Pearl Took · 11 August 2007 · Chapter 25: Fey Were His Thoughts - A Tribble (Boromir/The Fellowship)

As tense as the scene it comes from! Dear Boromir, bless him!

Author's reply

Thanks, Pearl. I don't write much movie verse, but this scene is one of my favorites....

Pearl Took · 11 August 2007 · Chapter 24: Sarn Gebir - A Quadrabble (Boromir/The Fellowship)

A powerful look at this powerful moment in the books. Well done!

Author's reply

Thanks, PT. Boromir's frustration throughout the trip had to be growing. He could only hold still so long!

Larner · 11 August 2007 · Chapter 24: Sarn Gebir - A Quadrabble (Boromir/The Fellowship)

A wonderful moment well, well wrought.

Author's reply

Thank you. I do love this scene in the book. It was difficult for the entire Fellowship. How they must have thought they were doomed!

Larner · 11 August 2007 · Chapter 23: Yearning - A Drabble (Legolas)

One of the griefs with which Legolas must live--not having had much time with his mother.

Author's reply

Tolkien killed off most of his women very quickly. Frodo, Boromir and Faramir, Eowyn and Eomer, Theodred.... the list just goes on and on. One grief!

Larner · 11 August 2007 · Chapter 22: Boromir's Lament - A Drabble (Boromir) movie verse

Cute--very cute! Sibling rivalry! I giggled--glad I wasn't eating or drinking anything at the time.

Author's reply

Sorry - I should have put up a warning! I just love the brothers and they make writing them so easy!

shirebound · 11 August 2007 · Chapter 25: Fey Were His Thoughts - A Tribble (Boromir/The Fellowship)

A wonderful insight into Boromir's thoughts and feelings. And I love this last line: these hands catch the little one and I am redeemed

Author's reply

Dearest Boromir. I loved that scene - it just keeps going over and over in my mind and the Muse doesn't seem to want to leave it alone either. Thank you for your kind words. High praise from a favorite, esteemed author!

Mairi · 9 August 2007 · Chapter 23: Yearning - A Drabble (Legolas)

I enjoyed all of these drabbles- I like drabbles in general, but these are particularly good.

Author's reply

Very glad you liked them. I'll be adding more week by week. And thank you for commenting. I really helps as an author!

Pearl Took · 6 August 2007 · Chapter 23: Yearning - A Drabble (Legolas)

I had no idea that Legolas had not known his mother. That's what happens when one lives in the Shire. We hobbits just don't get out enough. This was so lovely and sad.

Author's reply

I don't think anyone is quite sure as to when Thanduil's wife died. It really doesn't matter that much - what matters is that the short time she had as Legolas' mother must have been sweet. I don't go with the theory that Thranduil was a harsh father. Legolas would not have turned out as 'glorious' as he did. Thanks for the review!

Pearl Took · 6 August 2007 · Chapter 22: Boromir's Lament - A Drabble (Boromir) movie verse

Vanity, vanity - thy name is Boromir! LOL! I never really noticed their hair, I'll have to look for it next time I watch the movies :-)

Author's reply

Oh I got the biggest kick out of it - Aragorn's was the worst, I think, but Boromir pulled a distinct second - especially compared to his brother's 'nice' locks!

Pearl Took · 6 August 2007 · Chapter 21: Suspicious Sam - 3 Drabbles (Sam/various)

Wonderfully clever, Agape! I like the way, even when he isn't named, we know it is Boromir being discussed.

Author's reply

After I posted it, I realized that I had not put Boromir's name anywhere in the drabbles... and hoped that my writing conveyed that thought! Thanks!

Grey Wonderer · 6 August 2007 · Chapter 22: Boromir's Lament - A Drabble (Boromir) movie verse

LOL I've seen jokes about Legolas and his hair but this is a first! I love it!

Author's reply

Thanks! Something scene in either TTT or ROTK just hit me with the thought. Faramir's hair looks very nice and full and clean - all the time! ROTFL - Glad you enjoyed it.

Grey Wonderer · 6 August 2007 · Chapter 23: Yearning - A Drabble (Legolas)

Something else I haven't thought of before, but living such long lives must have meant that if you lost someone dear to you the pain was with you far longer. The gift of being immortal might not have always been a gift.

Author's reply

I belive, GW, that the gift is really the one given Men - that of death. Long-suffering is what, I believe, finally drove the Elves out of Middle-earth and to Valinor. Hopefully, reunions were joy-filled there!

Grey Wonderer · 6 August 2007 · Chapter 21: Suspicious Sam - 3 Drabbles (Sam/various)

This is interesting because I do think that both Sam and Boromir shared a love of their homes that went beyond what others might feel. I think that must have given them some common ground if they realized it. Lovely. This always seem to point something out to me that I had missed.

Author's reply

Yes - except for the worry that Sam had for his 'master,' they might have been great friends. It's so odd to think that Sam's love of home made him mayor for so many years. Bless him!

Edlyn · 3 August 2007 · Chapter 16: No Money for Extras - A Drabble (young Sam)

Oh, this was wonderful! I'm getting ready to enter the county fair here. No pumpkins as I don't have a garden to grow them in but I feel an awful lot about my entires as Sam is about his!

Author's reply

It is funny, though. It seems to me that we each have some 'special' gift and we ALL know that the Gaffers' gift was growing potatoes. Sam knew he couldn't (nor do I think he wanted to) compete with his Da. So he found something else! Good luck at the fair!!!

Edlyn · 3 August 2007 · Chapter 12: On The Stairs of Moria - A Double Drable (movie verse) (Boromir on the steps in Moria)

Oh, I like this one very much. I've always adored Boromir and I love it best when he is doing something herois or chivalrous. Hugs! Edlyn

Author's reply

Isn't Boromir just about the very best!!!! Glad you like this little scene. I couldn't pass it up. He is so splendid! Hugs right back at ya!

cookiefleck · 2 August 2007 · Chapter 18: Taters - A Quadrabble (Sam in Minas Tirith)

It's just like Sam not to want to burden the others with his problems. I like this idea, that the memory of Gollum would affect him so strongly. Would love to see a follow up to this.

Author's reply

Thank you ever so much! I cannot tell you how much your kind words mean to me. Had difficulty with this tale! I'll think about following up on this... Aragorn and Faramir are definitely left wondering... hmmmmmm

Pearl Took · 1 August 2007 · Chapter 20: Solemn Remembrance - A Double Drabble (Denethor)

I like this one a lot. How many occasions that should be solemn in time become raucous? I think it is because death is still frightening, no matter what we are assured of . . . I'm glad you've been so kind to Denethor.

Author's reply

I adore Denethor - he has the best sons! *giggles* So how could I not love their father? As for the 'festival' - it is our way to change things that are dark into light; unfortunately, the light then becomes dark again, at times, because we twist goodness.

Pearl Took · 1 August 2007 · Chapter 19: There Was A Hobbit - A Drabble (Boromir/Haldir)

"Haldir and Boromir both burst into laughter." And I joined them! LOL That is hilarious - especially as Tolkien had Frodo being named "Bingo" for a while. What a blessing he changed it!

Author's reply

I almost fell over when first I heard that Bingo was Tolkien's first choice for Frodo's name.. Very glad he changed it! As for the song - I just HAD to do it... it seemed so 'right' in the midst of that staid and regal land to have a bit of silliness intrude. Very glad you liked this. It still makes me laugh.

Pearl Took · 1 August 2007 · Chapter 18: Taters - A Quadrabble (Sam in Minas Tirith)

Oh! This is . . . well - deep. The hurts and the kindnesses. Wonderful :-)

Author's reply

My heart broke for Sam. And all those in these tales. Sometimes words or places or actions can be so forceful in bringing back thoughts - good or bad. Luckily for Sam, friends were there for him!!!

Pearl Took · 1 August 2007 · Chapter 17: Crossroads Village - A Tribble (Legolas/Aragorn)

LOL Legolas as a real estate developer! And such grandiose plans! LOL

Author's reply

Someone put up a challenge and I couldn't refuse it. Like all things, the idea caught his attention and started rolling and getting bigger and bigger and bigger... when the Muse told me he wanted to have the Army Corps of Engineers change the course of the river, I almost died laughing!!!

Pearl Took · 1 August 2007 · Chapter 16: No Money for Extras - A Drabble (young Sam)

Why not indeed! Though our Sam will be known for a good deal more some day!

Author's reply

Ah! Sam is defintiely going to be known for a lot more - though with his dear Hobbit heart, he wanted Frodo known instead. I just love Sam to pieces!

Allee · 1 August 2007 · Chapter 20: Solemn Remembrance - A Double Drabble (Denethor)

Denethor witnesses a scene that is in many ways reminiscent of our own culture--days of solemnity turned into raucous revelry. Ah, human nature. Well done, Agape!

Author's reply

Thanks, Allee. Very grateful for the 'well done!'

Allee · 1 August 2007 · Chapter 19: There Was A Hobbit - A Drabble (Boromir/Haldir)

Definitely not what I was expecting! Good for you--I needed something to perk me up, and this drabble did the trick.

Author's reply

I laugh every time I think of this, Allee - glad it perked you up too!

Amy · 1 August 2007 · Chapter 18: Taters - A Quadrabble (Sam in Minas Tirith)

I love the way that Estel is right there when Arwen cries out for him. Strange how a memory like that can set someone off. Sam doesn't have much chance of hiding the truth for long with Faramir and Aragorn on the trail. Thanks for sharing!

Author's reply

Amy! Sam is lost - Aragorn and Faramir will both continue to 'hound' the little guy till they can figure out what's up. In the time after the battle of the Black Gate, things must have been chaotic... no time to really pay attention to each other; just try to get the job done. But I think Aragorn now realizes that a certain 'healing' job is needed for a certain gardener/ringbearer/friend.... As for Estel - Yup - I expect his senses to be always 'honed' on his love!

Larner · 31 July 2007 · Chapter 20: Solemn Remembrance - A Double Drabble (Denethor)

Yes, so many died in the long fight against the Enemy.

Author's reply

I'm hoping to put together a little listing of all those (especially in the Battle of the Pelennor) of those who died. Wish me luck!
