Ok, end of fluff. Hehehehehe Good, solid angst curtesy of shirebound :) :)

Author's reply

It's surely not the *end* of fluff... just an intermission! :D

cpsings4him · 5 June 2006 · Chapter 3: Taking Charge

Just finding this and was so excited to do so! Wonderful storytelling as usual. I'm so looking forward to the comfort that I know is coming! :D More, more, more!

Author's reply

Thank you, CP! Yes, comfort = good. :D

grumpy · 5 June 2006 · Chapter 3: Taking Charge

Por Estel and Frodo, but at least they are both still breathing and there is a healer there. Glad that Hamfast stuck up for the big folk. I got the largest laugh out of Gilly asking Bilbo if he had a clean handkerchief.

Author's reply

I love the way the Gaffer stands up for the Bagginses -- and their guests -- just as he does at the beginning of FOTR (book). And yes, Bilbo and his handkerchiefs! I'll bet he keeps his pockets stuffed full of them. :D

Linda Hoyland · 5 June 2006 · Chapter 3: Taking Charge

I'm glad our heroes don't seem to be too badly injured. It is sad the Rangers are so mistrusted.I hope you enjoy your trip and will eagerly await more when you return.

Author's reply

The Shire- and Bree-folk certainly do seem to have a mistrust of these wild-looking Rangers, but they truly don't understand what the Rangers are doing for them. I'll dive back into the story as soon as I return. :D

Queen Galadriel · 4 June 2006 · Chapter 3: Taking Charge

Yea! I got to stick around long enough to see one more chapter! I'm out of here next Saturday at the crack of dawn (*groan* too early!) and I don't like leaving them when they're hurt, but I know as long as they're in your hands they'll be all right in the end. :) I love Gilly! God bless, Galadriel P.S. You've got Hamson instead of Halfred here: “Shhh, now,” Hamson said, stroking Sam’s curls.

Author's reply

Thank you for spotting 'Hamson'! I've fixed it. And I don't like leaving them either, but RL calls sometime. The story will continue as soon as possible. :D

Frodo Baggins · 4 June 2006 · Chapter 1: Welcome Guests

Oh, delightful!! I regret that I won't be reading for a while. I'll be in Iowa. But I promise to read as much as I may all this week until I have to go. I am so excited to see this up. I know it's a little late to review- I've been so busy! But hannon le for writing it. I do love this universe. :) God Bles! Namarie, Frodo Baggins

Author's reply

It's never too lat to review, Frodo! Thank you so much for letting me know you're enjoying this. :D

Elwen · 4 June 2006 · Chapter 3: Taking Charge

Both unconscious. Poor Bilbo. He's certainly going to have his hands full.

Author's reply

He certainly will! But at least, unlike "Quarantined", he has lots of helpers this time.

SlightlyTookish · 4 June 2006 · Chapter 3: Taking Charge

Gilly is si efficient! Too bad Aragorn doesn't have any broken bones (*cough* did I just say that? :D) because I'd love to see a hobbit have to set a big person's bone. I imagine it would take a lot of muscle! *sits back and waits for the comfort* :D

Author's reply

I just couldn't bear any more broken bones so soon after Halbarad's broken ankle in "Force of Nature". Not that we'd want any, of course. *cough* But that's a great idea you have there about a hobbit having to set a Big Person's bone -- maybe *you* can write something about that! Comfort... my favorite part! :D

harrowcat · 4 June 2006 · Chapter 3: Taking Charge

Enjoy the trip Shirebound and come back brimming with ideas. Am loving this...but then I haven't found a single one of your tales that I haven't loved! Bilbo's clean hanky! *g*

Author's reply

Thank you so much, Harrowcat! I'm looking forward to my trip, and also to getting back to this story when I return. Ah yes, Bilbo will never again be without a pocket full of handkerchiefs, will he? :D

Amy · 4 June 2006 · Chapter 3: Taking Charge

Both Aragorn and Frodo injured, hooray! I mean, I'm really looking forward to their waking up and being grumpy patients and talking and all. Gosh, this is great! (poor things!)

Author's reply

Yes, hooray! I mean, poor things! Thanks, Amy! I'm looking forward to them waking up, as well. :D

Antane · 4 June 2006 · Chapter 3: Taking Charge

First you end the last chapter with a great cliff-hanger, and now this is almost as bad, you've hurt my beloved Frodo and now you say it may be a few *weeks*??!! until we know whether he's all right? Well, I suppose this is sweet revenge (indirectly) for all the times I've gleefully left people hanging in my epic. I am enjoying this though anyway. Have fun on your trip! Namarie, God bless, Antane

Author's reply

At least I left everyone in the care of a good healer before I planned my trip! Thank you for your kind words; I'm very happy you're enjoying this story so much.

Andrea · 4 June 2006 · Chapter 3: Taking Charge

"Taking Charge" - an appropriate title! And I was right, Gilly has it all under control! A fine healer! I really hope there won't be any troubles with those wounds, like infections? Well, I'll have to wait... I just loved it that the Gaffer scolded the other hobbits, especially Sandyman, for blaming the Rangers for the accident. After all, Aragorn saved Frodo's life! I wish you a nice weekend trip! Until the next chapter!

Author's reply

I love the way the Gaffer stands up for the Bagginses -- and their guests -- just as he does at the beginning of FOTR (book). I think he's a very under-rated character. A very strong fellow, who had very strong and reliable children. Thank you for the good wishes! I'll update as soon as possible.

lbilover · 4 June 2006 · Chapter 3: Taking Charge

Oh, that glass- ouch! Poor Frodo, at least he was unconscious while it was removed. I love how you show the immediate effect on everyone- the villagers who suspect Aragorn, Sam's father (and oh the moment he pulls Sam into a hug), Bilbo... It will be hard to be patient and wait for more, it's such a marvelous tale :)

Author's reply

Thank you, lbilover. It's hard for me to have to wait to *write* the next part. And I do love a warm fluffy Gaffer, even if he's gruff on the outside.

Dreamflower · 4 June 2006 · Chapter 3: Taking Charge

Wonderful! Aragorn and Frodo *both* in need of lots of hobbity TLC! And now, of course, Aragorn can't go to the meeting with the Dwarves. Poor Halbarad! And he's had the bejeebers scared out of him. And how like Sandyman to try and blame the Rangers for the explosion! I'm glad the Gaffer set him straight in no uncertain terms! So you are going off and leaving us to dangle by our fingernails for a while, eh? Well, have a good time, and spend every spare second thinking up what comes next!

Author's reply

That nasssty Sandyman! Every small town has one, I guess. At least Sam was an eyewitness to what really happened, not what folks might *think* happened. Eeee, fingernail dangling! I look forward to diving into chapter 4 as soon as possible. :D

Glory Underhill · 4 June 2006 · Chapter 3: Taking Charge

Ack! Frodo's poor arm! Estel's poor head! Sam's poor heart! Bilbo's poor nerves! Glory's poor fingernails bitten right down to the quick, and you're going on vacation? *faints dramatically*

Author's reply

I couldn't possibly go on my trip until the healer had everyone under her eagle eye. *fans Glory and sends Gilly over to check on her*

Armariel · 4 June 2006 · Chapter 3: Taking Charge

a few weeks??? OOOOOOWWWWWWWW!!!! but still, we all want you to enjoy your trip:D xoxxo Armariel~~~{~@

Author's reply

Thank you, I know I will enjoy it! But regretfully, the only time I have now to write is on the weekends. *hugs*

SurgicalSteel · 4 June 2006 · Chapter 3: Taking Charge

*bounce* Oh, my. So many things to enjoy here. Your healer, Gilly, seems to be doing a good job of assessing injuries, making sure there's nothing *immediately* life-threatening, applying a pressure dressing to Frodo's puncture wound, reassuring the loved ones of the injured. Like her a lot. Worried!Halbarad - oh, poor thing. Not enough that it's his friend that's injured, but it's his *chieftain* and Isildur's Heir, even if no one in the Shire other than Bilbo realizes that. Terrifying for him to see Aragorn injured on so many levels. Hamfast is so practical. Like him a lot, too. Um. Basically I just really loved this.

Author's reply

High praise from our resident surgeon! Yes, young Halbarad on his own with an injured Captain (who is much more than just any old Captain, of course). He has an interesting decision to make soon. (And I do love a secretly soft-hearted Gaffer.)

Ariel · 4 June 2006 · Chapter 3: Taking Charge

I am such a sick and twisted puppy... *cough* Loved it. Yes, indeedy. Keep up the angst. Heheheh!

Author's reply

Can't promise anything close to Ariel-angst, but I'm sure we can manage a wee bit o' hurt. We needs something to comfort, yes we does... :D

Grumpy · 3 June 2006 · Chapter 2: Market Day

I see that Halbarad has a chance to gain a few books. Poor Aragorn, done in at a market place, here I thought he would have been safe. Love it, can not wait for more.

Author's reply

Ah, but a Ranger's life is never guaranteed to be safe! Just never dull. Thanks for reading, Grumpy! :D

Armariel · 3 June 2006 · Chapter 2: Market Day

Uh oh..............oh nooooooooooo Aragorn can't be hurt...no, I won't have it........gotta go comfort him....oh yes......well, that might be fun, but...well of course, silly me, we're not gonna lose him! Let's just see what happens next! ~*~@~*@*~**\@/**~*@*~*~

Author's reply

I'll definitely schedule some time for you to comfort the poor dear! I'm sure he'll heal much faster now. :D

Glory Underhill · 2 June 2006 · Chapter 2: Market Day

OMG! I'm a nervous wreck! *bites nails* I loved the paragraph about Frodo not realizing that they were rich! Loved it all, can't wait for the next installment.

Author's reply

Thank you, Glory! And I really loved that paragraph, too. I think Bilbo would have been very perceptive about Frodo's feelings and insecurities... and strengths.

Linda Hoyland · 2 June 2006 · Chapter 2: Market Day

A very vivid descrition of how pleasant the Shire must be to live in, but just as you had lulled your readers, the catastrophe happens !I eagerly await more.

Author's reply

Thanks, Linda. Ohhhh, the Shire. How I wish we all could visit....on a day with no catastrophes! I'll update as soon as I can. :D

Elanor Silmariën · 1 June 2006 · Chapter 2: Market Day

Oh dear! Exploding ale! Ah! This doesn't sound too good! What is going to happen to them? Please write more soon, I can't stand cliff hangers like this!!! God bless, Ellie

Author's reply

I hope to get chapter 3 written this weekend, Ellie. Hang in there! And thank you for reading!

SlightlyTookish · 1 June 2006 · Chapter 2: Market Day

Oooh, a very exciting ending! Such an innocent outing and then you went and blew up the Shire! I'm expecting lots and lots of comfort now (and even Aragorn h/c, I hope?). *grin*

Author's reply

Well, not the *whole" Shire. Yes, Aragorn h/c, and lots of comfort! What fun. :D

lbilover · 31 May 2006 · Chapter 2: Market Day

Oh my goodness, what a cliffhanger!!

Author's reply

How does that happen, I wonder? Must resolve quickly...
