Beautifully done! I love tender Aragorn as healer, chattery Pippin, wise and thoughtful Gandalf.
Aragorn is very wise.
This part made me chuckle aloud:
as I understand from a reliable source, if Frodo can get a word in edgewise

Thank you, my dear! Yeah, that was a cute part. Glad you enjoyed!

What a lovely story! This is a unique and wonderful take on Sam's birthday, one I've never seen before. Dear Pippin!
Your bodies gave all they could. As did your hearts and fear. Let them all heal.
Indeed they did. Sleep well, beloved small heroes.

Glad you enjoyed, my dear! Looking forward to reading more of Starship. So much to read after Lent, it's going to take a while to catch up.

And thank you as well, Antane. It's been a stressful last few weeks for me, losing two clients so close together, and with the well pump not working, and stresses elsewhere. It's needful to remember that in the end these are but normal things and not life-threatening.
Joy to you as you prepare for Christmas.

Beautifully written!
But what I loved most, was this:
He looked around at the others and they all nodded, though Merry-lad looked a little disappointed that he couldn’t hear about his uncle and the Rohirrim again.
*grins* Of course he wants to hear of his namesake and uncle. And I can understand him very well. It was that very chapter in the books that made Meriadoc Brandybuck one of my two favourite characters (the other one is Frodo).
Thank you :)
Author's reply
Thank *you*! If I had a whole chapter I loved, it would be a Merry one also but A Conspiracy Unmasked and those wonderful words said there. I am foremost a FrodoandSam-aholic but I do love Merry and Pippin also.

Beautifully told.
One li'l niggle--Sam might have paddled with Rosie's brothers, but not gone swimming with them.
Author's reply
Hantanyel! But yikes! How could I have forgotten that Sam didn't swim. I was trying to bring to mind his memory near the Fire when he is parched and he remembers being with her brothers and obviously didn't recall it correctly.

There was no story they liked better and no voice they loved more than to hear it from.
And that's the way it should be. :)
Author's reply
Hantanyel, my dear! I think it must have embarrassed Sam at first that he had received pride of place in Frodo's loving tribute to all his friends but then Frodo had said on the Stairs that people would want to hear more about Sam so our dear made sure people would! And I hope Sam would have gotten used to it as much as his humble self could after reading it so many times!

Can I sit in too? *grin*
And awesome of you to switch to 1st person! I've considered doing that but since I often quote descriptions and iconic passages I've just decided to use Tolkien's edition.
One niggle, though: I thought Sam couldn't swim!
Author's reply
We can sit on the floor together! :) I tried reading a bit of Two Towers in the first person and found it to be more interesting that way - and first person makes it more of a loving tribute. Larner pointed out that part about Sam also - how could I have forgotten! Will have to change that. So glad to hear from you, my dear!

Definitely a 'might have been' that we are very glad didn't happen. I, too, love that bit of the BBC recording. Well written.
One typo - The younger hobbit tried to stench it. - I imagine that you mean 'staunch'? 'stench' is a very bad smell! :)
Frodo had been skittish as a colt trying to stand for the first time when he had first come, shy among so many strangers. But he had blossomed beautifully and Bilbo knew most of the credit went to that ray of bottled sunshine that was little Samwise.
This is so joyous and full of light, Antane! What a delightful story about our enthusiastic lads.

Somehow I missed reading this one. A vivid and harrowing depiction that is all the more powerful in that it doesn't make use of gratuitous violence, for which I thank you, and I'm probably not the only one. Good job!
(A tip from an experienced fanfic writer/reader: we usually put the passages that are word for word out of the book in italics; that way, those who haven't read it will know it's quoted;))
