Author's reply
Ah, they love your hugs, Elly. Now the healing can really begin. :D

Uh oh, ranger and future King of the West with possible amnesia is not good. (although, it's never been done before to my knowledge. Cool!!! I mean, poor Aragorn.)
With your descriptions and feeling given to your tale, I can just envision a harried Sam sitting off in the corner of his master's bedroom, clutching onto a very pregnant Scamp for comfort while all the adults focus their attention on Frodo.
Poor Frodo ... I have a gut feeling you're not done with the poor lad just yet and have more in store for him, along with plenty of comfort, of course.
Can't wait for the next chapter, Shirebound!
P.S. If you haven't discovered it yet, I just posted my final chapter of 'The Gift' where all is revealed. :)
Also, another quick sidenote: Disney's Lady & the Tramp II was just released. It's entitled, Scamp's Adventures!! Scamp is a star!!!! LOL!
Author's reply
If there's one thing you can count on, it's plenty of comfort.
"Scamp's Adventure"!! So she's been off making movies, has she? That little cutie-pie.

Uh oh...That's not good. Not good at all!! Shirebound, what on Middle-Earth did you do to Aragorn!?! Poor Frodo too, but while he might be more physically hurt, Aragorn's the worst off of the two. While I know things will be fine, you've got me nervous here. Hope you add to this and soonest!!
Author's reply
I'm working on it, Tigger! And you know all will be well by the end. Thank you so much for reading.

Glad to see another chapter up! Good that Sam could stay with his Frodo and be distracted and distractor at the same time.
Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Author's reply
Thanks, Antane. Sam just *had* to be there, and this seemed the best way to accomplish it. :D

We do love our hobbits and rangers and pups so much, don't we? I'll type fast so we can get this comfort-train moving... *hugs you*

Oh, marvelous! Cunning plot twist! Aragorn lost his memory?! What would he be like without the weight of all that heritage and destiny on him?
Oh, I do hope that he regains his memory, but not too soon, bless his heart!
Meanwhile, I look forward to his being pampered/fed/coddled by hobbits!

Summer's here! Oh boy! I can do lots of reading now ^^
Anyways, I do love your hobbits. So... hobbitish ^^ And figures that Sandyman would say something like that (in the last chapter). Oh, but it's so good that Aragorn was there and warned for the people to run. And he probably saved Sam's and Frodo's lives. Awww, I love Aragorn! ^^
But dang, hope both of them are ok. Frodo does seem he'll be fine- hobbits are made out of tough stuff after all- but what Aragorn said concerned me. Something weird happened... or he decided to promote Halbarad to captain.
Knowing you, the latter is not the case :P
Anyways, cannot wait to read more! ^^
Author's reply
Yay for summer! Yay for hobbits!
LOL, you're right -- that was *not* an impulsive promotion! *grins*

I am sooo enjoying this. At the moment I'm more worried about Estel than Frodo, though. He's been unconscious an awfuly long time.

A sudden worried yip from a basket by the hearth distracted her for a moment.
Aw, that's so cute! Scamp is a Baggins pup indeed, completely forgetting about her own condition, when she finds out that her master is hurt. Typical of Bagginses ;-)
I'm glad that Frodo was at least awake for some time, but I'm really worried about what Gilly said of infection. On the other hand, this is a shirebound story! You will take good care of him, won't you?
And Aragorn calling Halbarad captain? Oh my! He's really in need of healing.
Author's reply
Thank you for trusting me! I promise everyone (and every pup) will be all right by the end. I couldn't bear it to be otherwise!
Awww, Scamp is a true Baggins indeed. Frodo couldn't have a more loyal pup at his side. Or more loyal friends.

Oh, boy! I was so hoping I would find chapter 4 of this! And, a wonderful chapter of beginning comfort it is. :-) Poor Frodo and Aragorn - I know they'll require LOTS of TLC...right? Right?? Gives it to us!!!!!!! Give us the comfort!!!
Hehehe!
Thanks for this. It brightened my Saturday. :-)

Uh-oh.
Amnesia? Poor Halbarad! If Estel doesn't remember the last few years...
I really love your Gilly--what a wonderful healer she is, alert and observant not only of the patient, but of his loved ones as well. She knows that taking care of Scamp will help distract poor Sam from his young master's plight.
I also love the way Sam's family is taking all this, very level-headed, and well, down-to-earth. Can't wait to see what happens next!
Author's reply
Thanks, Dreamflower! I haven't *quite* worked out all the details of the story yet, but I think Halbarad is going to learn quite a bit by the end of it.
Awww, I like thinking of Sam and Scamp as two of Frodo's 'loved ones'. *grins*

Uh oh! Is Estel feeling he's going to die? Or is he seeing a bit of the future? An interesting twist you've got going now :)

Neither, although I like your ideas! Aragorn's just become a bit confused about who is the current captain of the Rangers. Let's see how young Halbarad deals with this...

Oh, this was lovely. The healer's still doing top-notch work taking care of young Frodo.
I can almost see Halbarad's face at the end when Aragorn calls him 'Captain.' Oh, boy.
Looking forward to the next installment!
Author's reply
Thanks, SS! I seem to be incapable of hurting Frodo *too* much, so any healer's skills won't be stretched farther than I can write them. I leave the complicated medical stuff to certain surgeons I could name...
Poor Halbarad! This is a lot for a young Ranger to deal with all at once.

Well that was quicker than I anticipated so I have a happy grin for that but if you think that cliffies should teach me patience I fear you sadly mistake me. They just build up my frustration! Now I know how Halbarad feels about wanting Aragorn to wake up! *g* *grrrrrr*!
Author's reply
Gosh, I'll just have to write more cliffies so you can learn patience and serenity and... just kidding! Although truly, I'm always amazed at the number of sneaky chapter endings that come barging into these stories.

Oh, this is a glorious addition to the tale. Between all the lovely comfort for Frodo and that marvelous scene with Halfred and Halbarad, I am quite happy.
And you left us a cliffhanger! *beams* Now you have to write more!
Author's reply
I'm so happy you're enjoying this, RSF! I do love it when Big Folk interact with and learn more about the hobbits they're protecting.
I have to write more?? Comfort and healing and all that stuff? Well... all right. *sigh*
Oh, poor Frodo and Aragorn! This is really not good! And poor Sam, thinking they were killed! I still can't see how I missed this chapter, but oh well! Are you going to post the next one soon? *bounces in anticipation*
God bless,
Ellie
Author's reply
Eeee, suspense! I'm trying to find writing time, and hope to post the next chapter... maybe over the weekend, if all goes well. Thank you for reading!
Oooh! Unconscious Aragorn! Unconscious Frodo! Can I be Gilly's assistnat? Huh? Huh? *bats eyelashes* As a birthday present, precious! :-))
How can you make us wait while you gad off enjoying yourself? Tsk!
Love this story but don't make us wait too long. Enjoy your trip.

A CUT ARM!! THAT'S IT?!!! (oops, did I say that? I hope Frodo needs some suturing--he'll need more comfort then) ;)
<<“Be very careful, Halfred,” Gilly warned. “I don’t think Frodo has any broken ribs, but better to be safe than sorry. Don’t jostle him.”>>
Foreshadowing, perhaps? :D
Poor Bilbo, he's become quite the father, hasn't he. I hope someone will be there to comfort him later when his own tears need release into another pocket handkerchief.
Sandyman! Ughh! No wonder the Gaffer does not hold a very high opinion of him. I really enjoyed your characterization of the Gaffer. I've read many stories where he constantly berates Sam and calls him undesireable names. Instead, you show him as a loving, concerned father which seems to be more in tune with the hobbit culture as a whole. I also liked how the Gaffer protected his master's heir and guests from the slander. It is easy to see where Sam learns his devotion from. I wouldn't be surprised if the Gaffer had Bell send up a hot meal to Bag End that night.
One observation: wasn't Gilly Brownlock a male hobbit healer in 'Treasures'? I enjoy her as a female healer though. She seems to be very well-respected in the community and well-spoken as well.
Poor Scamp--she'll be beside herself when she sees a hurt Frodo and Aragorn come home, along with so many people. I hope her doggy anxieties don't send her into labor! (I also hope the ponies are well cared for after pulling such a heavy load of two Rangers, plus half-a-dozen hobbits.) LOL!
Bring on the comfort! .......... after you enjoy your trip, of course. Safe travels, Shirebound.
Author's reply
Gilly WAS a male healer in "Treasures" -- which I had to change awhile back. I had thought I made up the name Gilly Brownlock, until I discovered HER name in the Baggins family tree in ROTK. So I scurried back and corrected "Treasures
to make her female. Good catch!
"I wouldn't be surprised if the Gaffer had Bell send up a hot meal to Bag End that night." Good guess! The assistance of the whole Gamgee family will be an ongoing part of this story.
Thank you for all your concern for everyone (including Scamp and the ponies!), and the good wishes for my trip. I'm looking forward to it, and also to returning to continue with this story.
*hugs*
Oh my... broken glass acting like shrapnel, sprained wrists, concussions, bleeding heads, unconsciousness... what's not to LOVE, I ask? Nothing!! This is sheer fic heaven, sheer heaven. I can't wait to see what happens next... and yes, I think they will both be very stubborn patients when they wake. Frodo will want to see Aragorn, and of course Aragorn will want to rise and check on Frodo... it's going to be a nightmare for the healers! Hee hee.
A trip? You would leave US HANGING for a MERE TRIP? Oh... wait... THAT trip!!! Well, that's okay, then. I'll drag the next chapter out of you in person. ;D
Loving this tremendously!
