) They are very lucky.
Thank you again!

Exactly. Gosh, I hope Aragorn is soon tucked up in bed with tea and soup and healing-comfort! (Well, you know I always want that for everyone.) :)

And that is why the characters surely love you! I suppose it is nice to see them all tucked up in bed... afterwards ;) But there is a bed at the end!

Uh oh...He and his friends aren't dead, but once the Guard gets there and they realize just who they've attacked...They're going to wish they were. I'm thinking assult of the King pays a rather high penalty in Minas Tirith?
What a situation Aragorn's gotten himself into, but he couldn't turn away either. Can't blame Arwen for wanting to hit him upside the head right now...
Hope to see the next chapter up soon!! :o)

No kidding, though, to their credit, they didn't know he *was* king... (am I trying to defend these guys? *blink*) They're lucky that Aragorn is a merciful king.

Ooooooooooh he's going to get it this time. I wouldn't like to be in Aragorn's boots. If I were Aragorn, I would start figuring out how to protect my head once I got back to the Citadel.
He never learns, does he. No, he doesn't, and that's what I like about him. No matter what, he's always going to give his help to those who need it.
Great chapter, can't wait for the next one.

Thank you for giving me a laugh, although you could see what would happen, events were played out with great timing.
As for the characters, you captured all the personalities expertly from Arwen and Faramir to Aragorn, the innkeeper and the cusomers. You could almost feel the atmosphere from the inn surround you. Aragorn's nature was brought to life and indeed his musings on being a hero are not something I have seen described before.
I look forward to your next chapter with eagerness.

Yay, Aragorn gets to play the hero! Faramir matched Arwen fairly well, but I wonder what she is going to do now (I would not underestimate her creativity at all). Hmm, Arwen was exaggerating, right? when she said Aragorn was as reckless as he was 70 some years...
No, playing hero really is not good for headaches! (I hope a headache is the worst that will come of it.) *Worried*
-Kitt

I like Aragorn playing the hero. ^^ Such a guilty pleasure.
Well, Faramir certainly thought she was exaggerating; I have yet to consult Arwen about it, since she is still slightly peeved... Aragorn would certainly agree with Faramir ;)

I have my own ideas of what the Citadel would be like in my head, and have been a bit put off Fonstad's books by what I've heard said by others. But am interested in what you have done with it all, of course.

Fonstad's books are a good resource if you have absolutely no clue about geography and/or are too lazy to find everything in the books themselves ;) In the end, I do like her interpretation on Minas Tirith.
