Lindarion is quite determined to share his obsession for sailingwith his new-found cousin *grin* Don’t know if to be glad that he makes such an effort, or to be sorry for Beleg with his sea sickness.
Love that anecdote about Cirdan :)
That visit to the shop is turning out quite entertaining – and interesting. Looks like they need to have an eye on this Gellamion and any that might think in the same way. Well, for the moment, Beleg took very good care of the problem *eg* I’m looking forward to know how that visit – and the relationship with this guy – are turning out. Once again, you’re proving the master in leaving your readers hanging ... :-/
The visit in the Blue Dolphin Inn went much better, at least for the moment. But where on earth are Finrod and Glorfindel? I hope they didn’t find trouble again.
Whatever your internet woes are, I hope they’re solved soon. It’s always so annoying to have to deal with that sort of problem!

Good chapter.... very interesting - I do hope the delay is not due to a problem???
Good luck with you own internet problems.....
Author's reply
Hi Agape. I think everyone's favorite line is that one. *grin* Glad you enjoyed the chapter. And of course the delay is due to a problem. This is Finrod and Glorfindel we are talking about here. *lol*
Thanks for your concern. Unfortunately the internet problems will not be resolved too soon as part of the system was destroyed by recent flooding. Luckily, I have access to an internet cafe that is not too expensive to use.

Hm, looks like Finrod and Glorfi aren't the only ones who need to stay out of trouble!
Liked Belegs cuss, makes a change from Orc-spit!
The differance in attitude is very interesting, I wonder if it varies with how long people have been on Tol Eressea and how well they are doing?
More please,
Lynda
Author's reply
Hi, Lynda. I imagine the difference in attitude has to do with how long people have been on the island and what their personal experiences have been. Those who have been there for a short time, like Laurendil, Gilvagor and Mithlas, are less antagonistic than those who have been there for longer.
Glad you liked Beleg's cuss word. I was so happy when I found that there really was an attested word for "food" in Sindarin.

New chapter of EI2? *Before* I leave for Disneyland??? *beams* Yay!
(of course, I'm sorry about the internet woes, Atar Fiondil, but this is positively delightful for me because by the time I get back on Sunday it'd probably be too late for me to be awake to enjoy it!)
And enjoy it I did! :) it was absolutely wonderful, especially the reactions to the kings, although I have to say I didn't care much for that one ellon's...Gellamion's...attitude.
Question: Ciryatan? I thought his original name was Nowë. Or was it Nowë, then Ciryatan which got translated to Cirdan?
and you managed to mention ginger biscuits! I have to say, Rhyselle's are particularly excellent. *grin* I've made them using her recipe. :)
"Did you call him Beleg?" *wry grin* What do you know, he did. :D
Orchvann: Orc-food. Hey, I've learned a new insult! *snicker*
Tye-melin,
Kaylee!
Author's reply
Hi Kaylee. About your question concerning Cirdan... it made more sense for Olwe to refer to him as Ciryatan which is just a Quenya form of Cirdan, since that is how he is known to most. Very few of the Elves would remember or know his original name was Nowe.
I'm glad you found the chapter positively delightful and that you greatly enjoyed it, especially the reaction of the kings. And I´m glad I was able to post this before you left for Disneyland. Have a great time.

Atar Fiondil,
Sorry about the late review!
I love Tavrobel's description...now I want a picture of it. *grin* I see I'm not the only one who loved this line:
"Tell us about Finrod Felagund," she said. "Is he really as handsome and noble as all the ballads say?"
*grin* Of course he is, he's Finda. Amarie is the perfect person to ask *lol*
I was dismayed to hear reports of Laurendil being taken "prisoner" by the Amaneldi though...waiting to see what will happen next. Indeed the Tol Eresseans are not the only ones who need healing, the Amaneldi need it, too.
Tye-melin,
Kaylee!
Author's reply
Hi Kaylee. Sorry, no photos of Tavrobel. You will have to make do with your own imagination. *grin* I did model the description of the homes on wooden houses I saw while traveling through Siberia last summer. Many of them had turquoise-painted shutters and doors.
Everyone needs healing, both in Aman and on Tol Eressea. We will see how it all comes out in the end.
Tye-melin.

This is all very intriguing with all of the rumors. I do wonder who started them and why as well as what wil happen to them once the kings get ahold of them. Wouldn't it be horrible if the rumors came from folks from Aman trying to keep the division between the two lands as deep as possible?
I loved the romantic notions of how handsome is Finrod anyway there at eh end. that was too funny! and It was probably comething that was likely to happen. It is amazing how much we can romanticize folks in song and legend.
I liked the parents we meet in this chapter, too. They are suitably alarmed by they why learn, but yet they are willing to talk and listen. I wonder how many others will be so willing to listen to what is being said by those of Aman?
Can't wait for more! Do you have to post only once a week?
Author's reply
Hmm... well as to who is spreading the rumors and why, that remains to be seen. Even *I* don't know all the particulars. Theee Elves are a cagey lot and keep things close to their chests. You have no idea what I go through just to get a *name* out of them! *lol*
Anyway, Nimbrethil is still quite young by elvish lights and so is in that romantic stage that young females tend to go through at some point in their development. And let's face it, Finrod is a very romantic (in the older sense of the word, i.e. a fit subject for 'medieval romance') character, which is why he's always been my favorite First-Age Elf.
I'm glad you like the parents. They are both Noldor who feel that they no longer are worthy to belong in Valinor because of their history. Their children's story, though, will go a long way towards healing their bitterness.
Do you have to post once a week?
At least it's not once a year, like some people do! *lol* Be grateful for that, at least.

Hi Fiondil,
Hmmm...there are several little teasers in this chapter that I hope we may hear about later on.
I'm hoping that Eäralato will not need the ring Gilvagor left with him, but I'm also busy thinking up ways the ring might be significant in later chapters. But yes, that scene was a bit of an eyeopener, to say the least. I think Gilvagor may at some time in the future be quite a fount of information for Glorfindel.
I did a mental wince when I heard Haldir's and Olwë's remarks to the young ellyn. I am glad they took it in stride and were agreeable, as it did sound very much like an order--especially what Olwë said. I had visions of a mini-rebellion taking place and the Progress grinding to a halt before it had hardly started.
The suspicions of Boromir and Morwen are sad to hear, but understandable under the circumstances. It is really hard to know what is "right" when living in a veritable vacuum as far as information goes, or even if only one side of a story is told. I like Eregil's comment, "better late than never." I think it was good that he let the Tol Eressëan's know he is only recently reborn, with the implication that he has literally been plunked in the middle of whatever misunderstadings and disputes exist between the Tol Eressëans and the Amaneldi.
Oh yes, it sounds like a big order for Sador and Laurendil to have to keep both Glorfindel and Finrod in line. Hopefully we'll find out next week if that was necessary.
And lastly, I want to know how Amarië answers Nimbrethil's question-if only for the reason that it would let us know a little more about how she see's Finrod now that things are going well between them and the wedding date has been set, no matter how far in the future that may be. *grin*
As always, well done! And I know you realize you're an expert at leaving your readers anticipating the next chapter...there's always more to find out and I can't wait!
Thank Fiondil.
Joanne
Author's reply
Hi, Joanne. You're right that Gilvagor (and others) will be a font of information for Glorfindel as he eventually prepares for his return to Middle-earth.
Yet another person who thinks Olwë was issuing an order at the six ellyn. *shakes head* Maybe, but I think Olwë was just making a suggestion, offering the services of his people to help them move their camp, nothing more. And I think the six ellyn secretly wanted to be stay the night at the camp so even if it did sound like an order to them they would have accepted anyway. *grin*
The Tol Eressëans have a number of Reborn among them who are clueless about the animosities that are festering on the island, especially since they have been in greater contact with the Amaneldi who cared for them in Lórien. Eregil pointing out that he's so new to Life again that he doesn't even know if he would be welcome among the Tol Eressëans (with the unspoken implication that he already has been welcomed among the Amaneldi with whom he is traveling) is a reminder to Boromir and Morwen that not all who might reside in Tol Eressëa feel towards the Amandeldi as they do.
The saga of Finrod and Glorfindel won't be revealed for a couple of weeks, unfortunately, so you'll have to rein in your impatience just a little longer. *grin* I'm glad though that you are looking forward to what happens next. Hopefully, I will not disappoint.
I think I'll leave it to the imagination of the readers what Amarië's (and Alassiel's) response to Nimbrethil's query about Finrod was. Or maybe I'll have Nimbrethil meet Finrod in a future chapter and she can see for herself. *grin*

Hm, I could see some people making that interpritation of Laurendil and Manwen's failure to retun to Tol Eressea, there are still those who want to cause trouble, for their own reasons, none of which are clear to me! Some people just like to stir things up and watch the ants scurry.
Me thinks Nimbrethiel has something of a crush on our Finrod, Amarie had better watch out for screaming fan girls :<)!
It is a pity that there has not been more communication between the Amanaldi and the Tol Eresseans, a lot of the misinformation could have been prevented if there had been, it seems almost deliberate as there must have been some contact since they do receive some supplies from Aman, food especially, since I don't think Tol Eressea is arable enough to support a large population.
Hope Finrod and Glorfi behave them selves!
More please,
Lynda
Hope this makes it to you, my internet connection has been a bit iffy since last night, apparantly it is system wide and not just me!
Author's reply
Hi Lynda. The reasons for causing trouble never have to be clear to those who are not the troublemakers. Often, such reasons as given make no sense to those of us who are on the outside of these little groups. And sometimes, the only reason is there is no reason. People feed on their own hatreds to the point where even they don't really know why they do what they do. The insecurities of the Tol Eressëans coupled by the unwelcome of the Amandeldi (either deliberate or not) has festered into something dark and potentially dangerous. Tol Eressëa, having once been part of Middle-earth is more tainted by Morgoth's evil than Aman itself, and therein may lie the problem. Even the island needs cleansing.
The interaction of the two groups of Elves has been very limited in the 500 years since Tol Eressëa was opened up to the Elves of Middle-earth and 500 years for Elves isn't all that long. Arafinwë and Olwë unfortunately did not really take the time to examine the situation on the island until now. Perhaps had they kept a closer eye on things the problmes they are facing would not have arisen or be less of a problem than they are. (Of course, had they done so, there would be no story *grin*.)
We will have to wait a couple of more weeks to see what Finrod and Glorfi get up to as next week we'll see what happens with Arafinwë's and Olwë's groups.

"Haldir is correct," Olwë said. "Take some of our guards with you and bring your things here." Hmmmm - I'm glad you had the 'home town' Elves take a moment to decide. This sounded so very close to an order that my own hackles rose..... But I'm sure poor Olwe wouldn't have a clue as he is so used to giving orders and expecting them to be obeyed.... *g*
I had to giggle - I don't know why, but the little 'groups' going into people's homes, though a wise idea, reminded me too much of the little groups assembled in people's homes to query candidates for election....
"Hmm.... all these family connections are becoming too confusing," Arafinwë quipped and the two kings laughed." Yes - I think they would give even Sam a run for the money in trying to keep them all straight! Elvish family trees - shees!
I do so hope we don't have a repeat of what happened to poor Sador.... *shivers*
Author's reply
Hi, Agagpe. Olwë issuing orders? Perish the thought. *lol* Oh well, when you're a king it's rather hard not to act like one, but in truth, he was merely inviting them. I'm sure had the ellyn (politely) refused their offer, the kings would have let them go.
Initially, the Amaneldi were going to split up into small groups led by one of the Tol Eressëans among them (Laurendil, Manwen, GIlvagor, Haldir and MIthlas) and wander through the town, but having the six ellyn join them and take them to see their families makes the visits more intimate.
What will happen during the course of the Progress (good and bad) remains to be seen. I promise though, it won't (hopefully) be boring. *grin*

Nice idea to have the six young Tol Eressëans camping out with the others. I would have liked to be there, too.
"Hmm.... all these family connections are becoming too confusing," *lol* How true! Sometimes I just have to have a look at my self-made family tree to sort all these Elves out! I swear everyone is related to everyone else in at least two ways!
Gilvagor’s ring from Gil-Galad was another nice touch. Though Gilvagor will have to wait a very long while for his king to come back ...
Poor Eärnur. I know how he feels ... :-/
Laurendil and Manwen are prisoners on the mainland?? *jaw drops* Who on earth did spread this nonsense? It’s really about time for the Elves on the island and the mainland to get to know each other better, to put a stop to certain parties spreading such nasty rumours! Makes me wonder how the ones spreading the rumours will react to the living counterevidence walking in and spoiling their well-thought out plans *eg*
Anyway, this visit turned out well and will probably convince at least this one family that things aren’t as they thought. As Valandur once said, they can only convince one elf at a time, so that seems to be a good first step.
"Tell us about Finrod Felagund," she said. "Is he really as handsome and noble as all the ballads say?" *ROFL* Now that’s just the perfect question to ask his betrothed!
Author's reply
Hi, Kitty. Trying to keep tabs on all the family connections can be quite confusing. I even had to consult Wikipedia once to figure out how to determine to what degree of cousinship Elrond and Gil-galad were. *lol* And I had to figure it twice, once with Orodreth as Gil-galad's father (Tolkien's final decision on this) and the other with Fingon as his father (per the Silmarillion). What a headache!
Anyway, whoever the rumormongers are and why no one from Tol Eressëa who knows that truth (Gilvagor and those who participated in the Tournament) seems to have heard of them and tried to counter them will be reveal later as well as how these rumormongers react to seeing Laurendil and Manwen on Tol Eressëa.
Hopefully, these visits with the families of the six ellyn will go a long way towards healing the breach between the Tol Eressëans and the Amaneldi.

It seems that there are _still_ people stirring up trouble on Tol Eressëa. It shall be interesting to see how Laurendil is going to react when he hears that he is supposed to be a prisoner of the Amaneldi. Perhaps he is even going to forget that he gave up being a warrior after Finrod was killed. And speaking of reactions – how will _Irmo_ react to the rumours of _his apprentice_ being some sort of prisoner? :-o
The appearance of all those Amaneldi - and not to mention Manwen and Laurendil – are no doubt going to create problems for the troublemakers. I don’t tink it is very likely that they will remain bystanders as the guests from the mainland undermine their plans by their mere presence.
Nimbrethil sounds like a young teenager mooning over Orlando Bloom here – and just from the poetry featuring Finrod!! ;-)
Author's reply
Hi, Sunny. We won't see Laurendil's reaction to the rumors about he and Manwen being kidnapped for a couple of weeks as next week we will see how Arafinwë and Olwë fare during their visit.
As for what the reaction of the troublemakers will be remains to be seen.
And Nimbrethil is quite young by elvish standards -- not even 500! -- so she's allowed to be teenagey. *lol*

Wild berry pie. Now that was to funny.
Loved the description of the hunters faces when the Valar showed up. To bad they don't have cameras in Aman.*sigh*
I didn't relies till the other day that Earendil is in Aman. Question. Seeing that Glorfindel tends to be a little obsessive where Earendil(and Turgon) is concerned, why hasn't Glorfindel gone crazy? Or does he not know about Earendil's whereabouts?
Thanks for writing such interesting stories
Mr.Namo
Author's reply
Until recently, Glorfindel was kept from remembering Eärendil or being able to see Eärendil's Star (he still can't see it, in fact). He knows that Eärendil is somewhere in Aman, but does not know where exactly. He's already decided to find him, though he knows he can't just go off looking. Hence, any impatience he might be feeling about it he has put aside for other consideratinos, in particular the present Progress through Tol Eressëa. Glorfindel has matured enough to understand priorities. Eventually, though, he will seek Eärendil out, but what comes of that remains to be seen.
Yes, it would have been a neat 'Kodak moment', seeing the faces of the six hunters when the Valar showed up. *grin*

Hi Fiondil,
I'm thinking that this confluence of elves is not due as much to coincidence as it is to providence. I suspect the Valar have given at least a few of the involved parties a nudge in the right direction, especially since Oromë and Vána show up to "gate crash" the party. Maybe we'll find out in subsequent chapters whether I'm right or wrong. *grin*
One hopes that since the locals are relatively young they may have some influence on their contemporaries on Tol Eressëa as well as on their elders, as their meeting with the kings and company and the Valar appears so far to have been a pleasant event. I wonder if these young ones might provide a key to the solution because they are not so set in how they might view a possible government/leader for the island. It will be interesting to see how you bring this to fruition.
Might I just say-and I think its been said before-that IMHO you do an excellant job of providing information by way of conversations between characters. A lot of information changed hands in this chapter, and it seemed to just flow naturally from the conversation between the characters at hand.
And wildberry pie-no fair! I read this chapter before breadfast yesterday morning, and I've been craving pie ever since. I know where to find delicious wild blackberry pie, but it's over a two hour drive...oh well!
Thanks Fiondil. I look forward to the next chapter with great anticipation.
Joanne
Author's reply
Hi, Joanne. Most likely you are correct that this confluence of elves is due more to providence than coincidence. Certainly Oromë and Vána didn't just *happen* to stop by, though just what their purpose is doing so is somewhat opaque. Hopefully, they will clue me in eventually. *grin*
It is usually the young people who make the changes (think back to the 60s and all the radical movements that changed the way Americans see themselves these days), and most likely they will be the ones who will influence their elders in this regard. Certainly, these six ellyn are open to change.
And thank you for your kind words about my ability to provide information by way of conversations and keeping the flow natural. It's not an easy thing to do and I'm always worried about the flow. Many readers prefer action to talking, but sometimes the talking is what moves the story along, as well as provide needed information so the reader can appreciate what happens next.
As for wildberry pie... I used to just go to the supermarket and pick up frozen mixed berries and a ready-made pie shell. Saves on gas and I didn't break my back picking the berries. *grin*
Thanks for your review, Joanne. I'm glad you are looking forward to the next chapter. The next several chapters will actually show the different groups of Amanian elves interacting with the family and friends of the six hunters so we will see lots of different interactions, some positive, some negative.

That was a delightful chapter!
The appearance of Orome and Vana was incredibly funny ( I truly enjoyed the banter between them and the elves: what a shock that must have been to the young Tol Eresseans that anyone would dare to behave like that toward the Valar *snicker* What a sight their faces must have been! lol)
Somehow I can understand that they didn´t tell their parents about the encounter: having secrets can be fun ;-)
Archaeology is a fascinating subject (I actually "planed" my career as a eleven year old, though I can´t remember what actually triggered the wish to become an archaeologist...) I know it will be hard to find a job, but that doesn´t frighten me off!

And just two of the elflings who had contact with maiar before now met the group first. Interesting coincidence.

The Amanians, even those who fought in the War of Wrath, have less experience in the fine art of treachery." This last was said sardonically and the other three Reborn nodded grimly in agreement. Arafinwë’s expression was pained. The Vala’s expression became instantly unreadable to any of them.
I understand Glorfindel's point in general, but isn't he a little mistaken here? I think of Morgoth's lies while in Aman, or of Ingwë's brother (whatever the heck he was up to during the darkening *mumbling about meeeeean spoilers and secrets*, and then later with the business of Glorfindel's kidnapping), for example. Especially as they are actually discussing Ingoldo.
I know this was just one tinly detail, but for some reason I very much appreciated Arafinwë's repeated insistence that Glorfindel not be alone during the festivities.
Author's reply
Hi, Imhiriel. You have a good point, though it's Finrod who mentions treachery, rather than Glorfindel. Of course, both were victims of treachery to one degree or another and I think the point that is being made here is that in Beleriand there was, so to speak, a 'fine tradition of treachery' almost from the word 'go'. This isn't necessarily the case in Aman where acts of treachery are more isolated events.
And I appreciate you telling me that you appreciated Arafinwë's repeated insistence that Glorfindel not be alone during the festivities. It's those tiny details, I think, that make or break a story (or chapter) for the reader.
