· Chapter 19: There Was A Hobbit - A Drabble (Boromir/Haldir)
Okay--what a way to work our culture into Middle Earth!
Author's reply
It's all Toller's fault. If he hadn't put down that he was going to name Frodo Bingo - then the thought might never have come. But the MUSE knew and goaded me! Hope it at least brought a smile to your face.

· Chapter 18: Taters - A Quadrabble (Sam in Minas Tirith)
The argument with Smeagol coming back to haunt him, with him being unwilling to discuss the creature with Faramir? This one has me bugged a bit.
Author's reply
Oh Larner! I miswrote, if that is what you think. He was unwilling to discuss this in front of Arwen... ever kind and sensible and thinking of others, there is no way the Hobbit would do anything to hurt Arwen or bring 'horror' into her life... EVEN knowing that she had seen, in her long years, many horrors... the gentle Hobbit would not allow speak of such things in front of her. Already he must have been horrified to know that he had caused her to cry.
And if I have any clue as to the 'characteristics' of Aragorn and Faramir - I do not think they will let this lie...

This was hilarious, I can just imagine it !
Author's reply
Thanks, Linda. Though we know our sweet 'Tree' Elf would never do such a thing, perhaps it was on a day when he wanted to 'tease' Aragorn! Well, he definitely got a rise - not only from Aragorn but Arwen too!

It really isn't a very sober image . . .

No, Faramir has it right. Much too funny!!
hehehe

Poor Faramir tried to be serious too, PT - so you're in good company!!!!

· Chapter 17: Crossroads Village - A Tribble (Legolas/Aragorn)
Whoops, I think the elf has gone into construction mode. I don't think this is what Aragorn had in mind.
Author's reply
ROTFL - I don't think it's what any of them would have in mind.
Perhaps Legolas felt a little discomfitted because Gimli and friends were probably working in a grandiose way in Minas Tirith. Perhaps the Elf was a little envious of the fine machinery being used by the Dwarves and felt a little 'envy?'

· Chapter 6: Not Forgotten - A Double Drabble (Imrahil)
It truly was almost too much to lose, wasn't it?
Author's reply
How these people, or for that matter, any people in the midst of a great war that decimates so much of what one loves - how they ever survived and smiled again is beyond me.... except for moments like this - when the offspring of one that is touched beyond endurance sallies forth in innocent joy!

Ah, the peace of it all. Frodo had earned it.

Sometimes I think all four of the Hobbits really earned it... but Frodo could not continue the way he was... so best he

· Chapter 8: Ent-Draught - A Drabble (Treebeard)
Treebeard must have missed those hasty hobbits for some time after they left him. This made me smile.

I'm glad, GW - smiling is important - and very important to Hobbits, I think. They would have liked to know they made you and Treebeard smile!

Oh, this one got to me. I think anyone who has lost a pet would react just as Faramir and Boromir did. Beautifully done.
Author's reply
Thank you GW - I think it's hardest when a pet means something even beyond the normal boundaries of a 'pet' - when my Lab died, it was even more difficult because the lab had been my deceased husband's dog. It was like losing another 'remembrance' of my husband. Which is why it seemed particularly hard for Faramir...

For some reason I have always loved that part of the film. I like the drama of it and the way they all work together so that no one is left behind. Lovely!
Author's reply
But the funniest thing is that Frodo is left almost to the last... now wouldn't it have seemed wiser to save the Ringbearer! LOL
As for the rest of it, YES - I am so glad that PJ added this little part to the tale - in my mind, it is now fanon... And to think it came about by just a little pencil drawing that, I think it was Alan Lee, showed him... the gap in the stairs then became the scene that was so tense and wonderful...

Such a position to be put in! This was very moving.
Author's reply
Thank you. As I wrote, this started out as a drabble but it became so important that I used it and added to it for my epic tale, 10,000 Years Would Not Suffice...

· Chapter 16: No Money for Extras - A Drabble (young Sam)
Sam must have been very enterprising and getting a bit of extra money would have been on his mind a great deal I should think.
Author's reply
With all the children to feed, it would seem to me that coin would not be readily available for the Gaffers' children... even though Bilbo must have been a generous employer, still - to have a bit of pocket change for a child is very nice indeed... for things like gumballs and slingshots and the ability to buy a kerchief once in awhile for his mum... hmmmmm...

· Chapter 14: Fatty's Anguish - A Double Drabble (Fatty Bolger)
Hobbits are such social beings that I do suspect that Fredegar suffered from the loss of contact with his friends almost as much as he did from lack of food.
Author's reply
Oh GW - that is profound... yes, the lack of food (and the hideous weight loss that told of it) was just the tip of the iceberg for a sociable Hobbit... so very sad... and then to see them going off again... just tripped a minor explosion in the poor Hobbit's mind.... and he's back in the Shire with the ruffians all about and stuck in the Lockholes!

· Chapter 15: Boromir on Feanor - A Double Drabble (Boromir/Faramir)
I find myself giggling--blame it ALL on poor Feanor! Poor, foolish, great Elven smith that he was. Yet as it was Morgoth who lusted after light and not Sauron I think that Boromir's blaming Feanor for Sauron's choices as well as Pelendur's.
Author's reply
I definitely think he was, Larner; you're right in that... but it was Sauron who was taken prisoner and brought to Numenor - and Sauron's lies that brought the downfall of Numenor... Sauron was a Maiar... a servant of one of the Valar... therefore, in Boromir's thoughts... closely aligned with any who betrayed Middle-earth... and Sauron's betrayal led to the desolation that lay before Boromir's eyes in Morgoth... convoluted...
And yes - everything is ALL Feanor's fault! ROTFL

· Chapter 14: Fatty's Anguish - A Double Drabble (Fatty Bolger)
So, you think that perhaps Freddy might have seen and secretly followed? But this time Frodo didn't return, although the rest did.
Poor Fatty.
Certainly Frodo was written as having suffered PTSD--and considering what he went through I'd be surprised if he didn't manifest it.
Author's reply
None can surpass the suffering of Frodo.... Sam was a close second, and then Merry & Pippin... for those of the Shire... but Fatty - first, he ran interference for Frodo and the rest of them at Crickhollow... then in the forefront of the rebellion in the Shire.... and then thrown into the Lockholes - the horror of it so incredible that he was almost unrecognizable when he was released....
I think, if he had seen them leave, he would have followed...

It is so hard to lose our four-footed friends. They often know things no one else does . . . because we can be sure they won't repeat it.
A lovely gift for you friend.
Author's reply
Thanks Pearl. I've lost two dogs in the recent past and the pain is difficult. So when my friend lost her dog, it was easy enough (though hard emotionally) to put myself in her place and just hug her with this longish drabble.

· Chapter 13: Choices - A Double Drabble (Thorongil)
This must be even MORE interesting in the expanded version. I found Thorongil's dilemma thoroughly engrossing here; indeed, things are not going to fall out as planned!
Author's reply
I have pondered Thorongil's reasons for leaving for a very long time... I cannot believe that he, of all people, would not rue the rift that was developing between the future King and his Steward....
And knowing the time was not yet right - he really only had one choice...
