Enter the Ranger  by Larner 207 Review(s)
LindeleaReviewed Chapter: Prologue on 5/26/2014
This shows great promise!

Earle actually disarmed one of the Twins, eh? Impressive.

I had to remind myself in the reading that the fruition of this hope will take another sixty years or so.

Author Reply: Those sixty years were ones of constant learning--and teaching, I suspect. And I wrote of Aragorn disarming one of the Twins in a drabble some years ago. I so strongly suspect that strategy and swordcraft were two of young Estel's best subjects during his years of tutelage under Elrond's people.

Hope that you continue to enjoy this.

I was always intrigued how the Dúnedain received their new leader. I´m curious if all were happy with a chieftain tuned by the elves. A great beginning I looking forward to read more. Thank you. Lai

Author Reply: There have so many stories of this time that I'd delayed presenting my own in detail until now. But it made sense to me that if the young Men who became Rangers of the North entered that brotherhood through training, that Aragorn would choose that route as well. And thank you, Lai!

Great start - I'm looking forward for more! :)

Author Reply: Well, the first three chapters are written, if I don't do one more between the next two to explore the reactions of the elders.

A new story! It should be interesting to see how the Dunedain receive their long last Chieftain. I'm sure Halbaleg will be happy to have someone else to look over the harvest reports (among the other advantages of having his Chieftain return). I wonder what they'll make of him. Obviously they'll have to accept him...eventually...
Anyway, I look forward to reading more!

Author Reply: I can't believe that another story is sneaking up on me again when I have so many lingering, unfinished. But one I just did as a challenge story on LJ simply needs to be placed in context, I find.

And, yes, they will be forced to accept him--eventually. Good to know you'll be enjoying this one!

I'm so pleased you're posting this here. Such a wonderful story, and I look forward to savoring it slowly.

Author Reply: Yes, and I need to start copying it to the other venues as well. Thanks so, Shirebound.

Oh, this holds great promise! I love the unheralded arrival of the Twins and the bombshell they drop... I can just imagine Habaleg staggering off to find his wife. What terrific news this will be. And this is almost beside the point, but a little detail stood out so well for me: that he uses a rock from Annúminas as a paperweight. Something about that made me smile and gave me a wistful feeling, all at the same time, as I pictured him perhaps picking up a rock as he patrolled, because it caught his fancy, and keeping it for however many years he's had it. Such are the flights of fancy that a good detail sends a reader's mind off on!

Author Reply: If Halbaleg believes that his parents' bouts of foresight are valid, I'd think that indeed a piece of stonework from the former capital of Arnor would hold special meaning, embodying both what Arnor once was and what it hopefully will be once more if this child truly embodies the Hope invested in his survival. And even now I suspect that the Twins would speak in code that word not come betimes to the Enemy. I only hope that I don't begin faltering in this tale as I seem to do lately.
