Ack! You keep doing this cliff hanger thingy on me! At least the manner of endings on your chapters aren't as unpredictable as the story! ;-) //He knew he would never win any contests with his cooking, but he didn’t really think anyone would be complaining---too much.// Hee hee! That made me laugh. It would appear that the momentary speechlessness of the twins will indeed be momentary. I wonder, what happened to the rabbit Legolas shot? Did somebody pick that up or anything? I can't remember. It would make a slightly ironic supper. ;-) Glorfindel to the rescue! It wouldn't do to have Thranduil keeling over from muscle stiffness, now would it? //"Legolas and I will have to compare notes, when he recovers."// lol. That was a good one too. Interesting procedure with the broken bones. Is that really the way they do it? I wouldn't know. I stray away from writing about treatments because I'd be completely wrong 120% of the time. (Yes, I've come near to failing Algebra...I only haven't because it's virtually impossible to fail a subject when you're homeschooled!) It interests me to read about how these kind of remedial things are done. Poor Thranduil. I don't have too much inside knowledge when it comes to paternal feelings ;-), but I imagine it must be really hard. I really wouldn't know though, because I enjoy it when Legolas is hurt. (Not to mention that I'm a girl!) ;-) Once again, that's not a particularly nice way to end the chapter. *pouts* *quits pouting when she realizes that no one is paying attention* *sigh*
Goodness, who knew that my talent for rambling would come in handy someday? I only have a few friends who can really actually tolerate me, and they're really good friends because they ramble too. (Except when it comes to guys...most of the ones I know don't ramble too much, but I still manage to fall for a couple of them!) ;-) *sighs and contemplates the difficulties of adolescence*
More please!
Author's reply
I think cliffhangers are fun. Besides, they keep the readers wanting more---hopefully.
I have no idea if Glorfindel really knows how to cook, but I wanted to add another dimension to his character, so I thought that his lack of cooking skills would do that and add a bit of humor at the same time.
In my own mind, when I thought of it later, I pictured Mordraug taking it off and having it for dinner. Why waste a perfectly good rabbit that someone else has already killed for you?
When I wrote this chapter, I was actually afraid everyone would get bored reading it. But, then I thought that I had gone into such detail about how Legolas had gotten into that condition, I needed to spend some time showing how h he was tended to. Just saying "Elrond splinted his broken bones," seemed a bit of a cop-out. I also thought that if the readers did get bored, they would at least learn how to start a campfire and splint bones in the extremities. Yes, that is the way both are done. Now, aren't you doubly glad you're reading this story?
Isn't it sad that when we love someone in fiction, we want to hurt them? I think it has to do with the strong emotions involved. The character becomes the center of attention with everyone around giving so much love and concern to him/her. Revenge is usually the only reason to hurt a villain, and while that is satisfying, it doesn't really bring out the caregiver feelings in us.
You will always get more until you see the word ~End~.

Yes, they tended to Legolas's broken bones. I didn't want to forget about that or just skip over it. I felt it was important to show how it was done.
Things in Rivendell, once they get there, won't go quite as smoothly as you are probably hoping it will. I can say no more. :o)

Wow! I really like that paragraph where Thranduil is hoping, but not wanting to hope, and all that. But I think somebody better examine Aragorn for Bi-polar or something; he's got quite the mood swings! ;-) JK. Again, good job with everyone's emotions. *sigh* Poor...Elrond! (Whoa! Big surprise there!) He must feel kinda bad...that would have been a hard speech to make! And then you surprised me (good job; even though surprising *me* isn't all *that* hard...;-)) and Aragorn notices a change! I must admit, I was kind of hoping for the same thing that Aragorn is hoping, but in the back of my mind there was this little voice saying, "You idiot, it's not going to be *that* easy..." *shakes her head dolefully* Nope. But Aragorn keeps hopin'... Y' know, this could be my overactive imagination again, but the way you said, //Besides, Mordraug was now dead and could never hurt anyone again.// kinda sent chills up my spine, and I started to wonder if he was really dead. I mean, I *thought* he was, but how are we helpless readers supposed to know? And that's a *nasssssty* cliff hanger...*pouts* Yeah, um, overall, everybody's emotions; especially Thranduil's, Aragorn's, and Elrond's, are very well done. Keep it up!
Yes, I did realize that it would be almost cruel for Legolas to see his mother (oh, my POOR x xyz baby!) (Algebra kicking in...*shudders*), and who knows! Maybe if he'd seen his mother he would have stayed! *collective gasp* ;-)
Yeah, I had hoped that after Legolas got a few thousand sites dedicated to him in like, the first two weeks of the release of FotR, that PJ would have given him a bigger part...*sigh*
Really? I'm easy to talk to? Why is that? (I tend to just ramble on and on...and on...and I don't notice when everybody has completely stopped listening...) *ramles on far beyond the author's point of interest*
Keep writing!
Author's reply
Thank you for all the compliments on the various aspects of this chapter. I try hard to make every character and every event interesting for my readers. I'm glad you think I do a good job.
I did send Aragorn's emotions on a bit of a roller coaster, but then all of the guys were put through it.
Nope, things won't be easy for our dear Greenleaf. Not easy at all.
Mordraug not really dead? That's a logical idea, since no one actually saw his body. I will tell you that, yes, he really is dead. But then, this IS a fantasy story, so who says he can't still cause trouble? We shall see. :o)
I like ramblers. I can learn a lot about what a reader thinks that way.

i had actually read this yesterday but something got messed up and it wouldn't let me post my review!!!! argh!!!! it wouldn't let me copy it either!!!!!!
well, anyways, aside from that!!!!
oooo, oh, that hurts!!!!! "He firmly believed...He didn't know then how wrong that thought would prove to be." argh, rite after a nice reasurring chapter that Legolas is going to be ok, you have throw in (and in the last sentence too!!!) a nice note that reasurres everyone that this recovery isn't going to be a nice, short, easy one!!!!!!! oh, poor Legolas, now he's going to be tortured even more!!!!!
ah! leaving it at chapter 26!!!! i would have died with him if you left it there!!!!! on such a cliffie too!!! Legolas dying...*shudder*...staying dead...*double shudder* at least he's an elf, so we don't have to worry about mean authors writing about him withering away from old age!! (in massivly cruel deatil, i might add!) instead we have authors wrting about him withering away from sea longing and from watching all his mortal friends die!!! EVEN BETTER!!!!! NOT!!!!!! the thought of Legolas dying in Valinor is even worse!!! once i found out that mortals would stil die there i was crushed!!!! i thought Legolas would be fine in Valinor because Gimli went with him, but then Gimli will eventually die too!!!! one of Thundera Tiger's stories is about that...i don't know how many times i cried reading that!!!!! =(
well, enough rambling...POST SOON!!!!!! we cna't drawl out the angst too long!!!!!

Author's reply
Yes, the dear boy has been through a lot, but that just makes it more logical that he's not going to get over all this quickly or easily.
I would have felt better had the Valar allowed mortals to become immortal once they got to Valinor, but such was not the case. I read one story where Legolas was so far gone with sea longing that when Legolas and Gimli sailed West, Legolas died on the boat arid arrived in the Undying Lands dead. That was awful. I think the Thundera tiger story you are referring to is "Beyond This World". I must admit I actually love that story, and I cried, too, when I read it. It was very well written. It is on my favorites list. It had a happy ending, IMO, despite what happened.
I plan on posting Tuesday.

I read this last night, and unfortunately did not have time to review, but I want you to know that this is awesome! I am always interested in how authors depict a soul after death. I varies *a lot*. Those poor guys on the ground! And Legolas' poor subjects, and his poor family, and.... POOR x INFINITY TO THE TENTH POWER everybody!!!! (EXCEPT MORDRAUG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) As I read this chapter, I was...like...torn! I mean, I am *not* a person who wants to see Legolas die. Y' know, I'm just not. But I would really, *really* have liked him to get to see his naneth...poor guy. //Thranduil knew the instant his son’s spirit left his body.// Ouch. Oh. OUCH. Ah! BIG ouch! Again, very nice job with everyone's personal grief. Once again, the last paragraph where Thranduil cries out the words "little one", made me cry. I really love that part, because of the heartbreaking meaning of the words, and also the way it was only implied that Thranduil said it. And then right back to Legolas. Everything starts changing. That whole scene was so sad...oh my! I love it! And then he makes his choice, and says goodbye to his mother...so sweet. Very catchy last sentence. ;-) I can't wait to see everybody's reactions! And I imagine that there will still be more Legolas angst ahead? (If so, I'm gonna need a calculator for my "poors"!)
You are right; that would have been unbelievably cruel of you had ended the story and chapter 26!!! I too have read some stories where Legolas died and stayed dead; some were very well written, I admit, but I could never really like them. That's the thing I really love about writing. With words, you can make *anything* happen. First of all, that's just an awesome feeling. Second, I am one of those people who thinks that in the movies and even in books, Legolas doesn't get enough credit. It never stops annoying me, but because I can write, I can do anything I want and I can honor him to death! (And often I catch myself choosing to believe that these actually happened, but when he dies or something I'm just like: "Oh whatever, it's just fiction; that's not what really happened.") (!!!) Oh, my wonderful, overactive imagination!
Can't wait for more!
Author's reply
I'm so happy you liked this chapter. It is my favorite, so far anyway. The first sentence, "Legolas's spirit was soaring". came to me, and the rest just flowed into place. I knew, of course, that I was going to bring him back. I just wasn't sure what would do it. When I had Thranduil call Legolas Little One, I knew that was the answer. Legolas would somehow hear it, and that would be the trigger to his return.
I'm glad you liked the grief from everyone's POV. I always like to reveal how characters deal with a tragedy, whatever it might be. Death is so final (for us mortals anyway) that reaction to it is the most powerful emotion, IMO.
I would love for Legolas to have seen his mother before returning, but that would have been far worse, because she would have been so sad to see him go, even though she would want him to live. This way she never knew he was coming, and so didn't have to tell him goodbye. That would have made *me* cry.
The good thing about fanfic is you can write anything you want. You can follow canon or go AU. And, the fact that LOTR is fantasy means you can use magic or other special powers to twist the physical world around to suit yourself.
Legolas never got the credit he deserved, I agree. I had hoped that after the success of FOTR and the popularity of the character, Peter Jackson would have given Legolas a bigger part for the remaining two movies. I know they were all filmed at once, but the cast was called back several times for added scenes. Ah well, we writers can just fill in the parts we would have liked to see (or read), plus doing pre- (like this one) and post-LOTR stories.
I'd better end this, or it will be as long as one of the chapters. I just find it so easy to talk to you about everything.
The start of the aftermath is coming soon.

Thank you. This is one of my favorite chapters. It was a very tough choice for Legolas to make, and he didn't have long to mull over the consequences of each choice. I'm looking forward to finding out what your thoughts on Legolas's death are. I bet it's interesting.

Thranduil's sudden appearance took me by surprise, that was nice! I wasn't expecting him for a little while yet. //A myriad of confusing thoughts swirled through Mordraug’s mind, as he frantically began to calculate his options.// No! HE'S GOING TO KILL LEGOLAS!!! NOOOO!!!! (See??? This is what I mean by "merciless". No mercy for Legolas, and no mercy for me with your infuriatingly supurb cliffies!!!!) Wait a second. What would he gain by killing Legolas? *thinks about that until her head hurts* Unless he (1) Wants to see Legolas die and see Thranduil suffer for it, even if it's his last bit of pleasure or (2) He thinks Thranduil will give in in the face of losing his son. But even that's not bad enough for him, especially because Thranduil thinks (or knows) that he's going to lose his son anyway...so Mordraug must have something more diabolical in mind...I never had a head for these things.

*GASP* Hyperventilating, hyperventilating! Well, where does one start? The thought hadn't struck me as I read Legolas' "empahtic declaration", but when I read Mordraug's musings about whether or not Legolas was aware of his condition, I realized that Legolas' dialogue and tone kind of made him sound like a snobby, over-confident prince. That was well done! Did Legolas intend that? *Pride comes before a fall* How very true that is.
AHHHHHH!!! HE KNOWS!!!!! WHAT DO WE DO? WHAT DO WE DO? *smacks herself* *silly, you don't *do* anything! You wait for the merciless *author* to do something!* Poor, poor, Legolas. My POOR X 500 baby!

Author's reply
I hate to admit this, but I'm not really sure if Legolas meant to sound so snobby. On one hand, I think he did. He's not above using that to his advantage in certain situations But, on the other hand, being raised a prince has got to filter into his subconscious a bit, so that attitude comes out without thinking. He's much humbler than Thranduil, for sure, but he is also Thranduil's son. I hope that is a little clearer than mud.
