*clap!*clap!*clap!* That was a fun story! I can imagine poor Aragorn being smothered by well meaning guards and meetings and the like...most of his life he's lived on his own with no one to report to...now he has a whole kingdom AND a wife! I can certainly understand his need to break away, especially when he's not feeling up to par. The opening banter between Aragorn and Faramir was hilarious! And I loved the overheard conversation about when he was Thorongil...I'm sure Aragorn was quite amused. And of course, knowing our ranger, he put himself in danger again to protect the innocent...our HERO! :) I just hope Arwen goes easy on him in the morning...he needs a little TLC.

Ah! Thanks for sharing the backstory. I'm glad you decided to re-work this and post it.

I really like Arwen in this chapter, calmly trying to reason with her boneheaded husband. I also like the servants, pretending not to notice the disheveled state of their king as he stumbles in the door. I can just see them gossiping about it later.

Thank you for an enjoyable story.I love reading stories about Aragorn as king as well as writing them!I liked your ARwen and Faramir too.

I enjoyed the deleted scene! It was funny! God bless! ~Szepilona10~

Larner · 6 May 2008 · Chapter 6: Original Premise and Deleted Scene

Very interesting indeed! Heh!

Larner · 6 May 2008 · Chapter 5: Chapter Five

My husband would get outraged due to the anxiety he felt when I didn't get home on time. I feel with both of them at this point. Now, to look at the deleted scenes. Heh!

Estelcontar · 5 May 2008 · Chapter 6: Original Premise and Deleted Scene

The dialogue is not as bad as you make it to be. I've read a lot worse. I'm glad though you got rid of the gangs. This way you changed a somewhat melodramatic and implausible plot into something more mature I think. Can't wait for the next story.

Estelcontar · 5 May 2008 · Chapter 4: Chapter Four

A good ending to a most enjoyable story! I liked the fact that you left some plot lines open-ended and did not try to explain everything. it's much more believable this way, and of course we all know what Aragorn is going to do about Corudir's problem without having it spelled out to us. And I liked your Arwen. She's a very wise-hearted person indeed, who knows Aragorn most thoroughly and how to deal with him. I'm betting that on his next escapade he'll let her know where he's going. "'But you cannot blame him,' the voice of reason suddenly said. 'After all, he had just seen you in a tavern brawl.'" Very good line, which shows that Aragorn, though stubborn, is a just man. I'm glad you're writing again.

A not to implausible scene! Though I loved the innkeeper no matter what...

Agape4Gondor · 5 May 2008 · Chapter 5: Chapter Five

Poor, poor Aragorn - it seems as if the Powers really dislike him... at least this day! I laughed out loud when he thought of Arwen's response to his appearance... and then Faramir's! :-) It appears our King has a mean streak or mischivious streak about him - the poor guards. Scalawag! I ROTFL when they responded to his presence! Great chapter - I'm glad Arwen was not too caustic in her remarks. Though I had hoped she might have removed his boots???? As for the 'guard' - thanks for having someone tail him. It seemed appropraite and I hope they're not in trouble. Lovely tale all the way around. Based on such a simple thing as a cold.... well, simple until one nasty sinus infection knocks you for a loop!

Great ending! I particularly liked Arwen quoting Eowyn and I would have loved to see the faces of the two guards when Aragorn revealed his identity :)

Oh, I don't know, the deleted scene is believeable, I have read much worse, all except for the gold coin, silver would have been more appropriate, think of the 36 silver pennies Butterber gave Merry for the ponies! More please, Lynda

Kitt Otter · 5 May 2008 · Chapter 6: Original Premise and Deleted Scene

Wonderful wrap-up! Arwen had her say, and Aragorn finally got to bed. He still will have a lot to say when he wakes. Eowyn is perfectly right. *grins stupidly* Now you are right also: of course Arwen and Aragorn would have some... issues. I enjoyed this story immensely! And thanks for the extra scene. -Kitt :)

shirebound · 5 May 2008 · Chapter 5: Chapter Five

It's wonderful to see the love (and fussing) between these two. And I'm glad Aragorn is safely tucked into bed. :)

Sometimes RL gives one the best ideas for stories, doesn't it? Glad you didn't have to fight off ruffians when you were ill ;-) The deleted scene made me smile. Oh yes, Aragorn must have had a hard time to keep from laughing aloud! It's fun to imagine the face of the innkeeper when he finally realised just *who* this stranger was after this conversation! Lovely story - thank you!

Kitty · 5 May 2008 · Chapter 5: Chapter Five

That went surprisingly well for Aragorn - Arwen was rather understanding, all things considered, and I was glad for it, as he's already not well and a serious talking-to wouldn't help just now. And I was glad she understood that he sometimes simply has to escape the restraints of his office and to be only one person among many. Though I felt a little bit sorry for the guards who tried to protect him and were tricked once again ;-) And I am very satisfied to know that he'll make the ruffians pay for the damage! They certainly deserve it.

meckinock · 3 May 2008 · Chapter 4: Chapter Four

It's good to see Elessar hasn't gone all soft sitting up in the White Tower. Good for him to stretch his legs and refresh his bar-fighting skills once in a while. Although it is somewhat embarrassing to be handcuffed by your own guards. it was going to be rather difficult to explain this to his wife. LOL, no doubt! I loved the moment when his guards recognized him. They must have seen their lives flash before their eyes. Oh, well, all except the one who decided to interrogate him, that is. Nice kid, if a bit on the cheeky side. I really liked Aragorn's moment of disorientation, just before he realized that since everyone had figured out he was the king, he might as well start acting like one. I can totally see that happening. Oh, wait, I'm the king. Need to issue orders LOL. I'm really intrigued by this not-drunk guy with the sword-fighting skills and the bad attitude. I hope we get to find out what his deal is. Great chapter, Suvi.

Author's reply

Elessar, getting soft? Never! ... oh dear Elbereth, let that never happen! *shudders* My hero-worshipping may falter if I imagine him as soft. ;) Bar-fighting is a required skill for any Ranger, king or no. After all, when you're a Ranger in a fan fic, there is just someone out there, waiting for you in a bar, ready to get you. Must keep those skills up to date. Ah, yes, the seven nameless guards that were smart enough to keep their mouths shut. The last one, he really has no sense of self-preservation. I've met quite a few people like that, actually. Fascinating bunch. Luckily for him Aragorn is a decent guy. Ahhh... well, I tried talking to him, myself. Unfortunately they didn't let me, due to Elessar's orders. So I'm not quite sure what his deal is, either. I'll have to ask Aragorn when he questions the man, though it may take a while to get answers... Thanks for reviewing <3

Agape4Gondor · 2 May 2008 · Chapter 4: Chapter Four

Excellent chapter. Great fight! Good grief - I'm glad he got away uninjured. Can you imagine the ruckus that would face him if he had! Arwen and Faramir furious... not a pretty picture. One little thing - I really can't see the guards leaving him alone after that. But great tale!

Author's reply

Well, a few bruises here and there- but yes, for the most part, pretty well off. I suppose I'm not as mean as I thought I was ;) Agape- your comment inspired an added scene in chapter five. Thank you!

Agape4Gondor · 2 May 2008 · Chapter 3: Chapter Three

Whoo hoo! Aragorn to the rescue - nicely written! Oh - I've forgotten Arwen in the midst of the battle - great conversation between her and Faramir - it was delightful. And poor Arwen - well, she must have known what she was getting into when she married him!

Author's reply

True. After all, he *is* the heir of Beren and Luthien, and Earendil, and Elros, and Amandil, Elendil, and Isildur... and more royal Dunedain who certainly had a rather rebellious streak! They couldn't have survived so long otherwise ;)

Estelcontar · 2 May 2008 · Chapter 4: Chapter Four

For someone who can't write fight scenes, you've just written a very exciting one. I liked the way you cut back and forth between the kitchen and the tavern room. It was great to see the fight from the eyes of the observers. So, now he is sick because he's been fighting. LOL Stubbornness Thy Name Is Aragorn. "I found myself with some spare time, and went out for a stroll." This had me laughing out loud. It's got to be the understatement of the year. And I like your Randir. He is a most wise-hearted person. Can't wait for the conclusion.

Agape4Gondor · 2 May 2008 · Chapter 2: Chapter Two

Wow - what a great chapter. So easygoing and descriptive yet fun. I really liked the bar scene and the patrons. Glad they 'kept a civil tongue' especially about Lord Denethor. Good to see that Aragorn is able to listen and perhaps do something for them. Especially since they are old soldiers of Gondor. I like that he would look after them!

Author's reply

Considering that Gondor is very much a hierachial monarchy, I also like to think that Aragorn would think of those at the bottom- and old soldiers would certainly be there.

Agape4Gondor · 2 May 2008 · Chapter 1: Chapter One

Great start. I enjoyed his time with Faramir - and was grateful for the mercy shown the guards. As for the note in the beginning regarding the bells - it's something good to know. I've always had trouble with Tolkien's blasted bells!

Author's reply

Tolkien's bells *are* really difficult. It took me a couple hours to finally figure out how the bells worked.

Tigger · 2 May 2008 · Chapter 4: Chapter Four

I had a feeling at the end of it all, someone would recognize Aragorn. The second worst person too, being in the form of the son of the Captain of his Personal Guard!! Dare I say our stubborn, dear Ranger King is in for more than just one scolding over this and not only from Arwen? The good thing about this happening is that Aragorn did get to hear what the common people think of things and defended his people in a very physical manner. That tale will spread like wildfire and will only be for the good. Especially the part of Aragorn insisting on paying for the drink and the company. I can't see Denethor paying for anything when he went out to dine. *If* he went out to dine that is. I don't think Denethor would insist on paying for the repair of the Inn and replacement of any furniture beyond repair either. Yes, Aragorn's going to end up paying for this in a big way because he didn't listen to the signs his body was telling him. OTOH...Things may end up being far better in the long term due to his little "jaunt". Looking forward to the next chapter and seeing what happens to the Ruffians.

Author's reply

There are very few people who can get away with scolding the King of the Reunited Kingdom. And I gave most of them a good reason to go after him. Ah, I love being the All-Powerful Author. I am honestly not sure about Denethor. I personally believe it would depend on what stage of his life he was in. Before the death of Finduilas I think he would be just enough. While I do not see him to be one to dine in some common tavern, I think he'd pay for his food if he did go out. After her death and his deterioration due to the Palantir, though, I think he became a completely different man. So I do have to give him some credit, pre-Palantir. I never really thought about all the rumors that would spread about him being in the city. Can you even imagine how much they would be escalated in a couple days? "I heard he took on twenty men unarmed!" "And they were armed to the teeth!" "And he went out without a scratch!" Ah, rumors. What fun.

Andrea · 2 May 2008 · Chapter 4: Chapter Four

Great story so far! I have very much enjoyed reading it. To be revealed by one of his own guards was surely not what Aragorn had expected. But that way he could use his authority to get those ruffians imprisoned and to make sure that the boy who fetched the guards reached his home safely. He's the best king one could wish for :) But what will his dear wife say when he comes home? I fear there's trouble ahead ;-)

Author's reply

Thank you! I hope you enjoy the last chapter of the story :)
