What an intriguing way to introduce the idea of meteorites to Middle Earth...you've done a marvelous job of explaining how people back then would view that sort of thing - similar to the way they see Gandalf's fireworks as a form of magic. What's that old quote..."one man's science is another man's sorcery" or something to that effect. I can't recall the exact quote just now. Good old Pippin...I don't think I've ever seen any child - hobbit or human - that loves to splash like he does. Must be a Tookish trait, I imagine. Well done, as always!

It's adorably sweet, precious, and cute like most of your hobbity stories, and a welcome change from high drama. One thing though, dearest- in your introduction, you should "publicly" thank your mom, not "publically". *hugs you tightly* thanks for the review of the Portrait, too.

Oh my goodness what a great chapter! I think this is my favorite so far! Toddler Pip is just too cute! Hehe - baby baths and baby kisses! Two of my favorite things! So sweet! And I love seeing Frodo take care of him. Those two are so adorable together. Oh - and the hobbits taking care of Aragorn's boo-boo - wonderful! The idea of the sand-glass (what was it called again?) is a fantastic element to add to the story. I always found that concept fascinating - did you ever see "Sweet Home Alabama"? It has this element in it too. Cute movie. Anyway, I loved this chapter and can't wait to see what happens next. Blessings, cp P.S. Your sweet thank you to your beta-mom had me all teared up. How precious. :)

Another cute chapter. *gets out the whip and chair* Have to keep your little Pip away from heart. He's trying to usurp Frodo's place!

girlofring · 2 October 2004 · Chapter 6: Hobbity Healing

your stories are always so delightful. Pippin giving a "mummy" goodbye hurt kiss. That reminds me of my littlest one about a splinter in his foot (oh, oh, another story!) just kiss it and it will go away, he would tell me, instead of me taking a tweezers to it to get it out. Of course I would kiss it at the same time. how adorable!!!!!!

Lily the Hobbit · 2 October 2004 · Chapter 6: Hobbity Healing

A wonderful chapter! I especially enjoyed Pippin's comment. "Kiss it." *grins*

Ahhhhhh! I can't stand the suspense! What's in the woods? And before I tear my hair out, I have to say that imagining Scamp in a sweater was so cute that I now have the urge to dress my cat, Arwen up too.

Can't wait to hear more from you!

LaughingBrook · 23 September 2004 · Chapter 5: Nienna's Tears

Oh, my! What's happenning?! I love the ducklings. I've always wanted a baby bird!

Auntiemeesh · 22 September 2004 · Chapter 5: Nienna's Tears

I love this chapter. “The years tend to pass like water flowing in a river, Sam,” the Ranger said softly. What a lovely way to show the elvish influence in Aragorn's upbringing. “Ducks say ‘cheep cheep cheep’,” Pippin informed the Ranger, snuggling into the warm lap, “and Scamp says ‘woof’.” Ah, the randomness of toddlers. Their conversation flows logically from what is going on in their own heads, but doesn't always make much sense in the outside world. I'm very curious to see what the noise was (a meteor perhaps?).

grumpy · 22 September 2004 · Chapter 5: Nienna's Tears

cake, cake, let's eat cake, stuff that ranger full. I think, I have had to much suger myself. anyway loved the story of Nienna's tears. And good thing they did not get hit by whatever fell down.

LinweP · 22 September 2004 · Chapter 5: Nienna's Tears

How absolutely appropriate to read the next installment of your sweet story about Estel's birthday party on Bilbo and Frodo's birthday. What a treat! Thank you and I commend you on your timing. LinweP

Grey Wonderer · 21 September 2004 · Chapter 5: Nienna's Tears

That is a very bad place to leave us, isn't it? Feed us cake, dress up the animals, tell us a lovely story and then leave us with a howling pup and a noise in the woods? Wait, come back and finish this! LOL (Huge hint that I can't wait for more.) Loved Pip and the ducks!

Parker · 21 September 2004 · Chapter 5: Nienna's Tears

Janet, Another lovely chapter! ::squee:: Pip's antics just get cuter and cuter. I had to laugh at his dressing Scamp--it reminded me so much of a young friend of mine dressing up *my* pup (not Hollyn--this was 28 years ago). Unlike Scamp, Skeeter was *not* a happy camper. The story of Nienna's tears really sounds as though it could be Tolkien. I like that explanation much better than the scientific one. I also love that you're showing such a gentle side of Estel. He truly strikes me as a gentle man (and a gentleman) who will become a warrior when necessary, but the heart and soul of him is gentle. (not marvellously put, unfortunately). Eagerly awaiting the next chapter, when hopefully we'll find out what Scamp was howling about.

EllyBaggins · 21 September 2004 · Chapter 5: Nienna's Tears

oooooooh, it is a meteorite? can't wait to see what happens next! and i loved aragorn helping pippin into the jacket, you really do write the most perfect scenes! well done!

fadagaski · 21 September 2004 · Chapter 5: Nienna's Tears

Mwahaha! That will teach Aragorn to jinx himself. I love how you incorporated an animal's natural ability to sense ... disturbances. *loves Pippin*

Pearl Took · 21 September 2004 · Chapter 5: Nienna's Tears

I really liked this, the ducklings, Scamp in a sweater and hat, the beauty of a meteor shower, and Aragorn having such a special birthday. And thank you so much for the birthday wishes, my friend and mentor :-)

RogerGamgee · 21 September 2004 · Chapter 5: Nienna's Tears

What a lovely chapter this is...fluff and all. I broke up laughing after Pippin dressed up the puppy in clothes. How many of us adults have done the same thing to our pets at one time or another? I found the description of meteor showers intriguing...as well as Bilbo's tale of 'metal falling from the sky'. It seems reasonable that someone at some point would have seen (either at the time or after the fact) an actual meteorite impact on the earth. Ok, so we have a bit of angst thrown in here for good measure, I see...you write such great cliffhangers. Keep up the great work, and I look forward to seeing the next chapter!

melilot hill · 21 September 2004 · Chapter 5: Nienna's Tears

How I would love to see a picture of little Pippin dressing Scamp up in those clothes :)

SlightlyTookish · 21 September 2004 · Chapter 5: Nienna's Tears

Pippin and the ducklings - I wish he could keep one, too! I loved this part: "Towels and soap sat next to the other, which Pippin had eyed suspiciously throughout supper. Tub meant bath, and bath meant bed -- and after a long nap in the warm sun after lunch, he wasn’t ready for bed just yet." That is SO realistically childlike! And Aragorn constantly being stuffed with food is just terrific. Thank you - I needed something cheerful and cuddly to read today!

Miss Aranel · 21 September 2004 · Chapter 2: Getting Acquainted

How nice of Sam to plant clover esp. for Aragorn's horse! That seems like something he would do, even as a young boy. Ha! Poor Frodo having to deal with a toddler and a puppy at night...hopefully he'll figure out a way to get a little more rest sooner or later. :-)

Miss Aranel · 21 September 2004 · Chapter 1: Love at First Sight

How sweet! I haven't read any of the other stories, but both Scamp and Little Pip are adorable! I esp. liked the bit where Frodo warned the puppy that Pippin might bite her back if she did anything unwise!

esamen · 21 September 2004 · Chapter 5: Nienna's Tears

“Not in this case,” Bilbo insisted. “Among Men, it is the guest of honor who receives gifts, as I recall. Therefore, we are all equally scandalous and without manners.” I have been thinking a lot about Bilbo lately. I think that a lot of his charm comes from the contrasts in his character . . . his British kind of sensibilities about manners and protocol, juxtaposed with his "Tookish" love of adventure and disregard for the establishment . . . and here we have Frodo coming along with his own contrasts in his own character . . . bookish but also outdoorsy. Have fun! Now, when does the h/ccc start? I'm glued to the monitor, waiting!

Breon Briarwood · 21 September 2004 · Chapter 5: Nienna's Tears

Oooo, how could you?! All this cute and comfortable and then....... I like the story about Nienna's tears, I believe it would fit with Tolkien's work quite well as an explaination for the showers. Now, I can wait for more. *wonders what's out there*

Lily the Hobbit · 21 September 2004 · Chapter 5: Nienna's Tears

That's evil!!! Another cliffhanger!! What a wonderful story you have woven with Nienna's tears. And Aragorn's speaking of hope was very in character. Beautiful chapter!
