The Old Took's Faunts  by Kaylee Arafinwiel 18 Review(s)

Leap year children do get shortchanged, don't they?

Author Reply: They really do. Life won't get any easier for Hilly, I'm afraid, but at least his family loves him dearly. Thank you!

A beautiful way to remember Hildi.

Author Reply: Thank you! I think so, too.

A terrible loss, especially on his birthday!

Author Reply: Yes, it really was :(

What lovely stories. I greatly enjoyed reading about the small but precious gifts each child found, and chose to give away, and imagining how this family lived.

Author Reply: Thank you so much for your reviews, Shirebound. They made my day :) I'm so glad you've enjoyed these stories!

“Here!” he said brightly, holding it out to Gandalf. “Plant tree for Kings!”

Gandalf accepted the acorn with a grave nod. “Thank you, lad; I do believe I shall,” he said. “It will at least afford Gondor some beauty in her time of trouble.”

I love that. Such a generous lad, and Gandalf always knows just what to say.

Author Reply: Oh I'm glad you loved it! Brand really is a generous lad, isn't he? I find Gandalf hard to write usually, but his appearances in this story seemed to work for my Muse so I'm glad you like him :)

I'm sure you've seen it ages ago, but if you haven't, Dreamflower wrote a story inspired by this chapter, an encounter between Gandalf and young Faramir, with older Faramir telling Frodo the story. It's called "Conversation In The Sun" from Dreamflower's Mathoms III. It's one of the reasons I chose "The Old Took's Faunts" as one of my first stories to post here. :)

Do me a kindness and remove your brother from my beard

LOL! It's wonderful to imagine Gandalf's early meetings with these special lads, and a visit with his old friend Gerontius.

Author Reply: *giggles* Thank you! I loved writing that line. Gandalf is very important to Gerontius, and his lads are indeed very special. Hildifons will certainly be important to Gandalf later!
