I sort of feel sorry for Delphie - but not very!
Author's reply
hehehe I do to, but not very. Golden really did :-) Thank you for leaving a response harrowcat!
harrowcat · 21 October 2007 · Chapter 44: Wabbit
Poor Pippin! Fwodo obviously hasn't been listening to 'Nanny 911' Sitting in on the naughty spot should be 1 minute for each of a child's age! *g* But perhaps it is longer because Frodo needs that much quiet to work his furry magic on the book.
Author's reply
Exactly, that's why he gave the lad more books to look at and something to cuddle ;-) Thank you harrowcat!
Dreamflower · 20 October 2007 · Chapter 45: Pippin and the Empty Bottle
Oh, an excellent answer to the challenge! In some ways it reminds me of my story "The Dare" in that it is dealing with drinking and adolescent peer pressure--but by having it be females instead of males, and having Pippin's sister in the mix, you changed the whole dynamic of it! It would have been a lot harder for Pippin to turn away from a dare from the lasses--first of all, his innate politeness would make him reluctant to argue too forcefully, and second of all, he'd feel even more embarrassed to fail to take the dare from a lass. And having his sister there would, of course, goad him even more. Then there is the matter of the peer pressure on Pervinca, who finds herself reluctantly betraying her younger brother, whom she knows deep inside that she should be protecting instead. You portrayed her ambivalent feelings and mixed motives very well indeed! And the sexual nature of Delphinium's motives also bring something else into it. Of course, we often hear of boys taking advantage of girls--but as the mother of a son, I can say with some sad experience, a predatory girl can be just as bad for a boy! A very interesting story! Good job!
Author's reply
Thank you so much for this response Dreamflower :-) The other story ("Wabbit") was the one getting the responses and I was just about to take this one off the site feeling that I'd finally written my failure. I've had no experience with predatory girls with my son, but both of my kids new girls like this and have told me about them, so I know they are out there. I also do know what it's like to move somewhere where you are in a prominent position and wondering how you'll ever find any friends. Again, thank you so much :-)
Dreamflower · 20 October 2007 · Chapter 44: Wabbit
Very cute! *poof*blows fluff out of eyes* I could just see Pip in the corner, having his "punishment", LOL! Frodo's too soft-hearted by half! *chuckle*
Author's reply
My thought was you'd never get a wee child to sit in a corner for an hour without their having something to do ;-) Thank you Dreamflower :-)
Tigger · 20 October 2007 · Chapter 44: Wabbit
But whhhhhy, would you want to scribble out a Waaaaaaabbit? I saw the Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd version of The Barber of Seville yesterday and it was screaming to be let out in this review. ;o) Poor Pippin and the wisdom of a little one. I got a very warm bum many moons ago for doing something very much like this to a book. He is right though. Wabbits don't wear clothes. So perfectly fluffy for a cool October night. Thanks Pearl!!
Author's reply
Thank you Tigger :-) One should not scribble in books. Not even to rid the world of a wabbit in clothes ;-)
shirebound · 20 October 2007 · Chapter 44: Wabbit
Awwww. Soft wabbit fur. *wibbles*
Author's reply
Hehehe and a stuffed puppy to hug, what more could the lad ask for?
Golden · 12 October 2007 · Chapter 17: "Elements"
Very poetic and excellent little story! And also here I spied a wee bit Pippin. *grin*
Author's reply
Thank you again, Golden! Yes, the wee little pest does keep poking into my stories :-)
Golden · 12 October 2007 · Chapter 5: "The Remains of Power"
*g* Alright, it IS a good story, nicely written AND you do have a wee bit Pip inside..I mean who else did look in the Palantir. Hehe.
Author's reply
Hehehe Thank you Golden :-) Yes, Pippin snuck in a wee bit.
Larner · 12 October 2007 · Chapter 43: Dirty Jobs
Ah, how marvelous! I love our Pippin, and his father!
Author's reply
Thank you Larner, I love them too! That's probably why I write about them so much :-)
Larner · 12 October 2007 · Chapter 42: Took Broth
Fascinating! And lovely turn of the old adage! Will have to try that one day.
Author's reply
Hi Larner! :-) It really is rather tasty!
Agape4Gondor · 11 October 2007 · Chapter 2: "A Tale To Tell"
That was beautifully written and very touching. I lived the remembrances! So many there and all kind of lost in their own moment and I loved Pip.....
Andrea · 11 October 2007 · Chapter 43: Dirty Jobs
Once again, wonderful story, Pearl! I had to chuckle when I read about Paladin getting breathless while just listening to Pippin talking ;-) I never heard of that particular adage before, but it proved to be true! And Paladin is the best father one could wish for!
Author's reply
Hi Andrea :-) Kids can do that to you - well, and some adults I know as well LOL! I had never heard that adage either, but it's a rather accurate one I think. I'm glad you like Paladin :-)
Andrea · 11 October 2007 · Chapter 42: Took Broth
LOL!!! Great story, Pearl! I actually read in the middle part of your story "The Cook and Thain", but when I tried to find it again it was gone! It must have been my imagination ;-) I can very well imagine Sam's horror when he learned about the ingredients of Took Broth. On the other hand I know of similar creations that tasted just great! Thank you, Pearl! This story was really funny. And to use this nice expression again- MEWD!!!
Author's reply
Hi Andrea! I think that is someone else's story . . . LOL! Hehehe I know how I felt at that Scout thing when I saw all the cans getting emptied into one of two large soup pots! Thank you so much for the MEWD :-)
Agape4Gondor · 11 October 2007 · Chapter 1: "Confession"
Well, I'm glad it ended the way it did. You gave me a small scare there! But dreams can be horrigying and glimpses into things that SHOULD NOT be. Glad Merry was able to accept Pip's reason for the note.... Nice job.
Author's reply
I'm sorry I didn't respond sooner to this agape! *embarrassed blushing" I was also glad it ended as it did when my muse presented me with it :-) Thank you so much for reading and responding :-)
Tigger · 11 October 2007 · Chapter 43: Dirty Jobs
I love watching "Dirty Jobs" too, but never did the saying about the nastiest jobs are always well paid by those who don't want to do them have as much of an impact as when Mike went down to New Orleans to work w/the recovery crews tearing down the condemned houses. Mike was walking out towards an enviromental hazard container w/a casserole bowl filled w/water and in it, all you could see was mosquito larve. One of the other guys on the team as he walked past Mike glanced inside the bowl and said, "There goes another bowl of malaria out of a house." I alwasys had the greatest of respect for the men and women who are working down there trying do what they can and often encountering things we'd never even dreamed off in our worst nightmares. It skyrocketed by the factor of 100 after seeing that episode though. This was such a wonderful and sweet little story. Pippin w/more than his heart in the right place and then finding out that he wouldn't get scolded for getting dirty. That it was just simply what would end up happening as he did whatever job for that day... Yes, I can see how a Tween would see that as fun. :oD I so loved how he kept the secret going for so long. W/the cunning sweetie hiding his grubby gear in the lane, then heading straight for the pond once home and then the bathing rooms...It really was brillant and nobody knew a thing. Until people started, as they will do, to talk and Paladin got word of Pippin's doings for the summer. And all for just a because I love you Mom present...That was the last straw. After that, I succumbed to the temptation and disappeared into the pile of fluffy goodness that had been calling to me. :oD What a wonderfully sweet and lovely little story this is. Thanks Pearl!! :o)
Author's reply
Thank you so much Tigger for such a lovely response! "Dirty Jobs" is a wonderful show if only for helping the rest of us to appreciate those hard working folks better. I'm glad you eventually succumbed ;-) You are most welcome!
harrowcat · 10 October 2007 · Chapter 43: Dirty Jobs
Good for Pip! And I loved this bit... Paladin was smiling, though feeling breathless as he often did with his youngest. It often seemed his lad did not need to breathe like most hobbits. You catch his voice just beautifully!
Author's reply
Thank you harrowcat for the wonderful compliment :-)
harrowcat · 10 October 2007 · Chapter 42: Took Broth
Beautifully done Pearl. I have, indeed, tasted similar creative collaborations. Mostly tasty!
Author's reply
Thank you harrowcat :-) Glad you enjoyed both my story and your own soup experience!
Lindelea · 10 October 2007 · Chapter 43: Dirty Jobs
What a delightful story! I love Pippin's work ethic, his cleverness, the neighbours' concern, and Paladin's understanding. My goodness, if my Paladin had only known this secret that Pippin learned in this story, why, he'd never have become so sour and liverish as Thain (in my Muse's world, that is).
Author's reply
Thank you Lin :-) I wish your Paladin had learned it too. Maybe if you ever write your other thread of stories . . .
Lindelea · 10 October 2007 · Chapter 42: Took Broth
LOL! Very clever! Reminds me of my mum's stock pot. She kept a couple of containers in the freezer, and in one went all the vegetable cooking water, leftover broth, and the like, and in the other went all the leftover scraps of meat and vegetables, and at the end of the week she'd throw it all together in a pot and simmer it into soup. It was never quite the same, week to week, and always delicious.
Author's reply
That sounds wonderful, and such a neat memory :-) We're finally having fall weather and soup sounds sooooo good right now! Thank you Lin!
Hai Took · 3 October 2007 · Chapter 41: Chasing Blackie
lol That was so cute! Thank you for the laugh it was more than welcome after a long day! An imaginary kitten? That would certainly get you into a lot of scraps! It was a lovely story!
Author's reply
Thank you so very much Hai! I'm glad I could brighten your day :-)
PIppinfan1988 · 2 October 2007 · Chapter 41: Chasing Blackie
This was so sweet!!! Pippin is so adorably cute -- chasing after his imaginary kitten and thinking his loving mum could be so daft. Is this the same Blackie that Merry gave Pippin in an earlier story? If you ask me, dear friend, I can't see where you're in a funk of sorts -- you're still going strong in my humble opinion. :-) Very well done! PF
Author's reply
Thank you Pippinfan :-) And it is indeed the same Blackie, you get extra points! *applause* Thank you, but prior to this I hadn't been able to write for nearly 3 weeks. I'm so relieved my dry spell seems to be over :-)
harrowcat · 2 October 2007 · Chapter 41: Chasing Blackie
Poor Eglantine! But he really is an endearing imp!
Author's reply
I've noticed mother's seem to love their little trouble makers even though the dears prematurely age them :-D Thank you so much harrowcat!
Dreamflower · 2 October 2007 · Chapter 41: Chasing Blackie
That was adorable. Yep, only Pippin could trip over an imaginary kitten, and run face first into a tree chasing it! Perhaps he'd be in less trouble if he had a real one... ...or perhaps not! 8-)
Author's reply
I don't think a real one would be quite as mad, but then again I should know better owning three cats myself :-) So glad you liked it Dreamflower!
Larner · 2 October 2007 · Chapter 41: Chasing Blackie
Ah, bless children and their imaginary friends, brothers, and pets! Blackie has quite the adventurous bent, and has led poor Pippin into so many scrapes in the space of such a short time! Heh!
Author's reply
Hehehe, yes, he does! Such a naughty wee kitten, or sort of a kitten. Thank you Larner :-)
